How did you find us? I joined a few months ago, but I originally found the site through a Google search What about ISS inspired you to join? I really liked that the members were so active, and the storylines seemed promising Do you have any suggestions for us? Erm… Maybe standardize the way the characters’ year, House, Quidditch team position, etc. are displayed on each member’s account?

About the Character- -
Name: Theodore “Ted” Truman Tonks Age: 17 Gender: Male Year: 6th Face Claim: Alex Pettyfer
Canon or Original? Canon
Facial Properties: Ted has a squarish face that is typically clean-shaven, lending him a somewhat boyish appearance, though that has lessened in recent years. Atop his head is a mop of unruly blond hair that he sometimes doesn’t bother to comb, as it doesn’t seem to make much of a difference. Ted isn’t very fond of his nose, which he thinks is too large and rounded at the tip, and his ears stick out a bit more than he would like. He doesn’t mind the rest of his face, though. Set beneath his thin eyebrows are friendly gray-green eyes, and well-proportioned lips define his mouth. Ted possesses a rather warm smile, and he’s been told that he has a pleasant, mellow voice.
Physique: Ever since puberty hit, Ted has had a tall and skinny figure. He is able to eat quite a bit without gaining weight, although judging by his father’s belly, that metabolism of his isn’t going to last forever. Unfortunately, he doesn’t like to exercise. His skin is neither pale nor tan, falling somewhere in between. It is also no stranger to bruises, as Ted can be rather clumsy at times. Ted tends to forgo fashion for comfort because he doesn’t care too much about how others think of him in terms of his physical appearance. When he doesn’t have to wear his school robes, he dresses in the Muggle clothing to which he is accustomed.
Personality: Ted isn’t the most outgoing guy, but his friendly and easygoing nature allows most people to get along with him just fine. He is cheerful most of the time, and he definitely knows how to enjoy a good joke. He might be a little shy at first, especially with girls, but once he gets to know a person, he feels a lot more at ease and is able to be more sociable. Ted makes a very loyal and caring friend. He is compassionate and easy to talk to, and he accepts people for who they are. Another reason people tend to get along well with him is that he doesn’t judge people right off the bat; he likes to give them the benefit of the doubt until they act in a way that shows him they don’t deserve it. He doesn’t get angry easily, except when his friends or family are insulted. Ted is protective of those he cares about, and he would do just about anything for his family and close friends.
Ted keeps a positive but realistic outlook on life, maintaining a sensible kind of optimism. Due to the values instilled in him by his parents, Ted has a strong moral compass. Growing up in a loving, supportive family has given Ted the self-confidence to stick to his principles. He always tries to do what’s right, and one value that is very important to him is honesty. He absolutely hates lying and being lied to. This quality is not limited to interpersonal communication—he even dislikes the way tabloids overexaggerate everything almost to the point of dishonesty. He understands the need for small embellishments and white lies, but when it comes to important matters, he cannot tolerate lying.
Ted dislikes prejudice in all its forms. He doesn’t believe someone should be considered inferior based solely on their race, age, gender, religion, sexual preference, or any other category. As a Muggle-born, he’s had to face discrimination in the magical community from those who deem “pure blood” important. He thinks it is tremendously unfair for others to judge him that way, and he would much rather be treated harshly for something he’s actually done than for something he can’t control.
Ted is a tad forgetful and very messy. The two traits complement each other in an unfortunate manner. When he misplaces something (a rather common occurrence), he needs to rummage through his belongings, which multiplies the clutter, which makes it easier for him to lose things, and so on. At home, his bedroom could be considered a disaster area. Ted’s mother always takes the opportunity to clean it while Ted is away at Hogwarts, but when he comes home each year for the summer holiday, it inevitably returns to its cataclysmic state. At school, things are a little better, since Ted has been trying to keep his mess confined to his own area of the room to keep his roommates from complaining too much. Still, Ted’s belongings are typically strewn about as if the place had been attacked by a rampaging hippogriff with a grudge against him.
Ted isn’t the most brilliant pupil to have ever passed through Hogwarts’ doors, but he is by no means a poor student. He gets above-average marks in Charms and Transfiguration, and he also does quite well in Herbology and Care of Magical Creatures. Muggle Studies comes easily to him, of course, as he lived as a Muggle for the first eleven years of his life. One of his favorite classes is Defense Against the Dark Arts, and he seems to have some talent in it. His performance in Astronomy is satisfactory, but he doesn’t have a knack for Divination at all (nor, as far as he can tell, do most of his classmates). Unfortunately for Ted, he lacks the necessary precision to excel in Potions and Arithmancy, although he’s been able to scrape by so far. History of Magic and Ancient Runes are also difficult for him because he has no head for details. To keep from missing out on a class that might be useful or enjoyable, Ted has tried every class offered at Hogwarts, as permitted by his schedule. He only took Arithmancy for one year before it got too difficult, and he stopped taking Divination and Ancient Runes after two years of struggling through them. Ted tries to keep on top of his schoolwork, but with his less-than-perfect memory, he will occasionally forget to do an assignment or misplace his homework.

History: Theodore Tonks was the firstborn child of Thaddeus and Eileen Tonks. He had a normal Muggle upbringing in a quiet little suburb in southern England. Feeling that Theodore was too serious a name for their cheerful son, his parents took to calling him Teddy in his youth (his mother never stopped). Teddy was an adorable, chubby little boy who learned everything early: talking, walking, reading, using the bathroom… He loved to explore, and his parents would often find him in the strangest places. The young boy grew up well cared for, and he was only the tiniest bit spoiled by parents who were delighted by their first child.
Teddy was five years old when his little sister Tabitha was born. As a baby, Tabitha’s cries sounded like the mews of a kitten, so she became affectionately known as Tabby. At first, Teddy wasn’t sure what to make of the new addition to his family, but after spending some time with his new baby sister, he quickly grew fond of her and enthusiastically took on the role of big brother. Tabby became rather attached to Teddy as well, and as soon as she learned to walk, she began following him around wherever he went. Once, when she was only two years old and still a bit unsteady on her feet, Tabby bumped into a small table while following Teddy into the kitchen, causing the vase on top of it to fall. Alarmed, seven-year-old Teddy reached out for it and missed… but the vase never landed on Tabby’s head. It levitated briefly, long enough for Teddy to grab it and get it away from his sister. He had unknowingly just displayed his first signs of magic. He told his parents what happened, but like most Muggles, they explained away this and other similar incidents that would occur in the next few years, never suspecting that their son had any real supernatural abilities.
The summer before Ted turned twelve, a staff member of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry arrived on the Tonks’ doorstep, school acceptance letter in hand. He explained that Ted was actually a young wizard with magical abilities, and that this school would be able to help him master the skills necessary to use them. At first, Ted’s parents were unsure whether they should believe the words of a complete stranger, but as he continued to explain the situation, they realized that all those odd little incidents they’d never thought too hard about finally made sense. They were very confused and reluctant about letting him go to a strange school they’d never heard of (for wizards, no less!), but they decided to give it a chance because they didn’t want to deny their son an important aspect of his education. Before long, Ted was taking his first trip to Diagon Alley with his parents and sister to buy his school supplies for Hogwarts. There, after seeing all the fantastic people and things, both Ted and Tabitha became fascinated with the magical community. Seeing how much their son wanted to be a part of that community, Ted’s parents let go of their hesitation and decided to support him in his magical endeavors. That day, Ted received his first wand, which was made of ivy and contained a unicorn hair core. As a going-away present, his parents also bought him his first pet, a cat named Marbles, to accompany him to Hogwarts.
Ted’s first year at Hogwarts was an eye-opening introduction to the world of magic. He saw and experienced a multitude of wondrous things at his new school, and he had a great time discovering what he could do with his magic. He spent a lot of his spare time writing letters to six-year-old Tabby, who was extremely curious about the world her brother had stepped into. His letters were filled with stories about all the amazing things he’d seen, and his sister was always waiting for the next one to come. On the darker side of Ted’s new life as a wizard, some students, mostly “pureblood” Slytherins, ridiculed him for coming from a completely Muggle background. He was puzzled the very first time someone referred to him as a “Mudblood,” but he soon came to realize just how offensive that term was. Discrimination against him usually took place in the form of taunts or indifference, though there were a few incidents that were quite a bit more serious. Thankfully, not everyone at Hogwarts treated him that way, and Ted made friends in several of the Houses early in his Hogwarts career.
Ted is extremely grateful to his parents for allowing him to pursue his magical education at Hogwarts. Although they’re often quite bewildered by the wizarding world, they’ve never treated him like a freak. Now finishing his sixth year at Hogwarts, Ted is still close to his sister and writes to her often. Tabitha was disappointed when her eleventh year passed and she didn’t turn out to be a witch as well, but she remains mollified by her ability to live vicariously through what her brother tells her. His family’s acceptance of his identity as a wizard has been an important influence on his views on intolerance and his reluctance to judge people before getting to know them.

Stepping out of the shadows cast by the castle wall, Lucius emerged into the sunlight, shielding his eyes with his hand. The sun was almost unbearably bright today, due to the lack of clouds. He allowed his eyes a few moments to adjust. Taking in the scene before him, he realized that many other students had apparently decided to spend the day outside as well. Some of the younger students were running around on the grass with their friends, and others were studying on the nearby benches. All in all, the atmosphere should have been quite pleasant and calming. However, in contrast to the relaxing surroundings, Lucius’s whole body felt taut, as if it were wound up too tight. After his classes had ended for the day, Lucius had intended to go to the Slytherin common room to begin a long afternoon of studying. But after rounding a corner and catching a glimpse of Narcissa Black’s long blonde hair down the hallway, he’d found himself turning around and heading the opposite direction. His bid to avoid coming into contact with the girl had led to this excursion outside. Narcissa. Lately, the mere thought of her tended to put him on edge. Her and… Darley. He was sick of seeing the two of them parade their relationship in front of his face. It was ridiculous, and he felt like an utter fool for being bothered by it, but there it was. What was happening to him? He wasn’t some lovesick fool who couldn’t do anything but whine about how much he needed her and couldn’t stand the thought of living without her. He understood why he was attracted to her—she was beautiful, engaging, and confident, and her pureblood status had certainly helped to draw his attention. But why the attraction had endured and intensified to this level was a mystery to him. In all his years at Hogwarts, no girl had ever before been quite this difficult to deal with. Narcissa’s volatile temperament left him bewildered most of the time, and he absolutely hated being confused. He wasn’t used to being out of control of situations, as happened so often with her. And as if that wasn’t enough, he found himself looking at and thinking of her more affectionately and much more often than he ever had with any other girl. Even out here, thoughts of Narcissa continued to drift into his mind. A group of Hufflepuff girls behind him had been chattering incessantly since the moment he stepped foot out of the castle, and the noise was beginning to grate on his ears. Irritated, Lucius turned to glare at the girls, who immediately huddled closer together and lowered their voices.
The temperature was a little warmer than he would have preferred, so he cast his gaze over the grounds in search of someplace with shade. A lone willow tree standing a good distance away from the masses of people milling about looked promising. Green grass rustled under Lucius’s feet as he made his way toward the large tree. He wanted to take some time to clear his head. As he approached the base of the willow and dropped his bag heavily onto the ground, his eyes caught a sudden movement to his left. A dark-haired boy was sitting a short distance away, about a quarter of the way around the tree. Lucius almost picked up his bag again and left, but when he saw who it was, he changed his mind and lay down on the grass. It was just Severus Snape, bookish as always. Lucius had come out here to be alone, but Severus wouldn’t bother him. Awkward by nature, the dark-haired boy normally didn’t initiate social interactions with other people, preferring to wait until they spoke to him. Oddly, Lucius had come to develop a sort of friendship with Severus, despite the fact that the other boy didn’t belong to any respectable pureblood family that he had ever heard of. Severus’s lower social status lightened the usual pressure Lucius felt with other Slytherins to present himself as a flawless representative of the Malfoy family. Additionally, Severus had a refreshingly disturbing tendency to drop pretenses, and conversations with him didn’t annoy Lucius as so many others did. In more recent years, Lucius had been able to talk more freely with Severus than with anyone else, and no one else probably knew as much about his mind as Severus did. Lucius reclined with one arm behind his head, letting the coolness of the grass underneath him seep through the fabric of his robes. The tension that had pervaded his body since the moment he’d seen Narcissa in the corridors began to dissipate. Originally, he had intended to spend the rest of the day studying, but he no longer felt the same sense of urgency to begin his schoolwork that Severus obviously had. He covered his eyes with his free arm before drawling lazily, “Studying again, Severus?”
