Beth sat down under a nice shady tree and cracked open her books. As soon as she began reading, a gust of win came and turned the pages in the book. "Great. Perfect." She mumbled under her breath. She turned back to her page. Beth immediatly wished she had brought a jacket with her to the courtyard, because she was freezing.
She looked up at a Quidditch practice that was going on. So many distractions. Hard to study out here. But maybe that's just waht she needed. Somewhere to "study" without reading. She closed the book and sat up against the tree.
Not soon after Beth closed her eyes and dozed off had another gust of wind came, shaking multiple leaves off the tree and into her hair, waking her up. She stared up at the clouds. Feeling quite bored, she began to pick at the bark at the tree. And wait for somebody else to sit down and "study".

Melissa had been on her way back to Gryffindor Tower when she spotted her friend Bethany Meyers dozing under a tree in the courtyard and hurried over. "Hey Beth!" She called, sitting down next to her. "You aren't studying, are you?" She asked, her voice exasperated. "Merlin, you are one crazy girl. It's Saturday! You should be off trying to get a date for the Term Ball!. Look, Beth, there is no way on this green Earth that you are going to fail you exams." She added.
Melissa shook her head. Suddenly, she drew her birch wand, pointed it towards Gryffindor, and murmered," Accio Notebook and Quill!". Seconds later, Melissa's blue notebook and hawk feather quill came zooming down the hall towards her. Melissa reached her hand out and grabbed them in midair. She laid her notebook down on her lap, opened it up to a random page, and doodled a hippogriff.
"So," She began, looking up from her notebook at Bethany. "You never answered back at the common room. Who do you want to ask you out to the start of term ball?" She added. As she waited for her anser, she continued her hippogriff drawing, occasionaly stopping to dip her quill into Beth's ink jar.

Bethany muffled a giggle. "Yes, Mel, you may use the ink that I need to write with." Beth said as she slapped Mel's hand off her notebook and dipped her own quill in ink. She reached over to Melissa's notebook and gave her hippogriff eyes. She made the eyes nice and big. "There, He's staring at you." She said to Mel. She moved her book aside and turned to face her friend.
"Well, here's the thing," she said. "Back in the common room, Scarlett put James at the top of her list of people she had hoped would ask her to the ball." Beth paused to take a breath, then resumed her rambling. "I also wanted to go with him. I mean, I know the chances of him taking either of us are slim to none, but I didn't want to fight." Beth had anything but forgotten Scarlett putting Slyth's on her list of caidates too.
"She also had one or two Slytherins on her list," she said with a wary tone. "I don't really want to comment on her judgement, but they typically stay clear of Gryffindor students. I'm sure they'd want nothing of her." Beth didn't want to even fool with the ball at all.
"Oh, and by the way, I was not studying. Erm.. Maybe I was, but only for a couple seconds but then I fell asleep. Then some pesky leaves woke me up, then I stared at clouds, then you came." Beth described her afternoon quickly, and then went back to drawing the giant wings on Melissa's hippogriff. She finished drawing the lovely wings, and looked up at the clouds.
