"A new begining..."
Marie had woken up on the Saturday rather late. She was making up for all the last sleep she had gotten lately from the late nights she spent reading and generally having Insomnia. She had gotten a good twelve hours sleep that night, and hadn't woken up until ten thirty am. In fact, when she got down to breakfast at eleven there was very few people on the tables - most of the teachers had even gone she noticed. Before coming up to the Great Hall Marie had checked the weather. For a English winter day it wasn't to bad. Cold and grey, yes, but there was no rain, and the day was light. Because of this she dressed in her jeans and a plain white top, with her black fitted jumper over the top, equipped with ankle high trainers and her wand in her pocket. It being winter now she practically lived in her black jumper, spending her weekends in it and her weekdays having it washed. She did have plenty of jumpers, the green and sliver one her mother had got her from Diagon alley, and the other muggle one she got from her cousin, with some logo on it she didn't understand - "Punk Rock 4 Ever". She didn't wear them much, as the plain black one was her favorite. With all her hatred for muggle everything, she still didn't seem to mind their clothing, and regularly wandered around Hogwarts on the weekends and afternoons in it.
This weekend she had chosen to come to the lake, bringing with her the book they were using in Charms (her easiest class) to read up on some of the Charms and Spells they would be practicing later on in the syllabus. She read as she walked, occasionally taking out her wand and muttering the spells when waving the wand in the directions the book was telling her to; although rarely there was any result. She did manage to make a near by stone move out of her way a few inches with the Locomotion Charm. Looking of for a moment Marie spotted the large Oak tree that grew near the edge of the lake. Closing her book for a moment she walked towards it, before sitting down at the base of the tree, leaning her back against it and looking out over the lake, wandering what the giant squid was doing and what else lay in the depths of the lake. She remembered her crossing of the lake at the beginning of her first year, as she did every time she came out here. She looked up to the sky, the grey clouds threatening to rain but holding back.
Marie stretched her legs out in front of her and rested her book on her lap, opening it once again to study some of the newest Charms she would have to study for her Charms O.W.L exam. Reducto was the next one - This spell is used to destroy any none-living solid object. It results in the object exploding into many pieces, although the exact number of pieces depends on the size and volume of the object. Marie smiled to herself as she prepared to practice the spell. It was a good one, something useful to her everyday life. She picked a medium sized rock and pointed her wand at it. She glance at the book again to make sure she had gotten the instructions right and looked back at the rock. Up, right, down, circled and flick - smoothly she repeated in her head. Following the instructions Marie muttered Reducto and smiled with satisfaction as the rock split into six pieces. Not perfect, it should have split into at least twenty pieces if she had done it properly, but good enough for a first try.

Mark had been awake for maybe fourty five minutes or so, and was already lacking something to do. He scurried outside, hugging himself and shivering. He got cold extremely easily, and always came prepared. He brought out a wool scarf, decorated in Slytherin colors, and draped it around his neck with hopes of keeping warm. He meandered around trees, and rocks, and other little students, stopping to wave at a couple. He rolled his eyes at a group of girls, looking a little younger then he, that were walking about giggling about unicorns or something of the sort. Mark really had no clue where he was walking, but he would figure out when he got there.
He picked up his pace to a jog, a bad attempt to warm himself up. He turned a corner, nearly smacking himself into a relatively large tree, by the lake. He jogged forward, tightening his scarf which had become rather loose. The green fringe at the bottom tickling his nose as he threw the fabric over his shoulder again. He jogged forward and then came to another halt. Back at the tree, he thought to himself, I could swear I saw some blond hair beneath it.. He scratched his head, trying to recall if it had actually been a person that he had seen. He turned himself back around, and eyed the large tree up and down.
He shook his head jokingly and started "tsk tsk-ing" at the figure under the tree. He was overcome with joy to spot a good friend of his, Marie. He began speed walking over towards her, then slowed his pace when he reached the giant tree. He looked down at her, rocking back and forth on his heels. He shook his head in disbelief as he sat down beside her. He took off his scarf and half handed, half threw it at her as he looked at her outfit. "How are you not freezing out here?" He was strictly amazed that she could wear something like that and not be dieing of cold. Either that, or he just naturaly got more cold easily. "So what are you reading?" He said as he took the charms book and began reading it to himself. "Trying to blow something up, eh?"

Marie heard him coming before she saw him appear around the tree. Mark was a good friend, so she didn't move as he sad down next to her, but merely smiled with an honest warmth and a happy-to-see-you face. She laughed when he threw his scarf at her, taking it gladly and wrapping it around her neck. She untucked the hair which had gotten caught in it and pushed it behind the scarf, and her ears, before half hugging the boy in welcome. She didn't say hi or anything as silly as that, for it was not needed. She knew who he was, and didn't care much for such introductions - they weren't needed between such good mates. "How are you not freezing out here?" To be honest, she was slightly cold, but her jumper was warmer than obvious. she smiled again and replied, mock seniority in her tone, "Well, for your information, this jumper happens to much more than meets the eye." and she hugged it as she spoke, before shoving her arm in front of him. "Here, feel. It's very soft" and it was, soft and thick - perfect for days like this.
When he took her book from her lap she watched it leave with a slight sense of protectiveness. Her books were important to her, and although she new Mark would do nothing to them she still didn't like to let them into someone else's hands. Still, she did nothing to stop him. Instead she leaned against his shoulder as he read the book, laughing when he spoke. "Well," Marie pointed the the six small pieces of rock which had previously been just the one rock, "They used to be a whole rock." She spoke with a air of satisfaction and pride in her work, knowing that for a first try six pieces was pretty impressive.
She brought her legs up and crossed them underneath herself, as they make you do in pre-magic-school, and took out her wand. "Watch" She ordered, much like a young child trying to get the attention of a parent, but with more authority. She repeated the instructions, Up, right, down, circled and flick - smoothly, although more swiftly, and muttered the Charm under her breath - "Reducto". The rock closest to them exploded into a decent amount of pieces, better than last time, with more piece that she could be bother to count. The explosion was rather large and the pieces landed with a satisfactory thud. Marie looked at Mark and smile with a proud childish smile. OOC - I don't think ''protectiveness'' is a word.. And I don't thing ''pre-magic-school'' exists .. XD

He returned her half hug with a full one. After all, he did fancy her. Seize the oppertunity, you know? Mark poked the sleeve of the jumper. It was soft, though he wondered how she still wasn't cold. "So how are you enjoying your fifth year?" He asked, not entirely intreagued to know, jsut needed something to say to her. "Make any good mates, or enemies, for that matter?" He knew he was asking such stupid questions, even he rolled his eyes at his lack of teh ability to stir up good conversations. He flicked a strand of her hair that had been tickling his nose, off his shoulder, and returned her book to it's home position of sitting on Marie's lap. He looked her straight in the eye. "Have you ever wondered if any of your 'friends' secretly hate you and are only 'friends' with you to boost them up?" Another long thought out, and ackward question. Eh, she hadn't turned on him for asking stupid questions for years, so why should she now?
He watched her as she impressively shattered one whole rock into pieces. What a talented person.. Mark chuckled as he ducked from the pieces of rock that were raining down upon him, and clapped with a nod of approval. "Very well done," he said with a smile. It was quite rare that he was ever as nice to anyone else as he was towards Marie. Maybe it was because he liked her quite a lot. Either way, he drew his own wand and aimed it at another rock as he shouted "Reducto!" The rock shattered into a fair ammount of pieces, but only a little more then Marie's rock. He nodded approval to himself, and gegstured to the rock. "But that is how the pros do it." He was obviously being sarcastic, as he was far from a pro, and barely tapped Marie's spell.
Mark had been wearing two jackets to fight the war against the cold, but it seemed to be warming up a bit. He took on of the coats up and balled it up into a pillow. He placed it beneath his head, and layed down on his back. He picked at the grass for a bit, and stared down into the lake. He wondered if Marie knew that he fancied her. Even if she did, that wouldn't bother him. He shoved his wand back into his pocket, as a rush of many thoughts flooded over him. He could feel his face getting red, as it always did when he thought to hard about something. He picked some more grass, like a bored child would do. He took his gaxe off the lake and looked back up at Marie. "You can keep that if you want," he gestured to the scarf, his smile returning to his face, "I've got tons more.."
*O.O.C: eh, there is now a word called protectiveness, and there is now a pre magic school. I have declared it. xD*

"So how are you enjoying your fifth year?" She smiled and thought about it. She knew it was just a conversation starter question, but she decided to reply anyway. She listened to him continue the question onto friends and enemies, and decided to give him the l o n g list of new friends she had made - not the sarcasm. "Umm.. well, in the half of the term that I have been at Hogwarts for this year I have managed to make one new friend, which I find as quite an achievement" and she did find it as an achievement - Marie wasn't renowned for making new friends, just new acquaintances. However, she dropped the subject, not bothering to go into further details about it because she didn't feel the need to. I was just a started topic, nothing to be that keen on. She waited for Mark to say something else, as she knew he would, and he didn't let her down - although what he said did surprise her a bit.
"Have you ever wondered if any of your 'friends' secretly hate you and are only 'friends' with you to boost them up?" Hummm.. an odd question again. He was always coming out with odd questions, and Marie didn't mind. She turned to face him and laughed, looking straight into his eyes. "You're not trying to hint something there are you?" Her eyes darted around his face with false worry, given away by the smile that still plagued her face. She didn't really reply to the question, although the answer would have been no anyway - who would want to use her to boost them selves up? She would have been a bad choice. She added, in a more serious tone now, "Why? Do you suspect someone is using you?".
She smiled a satisfactory smile as he congratulated her on her charm, and she oohed and awed at his attempt of the charm. It was better than her, but that would have to be suspected, seeing as he already learned the charm for his O.W.Ls last year. "But that is how the pros do it." She laughed and poked him again. "Yeah yeah, show-off" she teased. Marie watched him lay down and she mimicked his moves (although she didn't take off her jumper - she wasn't that warm), laying down and leaning against the tree, her Charms book left forgotten on her lap. "You can keep that if you want," For a moment Marie was unsure of what he was talking about, she had forgotten the scarf she was wearing had been given to her only a short time ago by Mark, "I've got tons more..", but on his gesture she remembered and smiled a warm smile. "Well, I wasn't planing on giving you it back anyway" she teased.

He shook his head rapidly as she asked if he had feelings that somebody was using him. Of course he didn't, but hey, you gotta say what you gotta say. "But hey, one new friend?" He questioned, genuinely surprised. "That's better then I do in a year!" He let a smile creep across his face. He was kidding, of course, but again, was lacking any other words to say. He lifted his head and stared up, and around at every object there. There was another very large tree (though not as large as the one they were sitting under), two smaller trees, one more rock to explode (should probably just let this one live, eh?), and lots and lots of water in front of them. He lifted his wrist, and looked at a non-existent watch. "Oh yeah, do you have the time?" Of course, it didn't matter what time it was, he had nowhere to be that day. He figured it would just be better to make it look like he was doing something important.
He waved a bug away from his face as he turned back to face Marie, standing up with a jump. He outstretched his arm and waved it in Marie's face. "Come on, get up." He said in a matter-of-fact tone. "Too many bugs out here." Well, in truth, he had only seen one of the little buggers but that was enough for him. He had like, a phobia or something. He pointed over to a slightly smaller, but still large tree, that wasn't facing the sun that had just now decided to come out and sayhello. "We're going to that tree over there," he said as if he were a tour guide. Or maybe he just naturally liked to have things his way.. Eh, whatever the matter, they were going to the other tree.
Mark hesitated for a few seconds before walking over the the large tree. Once he got there he plopped himself down in the shadiest spot and beckoned for Marie to hurry up and come over there. "Hey!" He called over before she had even approached the tree. "I plan on going to the common room to sit in an actual chair in a few minutes. Now are you gonna come, or be a loser and sit on an itchy tree?" He said, teasingly of course. Yes, he thought to himself, a chair sounded nice right about now. Plus, the Slytherin common room was much prettier then the lake. He wasn't a big nature fan, if you hadn't guessed.
*O.O.C: mmk, so yea, there's really nothing to do out by the lake, so if you wanna make a new thread in the common room, or if you want me to, then that's fine... Or if you just don't wanna have them talk anymore and just not make another thread, that's cool too. It's up to you.*

Marie looked at Mark, a bit of faux hurt in her eyes. She looked at him and gasped, moving away slightly with her body. "But hey, one new friend?" He sounded surprised, like she couldn't make friends and was a loner all the time. She ignored that fact that that was actually quite true. Instead she noted the joking tone in his voice as he spoke again, "That's better then I do in a year!", and she kept the shocked and hurt expression on her face - over exagerating it to make it obvious that she was just kidding around, although she did feel a bit deflated by the way he had reacted to her news. He wasn't meant to bring up the fact that she had bad social skills - that wasn't what a mate did. But she didn't show that; much. Her eyes always betrayed her feelings, for now they were slightly more watery than usual, though it took an expert eye too notice the difference, and only her long term mates could tell. She was unsure as of yet whether Mark was one of these people. She pushed him on the arm lightly, and spoke in a hey-watch-it tone, "Hey! Watch the tone! You sound a little too surprised at that news - I'm not that bad at making mates!" But they both knew that was a lie, Marie especially.
But she let it drop, and before she knew it she was being waved at and had Mark in front of her pointing at a tree near them, ranting about bugs. Marie hadn't really noticed the bugs, but she didn't like them so just the though of them made her jump up and brush down her clothes, wiping down the back of her jeans rid of grass, dead leaves and the imaginary bugs and creepy crawlies that could be all over her, in a frantic manner. She was distracted by Mark before she could start to get too paranoid about the bugs, "We're going to that tree over there,". Right, OK then. Marie laughed at the way he spoke, in such a matter of fact I-want-it-my-way way that would have really annoyed her had it come from anyone else. She smiled at him and started to make her way over to the tree, but before she could even get halfway there he began to talk again. He was acting like a third year, and she was having fun trying to keep up with the changes to the location he kept on making.
"I plan on going to the common room to sit in an actual chair in a few minutes. Now are you gonna come, or be a loser and sit on an itchy tree?" She wasn't that far away from him, but she ended up shouting anyway - it seemed to fit the mood. "Oooh, wait for me! A comfy chair sounds like a great plan!" and she grabbed her book off the floor where it had fallen, and put her wand into her front pocket (not the back - that wasn't a good idea) and ran to catch up with Mark, grabbing onto his arm when she caught up with him in a very you're-not-getting-away manner. "Warmth" she muttered, quietly to herself.
OOC -- XD If you could post in the common room, adding a bit onto the beginning linking it to this thread? Please and fankoo.

Of course. I just made it. Sorry about the shortness of the thread but I have a sprained finger in a splint on my dominant hand (of course) and it takes me forever to type without it.
