ABOUT THE CHARACTER Name: Melissa (Mel) Reid Age: 15 Gender: Female Year: 5th Celebrity: Joanna ‘JoJo’ Levesque
Canon or Original? Original
Facial Properties: Melissa’s oval shaped face is draped by shoulder length brunette hair, highlighted with thin strands of blond. She always has her hair thrown up in a sloppy bun or ponytail unless she absolutely has to wear it down. Her gorgeous, sparkling light blue eyes contrast with her darker hair, and are usually the first thing a person notices when looking at her face. Above her eyes are dark, slightly bushier than she would prefer eyebrows that are partially covered by her long side bangs. Placed precisely in the middle of her face is her slightly pointed nose, and below that her thin, reddish- pink lips. As you will read later in the personality, Melissa is far from feminine and wears no make up or fancy hair accessories of any sort and probably never will. Physique: Mel is a bit on the thin side but is definitely not skinny, weighing around 100 pounds, a little less than the average weight of a teenage girl. She doesn’t usually eat much at meal time, but prefers to sneak smaller healthy snacks such as pears and apples back to the girls’ dormitory to eat later. Melissa is fairly muscular for a girl as well. Back before anyone could be sure if she was a real witch, her muggle school required the students to take fitness tests. She always got excellent in all of them and has maintained her strength since. She is also reasonably tall, around 5 feet and 3 inches and still growing.
Personality: Hyper, silly, loves to have fun. These three things best describe Melissa Reid. She is not exactly your average girl, though. She is not very feminine and could definitely be called a tom-boy. Trouble always seems to find her- or rather, she always finds trouble. She is daring and adventurous and doesn’t mind breaking a few school rules to toss a small prank onto her enemies. She has served a fair amount of time in detention during her time at Hogwarts, and there is a fair chance she has not written lines for the last time.
But, of course, her life isn’t all fun and games. She is serious about her schoolwork, and though she may not enjoy it, she forces herself to spend a little bit of each day studying for exams and such. Her mother, a witch who graduated from Hogwarts a long time ago, is especially strict about her studies because of Melissa’s constant desire to cause trouble. With her mother’s continuous threats to take away her owl so that she can’t message her friends during the summer if she doesn’t pass all her exams have kept Mel’s nose in her books. Mel is pretty good in most subjects except for Potions, Herbology, and Transfiguration. Her favorite subjects would be Charms and Defense Against the Dark Arts, the two subjects she is best at.
Melissa is a generally kind person as well as tomboyish. She is a bit too honest though and is disliked by many, but she is always there for people who need her help. She is very loyal and trustworthy to her friends, as she knows that she could always trust them back. Melissa hates snobby people and most Slytherins, all of whom she has disliked since day one at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Ever since Melissa was old enough to understand the game, she has loved Quidditch. Her five brothers always used to play it with her in her house’s backyard. Her favorite and best position is and always has been Chaser- she has excellent hand-eye coordination and has a very good aim. She hopes very much to make it on her house’s team someday. History: Melissa Reid was born to a magical mother and a squib father. She was the youngest of their children and the only girl. Both her mother and father worked almost all the time to support such a large family, so Mel was partially raised by her five older brothers [from youngest to oldest] John, George, Thomas, Nick, and Collin. Melissa spent her early days zooming around one half backyard on a toy broomstick while her brothers played Quidditch on the other half. She was fascinated by the ‘golden Snitch’, which was really just a muggle golf ball painted gold and charmed to fly around randomly. Little did she know that tragedy would strike soon. A week after Mel’s tenth birthday, her mother and father each went out to work like any other day. Melissa stayed home and played Quidditch with her brothers as usual. They played for hours, and still her parents didn’t return. All of Mel’s brothers grew increasingly worried as the time stretched on. Suddenly, their distraught looking mother apparated into the backyard. “Your father’s missing.” Melissa was too young to understand how bad this really was, especially with the rumors about You-Know-Who flying around. All the family could do was wait for the Ministry to find him. They didn’t have to wait long. 4 hours later, a Ministry auror apparated outside the house. They had found Mr. Reid’s body in a dark alley next to one of the entrances to the Ministry of Magic, dead. The Dark Mark was magically drawn in green on the ground next to him. For the next couple weeks the Reid household was a gloomy place. They had hosted a small funeral for Mr. Reid a week after he died with the rest of his more distant family. Melissa spent most of her time now [Nobody felt like playing Quidditch anymore] doodling in her diary. A year passed, and the family began to move on. Melissa turned 11 and, like her brothers before her, received her invitation to Hogwarts. At last light began to shine down upon the family. A week before the first term started, they all rushed to Diagon Alley to help Melissa buy her things. Melissa’s favorite store was Ollivander’s wand shop, where she purchased a 12 ½ inch birch wand with a female unicorn’s tail hair core.
September 1st came around soon. Melissa said her last goodbyes before loading onto the train with her snow white cat she named Snowbell. She made a few friends on the train ride as well as an enemy or two, all of which were Slytherins. The train ride seemed to drag on forever before it finally stopped at Hogsmeade station. The moment she stepped off the train and took her first glance up at Hogwart’s castle, she knew that it would become like a second home to her.
ABOUT YOU Name: Mel or Melissa Years of Experience: 1 Sample Post: This is from when she was a little girl, hope that’s OK. J
The game had been going on for hours strait. The blue skies were beginning to fade to dark gray- night was rapidly approaching. So where were her parents? They probably just got held up at work or something. Nothing to worry about. These thoughts flew through Melissa’s mind as she swooped downward on her Nimbus 75 that her mom had gotten her for her birthday to catch the soccer ball that she and her brothers were using as a Quaffle. Mel caught the ball a foot from the ground and tossed it at George, who was on her team. He caught it and threw it at a hovering laundry basket that was their substitute hoop. He missed by an inch and John, who was on the other team, got it. He tossed it to Collin [who was also on the other team], but at the last second Mel zoomed forward and grabbed it in midair. As she turned to take it back towards her team’s goal, Thomas, her team’s Seeker, gave a triumphant yell and held up the gold painted golf ball that was the Golden Snitch.
“Looks like we win!” Yelled George happily, sticking his tongue out at the angry looking John. Suddenly, there was a loud crack as their mother apparated in the middle of them. She wore a sad, tired expression on her face. Mel landed and hopped off her broom. Where was Dad?
“Your father’s missing.” Collin and George gasped, Thomas’s eyes widened worriedly, and a tear trickled down their mother’s cheek. Mel, who was only nine and didn’t realize the seriousness of the situation, said,”But he’ll come back, right? He probably just apparated to the wrong place.” Her mother managed a weak smile at Mel. “Of.. Of course he’ll come back.” Her tone, though Mel didn’t notice, was still full of worry and had not hint of reassurance at all.
She finally waved them all inside to wait for news on him from the Ministry. Melissa sat down at the table and played Tic-Tack-Toe with John. Four hours passed before there was a loud crack outside the front door. Before the person could knock, Mel’s mother had hurried over and opened it. “Hello there. I am an auror from the Ministry. You must be Lauren Reid.” Her mom nodded and offered the man a seat. He sat down and faced the anxious family. “We found your husband.” He said to Mrs. Reid, whose face brightened up hopefully. Her hopeful expression quickly changed to grief and disbelief at the man’s next words. “Well, we found his body. I’m sorry to tell you this, but he is dead.” Melissa’s mouth gaped open in disbelief. Surely this man was lying? The man got up and strode over to her mom. He leaned forward and whispered something quietly into her ear. Mel, who was sitting next to her, thought she has heard the words ‘Dark Mark’ and ‘He-Who-Must-Not-Be Named.’ Her mother’s eyes brimmed with tears. She wiped them away hastily and waved the man off, mumbling a goodbye before gathering up her skirt and stumbling up the stair to her room to weep.
It felt as if 50 dementors had suddenly taken over the house, sucking all the happiness out of the atmosphere and replacing it with sadness. Melissa felt small rivulets of tears roll down her cheeks. Collin came over to comfort her, but she shoved him away roughly before following her mom upstairs. Other: Mimbulus Mimbletonia
