Staring down at the scaly face of his capture Kappa, and it growled ferociously up at him. Smiling to himself, Hagrid couldn't help but snicker, "Ferocious little guy, ain't ya?" There was a large tank set up just outside of Hagrid's cabin, just large enough to hold a small pool of water, and the Kappa. Hagrid had made sure to fill the Kappa's hollow with water at the top of his head, so that he would be strong enough to move around and give the students a good look at him. The kappa had so far gotten used to Hagrid's presence, though it was obvious that he wasn't exactly happy with his surroundings. He had assigned the reading early on, so that the students would know at least a little bit about what the creature was, and how to deal with it. Hagrid had placed a number of large logs for the students to sit on in front of the tank in a half-moon shape, so that everyone would be able to get a good look. Hopefully the Slytherins would sit near the back, where they'd cause the least amount of trouble. At least if they were disruptive, they wouldn't be near enough to the cage to do anything stupid. Standing near it, Hagrid waved the students toward him and the logs, "Go ahead and take a seat, find a spot so's you can see 'im." Wiggling a finger toward the edge of the tank, he smiled again. "Cute little bugger." Some of the students glanced at him strangely, but Hagrid just smiled wider and raised his eyebrows, "Don't be shy, he's harmless, long as he stays in the tank."

Hagrid wasn’t always the best professor, but his lessons were at least always interesting, and it was obvious he liked what he did. Bella could respect that, even if she didn’t always like the creatures quite as much as he did sometimes. He’d been known to bring in some strange things before, some of them considerably hard to look at just because they were so nasty- or creepy-looking. Bella walked along the little dirt path leading to Hagrid’s cabin with the rest of her fellow Hufflepuffs but as they neared ranks started to file between them, those wishing to sit near the back beginning to fall behind. She glanced over her shoulder and then back at the nearing cabin. Hagrid had a tank out, and she could see a weird creature looming inside it. Apparently today was going to be one of those days where no one trusted the safety of what Hagrid was presenting them. “Oh for heaven’s sake,” she muttered, rolling her eyes. Bella straightened her posture and marched right down to the first log waiting for them, setting her bag down beside her and waving lightly in Hagrid’s direction. Crossing her leg over the other, Bella leaned forward with laced hands on her knee. “And what if it’s not in its tank?” she wondered aloud, earning a few frightened gasps from behind. Bella rolled her eyes again. Being Seventh Years hadn’t changed the maturity level of everyone, it seemed.
