"Yes!"
That one little word burst from her lips before she had even thought about the request. Not that it needed to be thought about. Anette couldn't have said no to Kalib... Even if she had been having doubts, all he would have needed to do was flash her another dazzling smile and it would have left her practically helpless against his will.
Anette could feel a much more obvious blush creeping onto her face, but didn't try to play it off as she had last time. He had been honest with her, so she might as well be honest with him. She as embarrassed, yes... Not so much about him asking her to the Christmas call, though that was certainly more thrilling than she could have hoped for, but because of her answer. She had just blurted it out, as if stating the answer to an obvious question... It hadn't sounded rude, just excited and eager, but Anette had wanted to come across as a little more mature than that...
Well, you're not, so he might as well see you like that...
"What I meant," Anette added slowly and carefully, an embarrassed smile joining her blush as she watched the ground before her, "was that I'd love to go to the Christmas Ball with you... If you're sure you won't get sick of me before than."
Something was definitely going on in Kalib's head... It wasn't hard to tell, at least for her. Anette was a very modest girl, but if there was one thing she was not modest about, it was her ability to read people. She couldn't tell what Kalib was thinking obviously, but something was certainly going on behind those dark eyes. He has secrets... There was no point in asking about them; he would tell her when, or if, he felt ready to.
Anette smiled involuntarily as she looked ahead. This was turning out to be a very surprising day. This morning, if someone had told her that later that day she'd be walking along, holding hands with a boy she had just met and feeling completely at ease with him, she would have laughed in their face. She was very comfortable around boys in general, but her flirtation always stopped before physical contact. Kalib was different though...
It sounded so corny, but it was completely true. He was just different; Anette could never predict what he might say next, and that was just thrilling. He could probably have any girl he wanted in this school, but he was spending his afternoon with her... That was just plain cool to think about...

Her response had thrown him some, almost as if he had expected to be turned down. What was causing all of the sudden insecurity? He refused to believe one single girl could have that much control over him. But maybe, it was true? Was he really falling for her? And undeniable yes resounded inside his mind, making his lips curves evermore upward.
Her answer had been so quick, so sudden – could she really be feeling the same way too? Yet, all at once, his confusion seemed to be taken over with absolute joy. He was finally letting go of his past – he could feel it – he would do it right this time, he wouldn’t break her. He couldn’t.
“I’m glad,” Kalib answered considerably sincere, noting with an odd surprise that he wasn’t trying to impress her anymore; he needn’t need to. Slowly he could feel walls being broken down, some he hadn’t even known he’d put up. It was an odd feeling, but a very good one.
He couldn’t help but glance at her sideways, watching the flush on her cheeks slowly die down. Of course, watching her rosy check led to watching her lips… Stop Kalib, stop. But he wasn’t wanting to just to say he had, he wanted to so that he could let her know…know what exactly? Do you know what trouble your getting yourself into right now? that awful echoing voice scowled at him, do you realize how hard it is going to be to leave her?
An angry voice erupted, shocking even himself: Who said anything about leaving?
This thought, more then anything, made him feel certain Kalib was going about it the right way. He was going to be good to Anne, he wanted to be good. This is why he had come here; this is why he’d been so eager for his mother to take the job…
He hadn’t realized it, but once again Kalib had fallen into another silence, not realizing it until he noticed the castle coming up into view. Had they really walked that far already? He glanced over his shoulder and sure enough, while he didn’t remember walking around it, he knew he had. They were almost back to where they had started, what felt like such a short time ago.
He didn’t want to have to leave her yet.

As she, like Kalib, noticed how far the two of them had been walking, Anette bit her lower lip in thought. This was going to be a problem... She didn't want to head inside
What to do?.. The last thing I want is to stop this, but he could be bored... And what would we do? I don't really want to walk around the lake again, and it's so nice out, it'd be a shame to go inside...
Moving her head only slightly, Anette glanced around at the grounds near the lake. She needed a place that was close, quiet, and felt right... Anette was the kind of girl that followed her instincts, and they hadn't led her astray so far. She spotted just such a place off to her left; literally at the edge of the lake, it was bright and grassy, with a steep drop off of perhaps a foot to the gently churning waters.
"Kalib," Anette asked, slowing their walk just incrementally, "how would you feel about sitting down in the grass with me? My feet are starting to hurt from all this walking..." She grinned broadly, trying to make it clear to Kalib that she was using this as an excuse to stay with him longer. Hoping he didn't mind the serene location, Anette was pleased to note that they were walking right towards it. It would be only too easy to suggest it if Kalib agreed...

What if all this were just a joke? What if everything, it was all meaningless because he was being played; he’d never been on the receiving end of it. He’d always been the one playing, never the one being played. What if perhaps, after all this, she would shout “April Fools” ever so rudely and leave him for good? What if-
“Kalib,” her voice seemed to pull him out of his deep pool of thoughts, “how would you feel about sitting down on the grass with me…” Her voice seemed quite distant – it took him a moment to process what was going on, although nothing was happening remotely fast. It seemed his brain was just slow on the up take.
When he finally gathered himself, Kalib allowed himself a grateful smile, “Sure, I’d like that.” And like it he would. As long as he didn’t have to leave just yet. He didn’t want to go inside, where so many teachers prowled, where the weight of being a “good little boy” tugged down his spirits and made him act so foolishly.
Now finding himself unsure of where exactly they would be sitting, Kalib allowed himself to be steered instead. It was an awkward feeling at first, allowing someone else to direct him, but the loss in power was worth it, he decided with a grin.

Openly gazing at Kalib, Anette was being more and more intrigued. Since they had met, he had shown a remarkable change in character towards her... It was clear he had a brain in his head. Kalib had effortlessly proven his ability to manipulate females; Anette had been, and still was, frequently dazzled by his charm. He hadn't taken advantage of that though. Instead, he had held her hand and chatted with her, both of them enjoying the occasional silence.
She just couldn't figure him out... Which, of course, added to the thrill and his own charm, but it was still something to think about. He had the abilities and the opportunities, but he hadn't used them on her... Though the same could have been said about her. Anette had used a few tricks on him in the beginning, and certainly knew enough about guys in general... She quickly blamed her inactivity in playing with Kalib on her being too distracted by his own tricks, but in reality, she knew better. Anette was giving him the same respect he was showing her. She wasn't about to ruin that, especially for a game.
"How's this then?" Anette gestured with a simple nod of her head to the spot she had previously scouted out. They had walked right up to it, so it was easy enough to pretend that she hadn't hand-picked it herself a few moments earlier.
It was just convenient, wasn't it? Yes, it certainly was...
Without really waiting for his answer, Anette flopped down into the grass with a mischievously sweet smile. This would have been a relatively harmless action...
If she still hadn't been holding Kalib's hand a the time.

OCC: *Laughs her head off* I particularly liked that last closing sentence. Kudos, kudos. ;D
Kalib was beginning to almost be fed up with himself for her, his silence intruded upon listening to her sweet voice. At the same time, he appreciated her gesture. She was letting him think; try to process things at his own rate. It was a lot different then being force-fed support. He actually had a say in the matter.
Of course, he’d been contempt in his silence, and then… “How’s this then?” He had scarcely looked up to glance at the spot when he felt his feet being pulled out beneath him and landed with a heavy thump on the grass. At first he wasn’t quite sure how that had happened, and then his grin turned quite wicked. “You little…”
He slipped his hand out from her, only to grab her wrist firmly all in the same motion.
Swinging himself onto that same arm, Kalib allowed himself to pin her down against the ground, his hair lazily askewing his vision. With his carefully placed smile he felt himself lowering automatically against her, an almost dangerously alluring presence floating about him. “You are by far thee most peculiar girl I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet…” Kalib couldn’t help himself, watching her eyes, watching her hair dancing against the breeze.
She certainly was the only one to ever be able to play his game; that was for sure.
Kalib could feel his heart racing, he could feel onlookers curiously noting the pair and then getting on with their day, he could feel her same desire, after all, she had been the one to pull him down here. Oddly, he was fine with it, and oddly enough…
His curiosity to see how he would be received seemed to wear him down brutally as he leaned into her, letting his lips ever so lightly brush against hers…
OOC: *Giggles furiously*

OOC: I'm glad you liked it, lol. ;]

...
Is he...?
Yes... I do believe he is...
Anette's brain seemed to be working in slow motion as she felt Kalib's lips brush against hers. It was such a mix of body language, but one that was extremely effective nonetheless; Kalib still had her pinned down and close against him, but the gentleness of his kiss... Well, that was in another league altogether. Anette found that she could barely breathe as her heart rate sped wildly, but she wasn't complaining...
If her mind had been working at normal speed (and perhaps if she wasn't caught breathless), Anette would have immediately deepened his kiss... However, her mind certainly was not working at it's normal speed. He had left her practically dumbstruck, but whether that was his goal or not remained to be seen. So, instead, Anette simply let Kalib kiss her, closing her eyes and basking in the feeling of his lips against hers as the butterflies in her stomach had a field day.
Wow...
Breaking off from his kiss, Anette grinned involuntarily as she gazed up at Kalib. She really hadn't wanted to stop kissing him, but smiling and kissing at the same time is a feat in itself, and one she hadn't quite mastered yet. He was just... amazing. Anette could tell her face was flushed, but she really didn't care at that point. Leaning forward slightly, she planted a lingering kiss on his lips then lay back down in the grass, a wide smile on her brightened face.
"You know you're amazing, don't you?"

She was giving into him; she was letting him kiss her soft, soft lips. He breathed in her wonderful scent and let the taste linger upon his lips. He wasn’t kissing her to add her to the list of his old girlfriends; he was kissing her to ask if she would be his present one. And maybe, perhaps, one he’d never let go of. It was all very confusing, making his mind spin…yet putting him calmly at ease…
She pulled back from him, making his lips almost burn from the emptiness there. But she smiled…she smiled just a brilliant smile, her happiness so vivid….He wanted to kiss her again…
As far as kissing goes, she’s pretty good, wouldn’t you say? Not as good as... Kalib couldn’t believe a negative thought would dare slip into his mind. Why, why would that deep resounding voice not leave him alone? You’re breaking her heart…she won’t ever get this again….
And that lingering kiss, he longed for more…
“You know you’re amazing, don’t you?” Amazing? Hardly. Far from it. But to hear her speak it, still….That same, heavy-set confusion engulfed him. But no, he wouldn’t let himself think about it; he would live in the moment, not dwell in the past.
Before he could ever remember deciding to do so, Kalib lowered once more and let his actions convey more then his silent words. I’m not amazing, I don’t deserve you. You’re perfection to a “t” and can’t let you go… He hadn’t realized just how deep in their kiss that he’d let himself go. Quickly making up his mind, Kalib broke apart from her gently – far enough to talk, to whisper, yet close enough to let the very words rolling from his tongue brush against her lips.
“Annette,” he said quietly, speaking her full name clearly for the first time, “I don’t want to let you go, not yet…” Not ever, but it felt to forward, “Is it too much to ask, if perhaps just maybe…” He let the pause draw itself out, watching her mesmerizing gaze, “Would you perhaps allow me to call you my girlfriend?” Because I’d love to be your boyfriend…
(OOC:) PERMISSION: While it seems absolutely ridiculous that in-character kissing could be considered power-play, I've seen people (on other sites) get in trouble for it as crazy as it seems. So, in response to that, I would just like to make it clear Annette has full permission in allowing small power-play with Kalib in the matter. Thank you for listening to my drawn-out and possibly unnecessary speech.

Anette was at a loss for words, something she was definitely not known for. Except around him, it seems... Her brain just had to catch up with the rest of her; she had been surprised and elated around Kalib all afternoon, but since he had kissed her, things just seemed to go slower. Of course, it didn't help her concentration when he had just been kissing her ever so sweetly... He was so close, and his lips were right there... just waiting for her... Then it seemed to finally sink in. It felt like ages to her, and perhaps to Kalib too, but in reality, it was more like a couple of seconds until Anette composed herself enough to speak. "Yes," She whispered, her voice slightly raspy, "Kalib, I'd love to be your girlfriend... But you need to promise me that we'll get to know each other better. I really don't want this to be a totally physical thing, you know? I mean, I'm completely for there being physical stuff- not bashing that at all-" Anette stammered near the end, a little more than flustered. Why did that boy have to be so darn hot... and close... and sweet... and really hot...But does he deserve what he'll have to face for this? Anette wondered silently. I can't imagine Bellatrix being too pleased to hear about a fellow Slytherin dating a Hufflepuff... Better than him dating a Gryffindor I'm sure, but still... It won't be pretty if it comes right down to it, and I don't want Kalib facing that without considering that part of the package..."Also, Kalib... Have you thought about what... What other people in your house might say about you dating me? I don't want to cause you trouble..." That's the last thing I want to do to you...OOC: Sorry it took so long for me to reply, I had to work again today, and then went to a Jason Brown concert in Adel with my friend... We just got back, so I thought I shouldn't be a dorkhead [hehe] any longer and get to posting. Oh, AND I had this great paragraph already written out, and I come home to find that my little brother deleted it. Thanks a ton Chase!

Kalib watched her carefully as she spoke, taking in every word as his brain finally started to pick up pace. He could actually take in what she was saying when she was saying it as opposed to registering it afterward. Surprisingly, his smile did not fade at her solemn words.
“Anne, first off I would never make you do something you didn’t want to.” As support for his words, he lifted himself some though he was still of course dangerously close. He couldn’t seem to take his eyes off of hers, they were so gorgeous. And he figured that compared to what he could be staring at, it was a loving motion nonetheless.
“Second,” Kalib continued fluently, “I will gladly listen to anything and everything you wish to share with me. I would only ever be honored if you would allow me to know you better, therefore rightfully titling me to be your boyfriend.” He silently thrilled at the word.
“And as for my House…” Momentarily he was forced to view some of his Housemates, wondering what they would say. Danna would certainly be crushed to know she’d been beaten out by a Hufflepuff. “Well, I can deal with Slytherins. After all, I wasn’t put there for nothing.” A small wicked grin flashed across his face. Anyone dare mess with him, well, they’d better learn real fast how to defend themselves. And if anyone mess with Annette…well, they’d better learn even faster.
He watched her comprehending gaze, still not believing she was his. “I can’t offer you more then that,” he concluded with a small smile.

Grinning that same wide grin she'd been donning all afternoon, Anette crinkled her nose at Kalib in a tease. He was such a surprising guy... Who could have guessed that this was intertwined with that hot and heavy attitude she'd first noticed? Again, she wasn't even close to complaining about the bad-boy side of Kalib. She loved that ever-dangerous side to him, but this new, gentlemanly side seemed to balance it out a bit more. It was still the risk that she loved, but with a safety net. "I don't need more than that.. more than you..." Anette was a little surprised at herself for just blurting it out. It was completely spontaneous, but it must have sounded so lame, so corny... And as much as she enjoyed romance in general, Anette hated sappy talk. Which was why she was so shocked to hear it spoken, not from the mouth of a love-struck actress in a movie, but from herself. It was a weird mix of emotions; a bit of disgust and giddiness. Trying to ignore her self-revulsion, Anette continued, still smiling up at that grin that took her breath away... "And as for the rest... I trusted you enough to pull you down here in the first place. It's not that I'm scared, I just know that there's tons more to you than what I've seen so far- Don't you dare be a perv about that!" Anette laughed, not sure if Kalib would even catch the unintentional innuendo, but tried to carry on. "Anyway, I just want to get to know you better... And you know little to nothing about me, so I don't want you to realize in a week that I'm a nut case and you don't want me anymore." She chuckled again. "And with your House... Just be careful. There's only one you and many more people who aren't you... Although if the ladies are anything like me, you could probably just give them that grin of yours and they'd fall right over... And if they tried anything, I'd probably have to kill them. Or severely hurt them. Your choice." Anette winked a chocolaty-brown eye at Kalib, only halfway joking, but trying not to let him see that. She might be a Hufflepuff, but she was the jealous type. Anette didn't get angry easily, but once she was, she was fierce... If any other girls tried something on Kalib, they would be in for a surprise... I can see the headlines now: Mild-Mannered Anette Baker Kills Fellow Student for Looking at Boyfriend...Edit OOC: Woah, didn't even see the plotting thing at this point. Worked out well though, didn't it?

“I don’t need anymore then that…any more then you…” He was surprised how such a small, small sentence could shake him so much. All at once he felt a deep burning desire, like he couldn’t believe she’d just told him that. It was possibly as close as you could get to say those three little words…those words he was too scared to say…those words that once he spoke, he always managed to turn right back around and break the girls heart… For a moment, a small pain ached deeply in his heart, nearly crushing his high spirits. But then Annette started talking again…his hazy gaze was focused back on her eyes…his ears, only hearing that soft voice…
He couldn’t help but chuckling – “Don’t you dare be a perv about that!” – and interrupted briefly “My, I am only human boy after all…can’t I have just a little bit of fun?” It had been Anne’s innocence speaking there, heeding him to be just as innocent as she. But you’re not boy, you’re not… How dare that echoing voice return while Kalib sat in pure bliss, you’re a dirty Slytherin…‘innocence’…ha…
When she had finished, Kalib had a small sense that Anne was envisioning all the horrible things she could do to girls that dared even look at Kalib wrong. That in it self made him smile. “Don’t go taking out all the girls in my Year, now, okay? You promise to keep them around and I’ll promise to not attack any guy that tries to talk to you.” He grinned – it might be a struggle for him to restrain.
Kalib had been well known – regrettably – at his old school for his bad temper and often landed himself in detention for staring a fight, magical and non-magical alike. Of course, he’d come here to stop that bad reputation… Of course, Anne very well may be worth it…
Kalib let out a low sigh and closed his eyes for a moment, just letting his mind relax. When he reopened them, his gaze was much calmer – he wasn’t allowing that voice to rule over him. But you know in a weeks time.. Kalib put an end to the thought. Letting another sigh out, he smiled apologetically, “I didn’t get you dirty, did I?” he asked with a grin. Pushing himself up and sitting to the side of her, Kalib assisted Anne in getting herself up next to him.
“You’re really much more then I deserve, you know that?” he asked, glancing at her sideways. He wasn’t about to discus his shameful past with her just yet, but he was interested in getting her talking again. He liked the way that her voice chilled him. Letting his comment pass without a response, he continued casually “So what’s your family like? You’ve already heard about mine…” A small etch of annoyance pushed into his tone. Dang mother…

"My, I am only human boy after all…can’t I have just a little bit of fun?” Anette giggled breathily at Kalib's comment... Yes, he was definitely a human boy... And, as her mum always told her, being like that was one of teenage boys most endearing qualities. Anette agreed, and wasn't so much innocence in human form as she was innocence with a twist; If flirtation had anything to prove on the matter, Anette could usually predict how the male mind worked, and therefore had that part of her with her mind in the gutter... She just usually chose not to unlock that certain door...
"I can't promise anything," Anette said with a smile, her brown eyes flashing wickedly, "I'll try not to kill them all... Will that work?" Obviously girls fought differently than guys... If two guys were having a fight, you could bet there'd be lots of noise, perhaps some punching, and definitely spells being thrown will-nilly. If Anette was in a fight... Well, things would be different... Or maybe not so different. If she got mad enough, there was no telling what she could do.
“I didn’t get you dirty, did I?” Anette grinned. She couldn't help herself, that darn door was open again. "No and yes," Anette answered with a semi-wicked grin, "There's not really any dirt or grass on me, but low and behold, I am still dirty." She had to laugh at herself. You are such a dork..., Anette thought to herself, rolling her eyes. He's gonna leave you immediately now that he's seen what a total loser you are...
Somehow, far from her thoughts, she heard Kalib talk. “You’re really much more then I deserve, you know that?” No, she really wasn't... She's just Anette Baker, the flirt, just... her... "I'm really nothing special," Anette mumbled darkly to herself, but continued on the answer his next question with a slightly brighter tone.
"Well, I'm American, if you hadn't noticed yet by the accent," She said playfully, a small grin playing upon her lips, "I have a mum and dad, a big sister, and a little brother. I should be the rebel child, being the second... And I guess you could say I am in my own way... My big sister, Joelle, is like, perfect; she gets straight As, all the boy love her, she's gorgeous, blonde, nice... It's hard to try and live up to that, you know? And my little brother Ray is just the sweetest thing, but gets away with everything he wants to. He's about 7 right now, so he's not ready for school yet, but Joelle just graduated..."
Anette had to pause at this point, a little breathless. She didn't usually talk this much, but it just seemed to be spilling out of her, Continuing, Anette tried not to overload Kalib with too much at once. She didn't want pity, but it was an important part of her life...
"Anyway, last year Dad got news that he was going to be transferred for his job. He's a banker you see, but they apparently needed to transfer him here, to London... We lived in North Carolina before, and I went to school on the opposite side of the country, so either way it was a huge change. We just moved this summer. Joelle came with us, to help us all adjust... Being so nice again, you see?" Anette added with a grimace. "So now that I'm at school on a new continent, Dad's at his job, Joelle's trying to land a job making robes, and Mum's at home taking care of Ray until he starts school himself."
Glancing at Kalib out of the corner of her eye, Anette tried to judge his reaction. It was a lot to take in, especially all at once... She blushed involuntarily. It was probably too much to tell him about the move right away. She purposely left out the parts about leaving her friends; if Anette had started to talk about them, she would have begun to cry, and that was a definite turn-off...

“‘Try not to,’” he scoffed playing, rolling his eyes. Although, if all he could promise was trying he couldn’t expect to just simply ‘not.’ Things didn’t really work that way in his books. There was always equal trade – it just so happened that he believed that only mattered on the outer view. On the inner view…well, let’s just say he always got a little bit more then the other. Kalib had a peculiar way of managing to manipulate people.
As she continued, he couldn’t help but smirking. “Dirty,” man, if she only knew what dirty really was…
And then Anne started up on a rather long-winded speech for lack of a better word, which he listened to rather willingly. He could not get over how her voice seemed to calm his mind and make his heart race all at once. It was definitely an interesting feeling, something – he was sure – he would always look forward to when talking to her.
She seemed to catch her breath halfway through and then began talking once more, allowing him further access into her family life. He vaguely wondered if he’d ever be able to meet any of whom she spoke of. Of course, the siblings sounded fine, and he could deal with her mom. Her dad on the other hand…it seemed that boyfriends and dads never got along. There was some unwritten rule about how the boyfriend was supposed to act all lovable trying to cover up his tough composure and flirt in what was supposed to be a sneaky manner; then, the dad would have to put up his hard front and tell the boyfriend what happened to the last boyfriend to walk through those doors, and of course, tell him he had a shotgun in the back room.
When Anne had finally allowed herself breath again, he noted casually “That must have been hard. On some level, I can relate to that. When Mom get her new job here we moved quite a bit away from where we used to. Needless to say,” he added with a charming smile, “I had a firm reputation down there, lots of friends, all the connections. And then I come here.” He waved his hand lazily at the grounds. “I’m just the new kid now, but I’ve found I’m quickly becoming popular.” He didn’t want to sound as though he was bragging, but it was true – he’d made more friends in a single week then he had in his entire life. He wasn’t so sure what was so amazing about him. Perhaps just something new to look at?
“Either way,” he continued, “I know moving can be hard. Leaving everything behind. It’s not easy.” He’d rattled it off as though it were nothing, though he began to wonder slightly if had shouldn’t have. Girls seemed to be more sensitive about that sort of stuff. Unsure how to cover his fault, he let the small silence fill.

"It was hard..." Anette stared at the ground solemnly as she twiddled her hand out in front of her. Just thinking about it again was hard. You didn't want a pity party, so get your act together! that voice in her head instructed forcefully, Yeah, it was upsetting, but you're not an emotional person, so don't act like it... Buck up a little! Anette's face broke into a small smile. Yay for strange voices in your head, eh? The barely-there smile already upon her face lit up a little bit more as she looked up at Kalib. Well of course this kid was popular... Just look at him. All the Slytherin girls were probably falling over left and right for him. Not that you can blame them, the little voice returned, you are. And with all of them before his feet, he chose you. Be happy.Even as she tried to control her thoughts, a little bit of envy cropped up there too. Boys would never be falling head of heels for her like that. She was pretty, not sexy. She was a good girl, and they wanted one they could fool around with. Anette would never give everything away just to keep a guy interested, and that's just not what popular guys wanted... At least the popular guys Anette was familiar with back home. But since when were guys different overseas? At least most guys... Kalib certainly was... "So," Anette asked after a short pause in conversation where she tried to wrangle her thoughts and emotions together, "am I still in the hot seat, or is it your turn to be interrogated?"
