“Finally,” Kalib sighed with exaggerated longing. Finally he was out of the castle and back out on the ground. The school had way too much “learning environment” for him. That and he didn’t want to run into his mother again. She kept pounding on him that he needed to do better in school, but like he cared. After Hogwarts he planned to do more then go off and become some lame-o teacher like his mother. Personally, he followed through with his father just a little bit more. An Auror, wouldn’t that be something? Of course, he knew that was the exact reason “Professor Hemlock” got on him, worried he would go off and get himself killed in battle.
Shoving his hands deep into his jean pocket (thank goodness they weren’t required to be in robes yet), Kalib set down along the grass ignoring the path completely and headed down towards the lake. Glancing up towards the sky, he sucked in the days rays feeling considerably good about himself. He couldn’t place why, but today was going to be a good day.
Continuing his walk, he heard the distinct sound of wings flapping. A grin spreading across his face, Kalib arched out his arm and allowed the massive black owl to land firmly upon it. “Hey there Knight,” he cooed to the bird. Knight gave a small hoot and ruffled his feathers. Kalib smiled and untied the small roll of parchment from his leg. After giving him a loving rub, Knight set off back into the light sky, sticking out like no other. Unrolling the small scroll, he read simply: Tonight, eleven. He gave an evil grin and stowed it in his pocket.
He walked on, the silent still figure with nothing but time.

Running out of the castle with a bright smile on her face, one would have hardly recognized Anette from the twitchy recluse that first walked into the castle. The difference? One knew no one inside the castle, while the other had just made a new friend at the start of the year feast. It was surprising how comforting meeting someone in a strange place could be.
Even so, it was still a remarkable change. As she walked down the hill towards the lake, Anette couldn't help but spot another lone figure walking towards the lake... He looked familiar, but it was hard to tell from this distance. Brushing her hair back with her hand and praying to God she didn't look like a dork in her flirty yellow dress and jeans, she changed her path slightly.
As she got closer to the boy, Anette was now sure that she'd seen him around before; it would be impossible to forget that face... Her stomach got flutters just glancing at him... He obviously wasn't in Hufflepuff, and she hadn't seen him at the Gryffindor table... There were only two choices to go.
Anette tried to make it look as if her coming into this boy's sight was a total accident, but she wasn't sure how convincing she was being. She look a deep breath and kept walking. Even though she meant no harm, Anette was certainly a flirt, and was usually not the one breaking out into a cold sweat around a member of the opposite sex. This time, it seems the tide had turned.
She broke into another smile. This boy would be fun...

Kalib strode down his path thought on the path per say with a grin on his face, already laughing at the prospect of those sorry little First Year’s faces when they woke up, boy they were in for a surprise. It had become apparent to him early on that it was customary to give the newbie’s a Slytherin welcome to those entering the dorm and rather then be bunched in with the wrong group, he’d made quick friends and was now in on it himself. Laughing heartedly, he continued his steady trail.
His walk was lazy and laid back, so much so that it was obvious to any one passing. And just as if she’d heard his thoughts, that girl walked on by. Involuntarily his face lit up into a rather cunning smile; come and get me, you know you want to. He was almost positive her thought process was going along the same lines.
Craftily, the Slytherin boy moved up into pace with her, casually commenting “Haven’t I seen you before?” He gave her a rather drawn out examination, noting rather happily she looked even more amazing up close. Resting back to her sideways gaze, he continued lazily “It’s Anne, isn’t it?” As an excuse to look her up and down once more, he added “Yes, Anne, I’m sure I’ve remember correctly.” His lips placed a careful smile.

As she kept walking, though now in pace with the boy, Anette grinned, turning her head only slightly to get a better look at him. She felt like she could have just melted into a puddle after he had smiled at her like that, but the sane part of her kept her head... though only slightly. Most guys didn't tend to find puddles that attractive.
Since her head was already turned slightly towards him, it wasn't hard to look him up and down. The trick was getting him to see her do it, but making it quick enough that it didn't seem like she was desperate... Though again, this guy was certainly different. She'd never gotten chills like this, and if she was being completely honest with herself, looking him up and down wasn't just her move in this game they had begun to play; she enjoyed looking at him. That much was obvious.
Looking forward again, towards the lake, Anette spoke, her voice conveying none of the insecurities or butterflies she was feeling, but simply a light, musical tone.
"Well, technically it's Anette... But it doesn't really matter what people call me, as long as it's close, you know? I'm usually not so generous to being called 'Sarah' or 'Beverly', so you're doing well so far," She joked, glancing at him with sparkle in her eye. Anette continued, grinning with a mischievous expression on her face, but looking ahead once more, "I've seen you around before, I'm sure, but I don't believe we've ever actually met... You could introduce yourself, if you'd like..."

Kalib found himself quite amused watching her, her gaze, trailing his every move… Surprisingly, he took it as quite flattering. Such a marvel taking interest in him… Not that she’d had much of a choice in the matter. From first seeing her across the Entrance Hall he’d decided he was going to take up the challenge in getting to know her whether she liked it or not. She was only making it easier on him.
He grinned. “So perhaps if I’d walked up mistaking you for another Hufflepuff beauty and called you by a false name, would I not be granted the pleasure of talking to you? Rejected back into the world of Slytherins?” He was all about playing hard to get.
When she proposed he introduce himself properly, his smile widened noticeably. “Well, hadn’t I better confirm I wasn’t going to be pushed away before giving out my name to you?” he asked, though obliging politely, he added, “Kalib Hemlock, 7th Year Slytherin.” He gave a mock little bow to her keeping in step with his wake.

Oh, he was good. It was such a relief to be flirting with someone who could actually keep up, if not surpass her at it...
"Oh, I don't know about rejecting you completely," Anette grinned, looking at the ground in front of her, "but you would have had to do some serious sucking up to make up for it. If I had just walked up to you and greeted you as 'Jasper', do you think you'd still be talking to me now?"
As Kalib bowed, Anette bit her lower lip to keep from giggling, and looked at him for a little too long before breaking eye contact again. He could interpret that as he wanted to...
"It's a pleasure to meet you Kalib," She smiled, "Slytherin or not." She considered holding out her hand to shake his, but decided against it. Too formal... Though it would be a good opportunity to touch him... No, focus! Focus! Instead, she brushed her hair back from her forehead with her hand, causing it to fall over her right shoulder and leaving her neck and bare shoulder in plain view... On accident, of course...
God Anette, you are such a little whore... Shut up, I am not...

“You can’t come up with anything more creative then ‘Jasper’?” he questioned, acting as though almost offended by her simple mind. Giving a quick grin, he watched her hand change course and dive into her hair. Keeping his eyes perfectly well behaved on her eyes. No need to offend her so quickly, no need to offend at all. Oh but she looked so inviting…
Kalib, another voice deep in the back of his mind responded sounding negative, you came here to ditch your girl craze, to not make yourself look like some guy that pounces on any girl he gets the chance to. Regrettably, he tried to heed to his own inner warning.
But of course, sometimes impulse ruled over the body…
Steadily and with hesitation he raised one hand and tucked back a stray hair she had missed, blowing every so into the light breeze. Smiling at his first touch, he waited to see how he would be received as he dropped his hand back to his side. “Your hair is quite fine when the sun hits it just right,” he complemented, watching the rays dance upon the strands.

Anette gave Kalib a mock-hurt look, still smiling and clearly not actually stung by his jibe. "I happen to like the name Jasper actually... I think it's manly..."
Kind of like 'Kalib' actually...
As he tucked the stray hair back into place, Anette thought her knees would give way. She certainly couldn't breathe, but she prayed her face was giving nothing away... And, of course, she started feeling a blush creep onto her face as she smiled, biting her lip once more as if to keep herself under control.
Figures...
"Thanks," She managed to say after a moment of struggling to find her voice. Conveniently, this response could be token two ways; for him fixing her hair or his touch. Or both.
"So, what are you doing out here on the grounds?" Anette asked. Her tone was polite, but laid-back; She hoped she wasn't coming across as too nosy. It was a wonder she could pull it off since Anette felt like she had a butterfly garden instead of a stomach; the only hint at her inner-turmoil was a slight breathlessness to her voice. She still couldn't believe he had noticed her in the Great Hall at the feast... Or was actually talking to her now. It felt like a dream...
But a very good one.

He could have listened to her talk all day, the voice to warm and welcoming. Honestly, it wasn’t fair to have her present her self so well. He wasn’t used to it. He always got his way, things away came to easily to him. Why was this so hard, yet delightfully easy all at one time? Not much of it made sense, if any at all.
“I just came outside to be outside,” he commented carelessly, “I can’t tell you how annoying it is to have a mother for a teacher. She’s always getting on my case about how ‘I need to do better in school’ and ‘have a lot going for me if I just really apply myself’ and all that crap. I’m all for supportive but when you’re feed it to you every day it get’s a bit irksome.”
Kalib was quite amazed how easily his words flowed. He normally didn’t open up like that, but he just felt like Anna really cared. Maybe that’s why he’d told her. Either way, he didn’t regret doing so. In fact, he was happy to have someone to vent to about his frustrations with his mother to be perfectly honest.

Anette nodded as Kalib spoke, watching him quite obviously now. He seemed to be more comfortable around her than he had before... Actually, it was more like they weren't sizing each other up so much anymore. She certainly wasn't deliberately provoking his male hormones on purpose at this point, and Kalib seemed to have stopped looking at her like a piece of meat... Though she couldn't say that she didn't like that kind of... bad-boy, forbidden attention...
Just give me the fruit and call me Eve...
"I can't say that I can completely relate," Anette said, hesitating to speak until it sounded like Kalib had finished, "since (thank God) I've never had to have a parent as one of my teachers, but I can imagine you don't take that too well... I know I wouldn't. If people try to get me to do stuff with that kind of talk, I'm much more likely to go around and do the exact opposite... And look at me; I'm in Hufflepuff. I'm not exactly a huge rebel, you know?"
Anette grinned, looking at Kalib once again. They were nearing the lake...

Kalib gave a small grin, allowing himself to give her what he tried furiously to tell himself would be a last look up and down. He just couldn’t seem to keep hold of himself when she so willing presented herself. Although, he had to admit: openly letting his guard down to speak freely of what really was on his mind, it was new to him. It felt like a mistake. Like he was letting himself become too attached to this girl, when he knew for certain the next one to walk right up to him was going to get the exact same reaction.
He would flirt with the girl, he would let her know that all he wanted was her. He would carefully let his gaze accidentally-on-purpose be caught as he looked at her, let her catch him watching her, let move closer so he could make a move… He did it so often, it was almost a natural habit for him regardless if he though the girl cute or not.
Do you know what a heartless fool you are? that same deep echoing voice called out from the depths of his mind. Do you realize you’re just egging this girl on, that she’ll only be your newest fling for a week max and then you’ll run off and ditch her for the next best thing? Do you know how incredibly heartless you’re being right now?
Yet, another voice responded, louder then the first: No, this time is different. This is why I came here, so I could let go of my old reputation and create something new, something better. I won’t break another girl’s heart so ruthlessly…
You really believe that, do you?
Something of a look of disgust came across his face momentarily. He felt like a monster. Resigning to let himself lower his guard even further, Kalib replaced his small frown with a smile. Anne was so pure, he couldn’t bare break her.
It was then that he realized just how long he’d been silent, rudely silent. They were almost at the lake now, running out of his made up path to follow. Almost without thinking, he reached for her hand and pulled her off towards the left gently. “Longer walk this way,” he said rather absentmindedly, which was true. This way when circling around the lake they’d end up headed back towards the castle and not away from it.
Kalib’s mind seemed to be working in slow motion. It was only as they made their way across the actual path winding about the waters that he realized he’d taken hold of Anne’s soft skinned hand. His eyes widened momentarily, wondering perhaps, if he should let go; and then he found he didn’t want to. He liked it, he liked holding her hand – it made him feel as if she were his, that he was one step closer to achieving his girlfriend-boyfriend role.
“I guess you wouldn’t be able to fully understand, no,” he spoke, finally answering to her words. “I guess I just find it a lot of pressure sometimes. Mother has never been to fond of me being placed into Slytherin, says is where’s the drop-outs go. Needless to say, I’ve never quite lived it down. ‘Proved her right’ as she puts it.” Kalib kept his gaze straight, letting Anne’s gentle warmth flow through his hand, almost wishing her innocence could cleanse him.

OOC: Crap, that last reply was brilliant! Just had to mention that before I replied, well done you. ;D
BIC:
Anette wasn't sure what to say in Kalib's silence. Not that she really minded it, since she had a true appreciation for it growing up with an older sister and much younger brother. She caught him looking at her again, but didn't call him on it. She liked it, being noticed by him. He would talk when he wanted to talk, and she definitely wasn't going to push him. Kalib did seem deep in thought when she glanced over, so Anette thought it was better to just keep quiet...
However, she became unnerved once she saw a look pass his face; a look that conveyed something of disgust. He smiled soon after, but she still had a moment of doubt.
Is he playing me? True, I don't really know him that well, and he is a Slytherin... But if he is, he's had plenty of chances... Who am I kidding, he will have plenty of chances too. It's not like I'm exactly going to run off and leave him alone by the lake. I wouldn't- I couldn't do that...
It obviously came as some surprise to Anette as Kalib took her hand, guiding her to the left. Her heart had already been beating at an irregular speed due to this continued presence, but with this action, it felt as if shock waves were flying up her arm. It wasn't magic; at least, not that kind of magic. It was that this boy, Kalib Hemlock, was holding her hand. He hadn't really seemed to realize what he had done yet, but it was only a matter of time...
Ah, there we go...
Anette glanced at Kalib at just the right moment to see his eyes widen for just a second. She wondered if he was regretting his decision, but as he hadn't let go yet, she figured he hadn't. Anette was positive that she didn't didn't want to let go. His hands were very masculine, larger than hers and noticeably stronger... It was comforting.
She wasn't exactly a damsel in distress, but Anette loved it when a guy had the possibility to be her knight. Obviously not the prissy, way-too-romantic type of knight, but the manly, take-charge kind of knight. Kalib seemed to have that self-assuredness about him that she loved, but he wasn't heartless. That was easy enough to see.
"Well, your mother's wrong then," Anette stated softly, "even if she is a teacher. You don't have to prove anything to anyone, only yourself. And if you're happy with yourself, than that's all anyone can ask of you, isn't it?" She gave his hand the the tiniest of squeezes; she wondered, even, if he could have felt it...
She was falling hard and fast.
OOC: Wow, I think I just joined the "Long-Post Club, lol...

OOC: Man, the longer the better! *Applauds long post* lol. We should create an official club membership registration….
She wasn’t angry at him, she didn’t reject him, she didn’t pull her hand away… All Kalib could seem to process was all the “she didn’t”s…. His heart lifted some, maybe he wasn’t that bad of a person after all. Perhaps he was just a regular guy with regular guy actions, wants. His spirits soared.
When Anne answered him (much sooner then he had to her earlier in his long silence) she seemed to understand his prolonged thought process, which gave him a satisfactory chill. He wasn’t used to letting girls get to know him so quickly, let alone at all, he was just the boy to snog over and then move on… But this was different.
The battle raged on:
And you think that just because this girl has no idea what you’ve done in the past, you think she’s going to open-armly take you and rid you of your sins? Hardly.
She certainly can’t erase them, no, but perhaps she can ease the pain…
Stop fooling yourself boy, you’re a low-life…
Kalib refused to let his emotions run haywire. He tried to focus just a little bit more, which needless to say, became quite easy when he felt the small squeeze on his hand. His mind raced into focus on Anne, her purity, her hand so gently held in his…
He wasn’t about to let her go, Kalib decided firmly, holding onto her just a little bit tighter.
“Anne,” he said quite suddenly, though his words seem exaggeratingly slow, “Do you think a person can right his wrong doings by correcting them with rights?” He wondered if that at all made sense, but his thought didn’t last long on it. He was holding her hand…

Anette walked in silence for a moment or two, not just basking in her situation (for the hundredth time, with glee each renewed time she thought about it), but thinking. Thinking about his question, thinking about an answer, thinking about why one would ask such a question. Likewise, it was certainly an interesting question to think about in general. "I would think," She began slowly, a few seconds after Kalib asked her, "that to right his or her wrongs, a person first has to genuinely regret his or her negative actions... If they have, then yeah. "I'd personally say that being genuinely sorry is enough to right the wrongs, but I can't hold a grudge to save my life, so I'm a little bias. I'm sure that a person could make themselves feel better by correcting their wrongs with rights, but they should also remember that the past is the past, and no one can change it. It's only the future we can change." Anette finished her short speech and took a deep breath. She liked to talk, sure, but it was a lot, even for her. Hopefully it made some bit of sense to Kalib, because it barely did to her... When put into a position that required a delicate and precise answer, Anette was hopeless; She had to just wing it when such occasions occurred, so wing it she did... OOC: Good night, I'm finally off to bed.

He listened to her, wondering if her response made him feel better or not. Was it possible to correct ones wrongs? It was the past after all, she had said, so maybe she would accept that part of him to, his not-so-good side, the side that made mistakes…. Just thinking about it made his head spin. Another time…the future…the thing he could change…
“That makes sense I suppose,” he agreed with a small nod, more so trying to convince himself then Anne. She’d never believe you if you told her, and even if she did, she’d ditch you in a heartbeat… He was so soiled, it just wasn’t fair. Why on earth had he been so stupid that night, why…
Involuntarily he felt his grip slowly becoming more firm around her hand, like if he just kept her around, maybe she could help him be better. Be a better person. He didn’t mean to, and was careful not to squish her hand as enough to hurt her, but her warmth…it was just so inviting.
His mind was being to be racked with as many possible subjects that he could fit into his impeccably small brain. And when this next thought occurred to him, he wondered just how to bring it up. He knew his consistent change in topic must be beginning to annoy her, but he couldn’t help it. There was a lot that he felt he needed to talk about, something Kalib had never quite experienced before.
“Anne, I was wondering…” He said quite slowly after a drug out silence, though comfortable, “You must know about it, they put it up on the messages boards yesterday…” It felt very non-Kalib-ish to be asking about it, but he wanted to regardless of the difficultly. He wanted to make sure no one asked, even if he were a few months early…
You stupid, stupid boy… What do you expect to get out of this?
Kalib wasn’t sure of what he wanted to get out of it, he just knew he was willing to take a chance to get it (even if it did indeed mean facing rejection):
“Do you think you’d consider accompanying me to the Christmas Ball?”
