"We are not hopeless pushovers!" Anette gasped, looking back at Kalib. She was the very picture of mock-insulted, but with that darn smile hinting at the corners of her mouth. "I'll let you know that us Hufflepuffs have a proud history of being nice people... Of course you'll find those in every House that don't always belong 100%." With that last statement Anette looked at at Kalib once more with a smile and a knowing look in her eye.
Continuing, Anette looked back to the grass in front of her, but still wearing a small smile upon her face. "Maybe you're right, maybe I'm not your typical Hufflepuff, but I can still see why I was placed there... I'm relatively patient, I work hard at almost everything I do, I try not to judge people (I certainly don't have disputes with people often), and I'm very loyal to my friends... If I'm any more assertive when it comes to doing other things, well," Anette shrugged, "maybe it's just because I'm more comfortable with flirting than most other Hufflepuffs. But an exception or not, I am who I am." She looked back up at him, the look in her eyes expressing clearly how happy she was right now...
At his comment about her "competition", Anette glanced over to the blushing first year girl. To someone passing by, they might have sworn her simple brown eyes hardened for a moment, if only just a moment, before returning to their usual brightness. "I'm shaking in my boots," Anette grinned, simultaneously noticing that she was wearing not boots, but sneakers, but deciding not to correct the phrase. "You know, she's all... young, and ready for love... How can any pedophile resist?" Anette added with a wink up at Kalib. Eh, it might have been slightly uncalled for, but she could tease, couldn't she? After all, she was the exception to the Hufflepuffs. Anette could tease as much as she wanted...

“Yeah, well, for that exact same reason I’ve been placed in Slytherin. I’m cunning, I know how to get people to do my bidding, I can put on a happy front and take out my angers on others simply because I’m inherited the Slytherin rep. Yet, at the same time, I make friends with other Houses and I don’t duel with people in the corridors for no unexplained reason. Maybe uncalled for, but reasoned. It might even be that same thinking that makes me more of a Slytherin then you can ever know.” I’m a backstabbing, heartless Slytherin that is convinced he can change, all the while hearing people tell me I can’t. And Annette deserved him, did she?
Kalib couldn’t stop the thought that came next: How long is it, really boy, how long do you think you can go on doing this until you break her heart, just like all the others? Just like- No, he wouldn’t let that memory come back to him. No one ever needed to know about that. If he alone couldn’t handle rekindling the flame within his own mind no one else certainly needed to hear it. He quickly went about loosing that thought once more.
“Do you believe people can change?” he asked abruptly after the silence. She’d seen enough of him to know that sometimes he would randomly through out a question or to. He didn’t bother explaining how his thoughts had led them there – he just needed to know: did Annette believe people could change? She’d already told him that people could cover up their wrongdoings with good ones. Did she believe wicked people could change as well?

OOC: Sorry it took so long to post, I've had NO muse whatsoever for the last couple of days for Anette, so I've just been focusing on Lucius... BIC: Anette smiled, perhaps more to herself than to offer Kalib comfort... He couldn't very well see her face anyway, so it's not as if it mattered much. Though, whether it mattered or not, smile Anette did. All the traits that Kalib possessed that he considered Slytherin traits were many of the things she liked about him... Anette loved it when a guy was completely different than her, and Kalib definitely qualified as such. Listening intently to Kalib as he spoke, she was still surprised when she heard him ask, “Do you believe people can change?” . It seemed a bit random... but then again it didn't. Hadn't he just been talking about what he was like? It took her a moment to think of what to say, Anette not being the type of person to speak too rashly. She tended to just blurt out how she felt, but she was dually careful not to say something she might regret later. "Do I think people can change?" Anette repeated the question, speaking softly and slowly after her hesitation, "It's difficult to say... I absolutely believe that people can change when they have a need to or they truely want to. It's part of human nature, isn't it? Adaptation... But I also think no one else can make a person change, or force them to change." At this point Anette gave a little chuckle before continuing with, "Take your mum for example. Her telling you to do this and that won't make you change your habits. The only thing that would make you change would be you deciding to change. I doubt it would be easy, but if you were commited and you really wanted to, I know you could do it..."

OOC: Believe it or not, I can understand that.
That seemed an acceptable answer; he could take that. So, people could change. People could, if they really wanted to, they could make things better. Not just cover up their faults, but decide for themselves that they could and would make a better life for themselves. Yes, Kalib could definitely accept that for an answer, even if it was a bit hard to swallow. Could he change, and more importantly, did he want to?
Instantly his mind rattled off every little aspect of himself that he couldn’t stand, finding his faults and nothing more. But he tried to think better of it, pick out things that he liked about himself. The biggest thing he’d mulled over was that his intentions weren’t always perceived in his actions. That was definitely a problem, but Annette had told him he could change… No one could make him change; he had to want to do it before he would take anyone else’s advice on the matter.
Kalib found he had no answer for her, other then the saddening thought that it was probably time they start thinking about heading in. He didn’t know what time it was nor did he care particularly much, but a lot of the students that had been scattered across the grounds had vanished into the castle. He sighed into her hair, not really wanting for it to end. Still, they couldn’t just stay out here after hours.
“We should probably head in,” he finally muttered, still not wanting to, “Think you could allow me escort you back to the castle?” Kalib smiled weakly – goodbyes were drawing nearer, terribly sad goodbyes.
OOC: So I'm thinking we need to have Annette bust in on Kalib and Mariella sometime - in an abandoned corridor perhaps? - but anyways, what do you think? (PM me if it's easier).

Anette stared at the grass, her bright eyes calm and rather blank. They tended to look that say when she was deep in thought... Rather ironic, actually. Her mind working quite rapidly, while giving off the appearence that there wasn't a brain in her pretty little head... In class it was a bit different. She was never deep in thought in class, except when day dreaming. All school related information seemed to be right on the surface, easy enough to remember and find. On an almost equally ironic subject, Anette Baker with thinking about what Kalib was thinking about. She could never really tell what he was thinking. Guessing was easy enough, since the subject they had been speaking of usually hinted at it, but really knowing... Anette prided herself on being an excellent flirt, and, being such, had to have a pretty good understanding on the male mind. She had to be able to predict... And Kalib made it almost impossible. It was something she dearly loved about him, because he was a challenge to try and figure out. Brought back to reality, Anette nodded in agreement. "That's probably a good idea," She agreed, her voice still soft, but with a relatively bright tone, "and I'd love you to." Anette smiled at Kalib as she scooted forward a bit before standing up and turning around. She held both hands out to Kalib to help him up... OOC: Sorry it's crap today, lol... We can end this here if you'd like... I'm not sure how much more they can talk about on the way up to the castle. I'll pm you about finding Kalib/Mariella. :]
