Sighing heavily, Jack threw her half-finished scroll of Charms homework across the table. It slid a few feet, then fell to the floor, drifting lazily on the trickle of wind that was flowing through a crack in the brick wall. Pushing herself away from the table, Jack gazed around the Gryffindor Common room, trying to find something to pass the time until she figured out what she wanted to do. She would probably end up pranking somewhere, but she had gotten into a lot of trouble with that lately. 'I'm sure I'll find something to do...' Jack grinned at the thought.
Shaking her head out of her daze, she wandered up to her four poster, and sat on her bed for a moment. Thade was on the end of her bed, and Jack swung her feet up towards her pillow and placed her head right next to Thade's. She scratched behind his ears and neck and she heard a deep purr eminated from the belly of the tortoiseshell. Petting him a few last times she hopped off her bed and headed over to her trunk. Digging through her various possesions, she paused as she felt something cold and hard on her hand.
Drawing the item out of her trunk, her eyes frowned and her stomach lurched. It was a photo in a silver frame, with deep set stripes of black around the border. Inside was a picture of Jack and Kyle, a year after they first met, down by the lake. They looked so happy. Jack continued to stare at the picture with disdain. Then Kyle had started hanging out with Scarlett behind Jack's back. It was all his fault. Jack jammed the picture back into her trunk under some folded shirts and slammed the trunk closed with a 'bang'.
She sat on her trunk for a few moments, glowering at the memories and wallowing in her self-pity for a minute. Jack slipped off her trunk and sighed again. Picking herself up off the floor, she gave Thade a farewell pat and started down the stairs. Jumping over the last few steps towards the bottom, Jack landed hard and put her hand down to steady herself, then made her way over to the comfortable sofa near the fireplace. The green fabric was soft and feathery. Jack liked to rub it the wrong way and make patterns and pictures in it. She made a heart in it, and then frowning down at it, put an 'X' through it. She scribbled it out with her hand and laid down flat on the couch, staring up at the ceiling. Boys were such a waste of time.
After a few extremely dull moments of nothing, Jack sighed heavily and sat up on the couch, pushing up against the squashy cusion. She headed out the Fat Lady that served as the entrance to the Gryffindor commons, careful not to trip as she had a few times this year. That was painful. There was no one in the corridor as she descended the last few steps to the landing.
