ABOUT THE CHARACTER Name: Professor Blythe Skirrow Age: 23 Gender: Female Class: Divination Celebrity: Eva Green
Facial Properties: Blythe has slightly tanned but still pretty pale skin, but you can’t expect her to be all nice and toasty tan when she spends all day inside of Hogwarts… Unless there’s a good Quidditch match going on of course. Her eyes are slightly cat shaped and a nice dark green color, no contacts or glasses to mess with their appearance. Her lips are nicely shaped and usually done with a nice red color of lipstick… and a cigarette held between them. And Blythe is very fond of her hair, which is long and dark and usually looking very nice unless she’s having a bad day… Physique: Blythe is tall and has curves that are right for a woman of her age, with just a little bit of extra belly flab from days spent inside grading papers and predicting fortunes instead of outside. Though she does have a bit of belly flab Blythe makes up fro this by having very nice legs, toned because she prefers to walk instead of apparate or ride her broom, unless it’s a long distance. That and her classroom is located in the tower so she gets a nice amount of exercise from going up and down the stairs all day…
Personality: While teaching Blythe tries her hardest to be professional, but this is harder than it sounds since she is such a goofball. She’s always been a bit odd, tending to be off in her own little world rather than joining reality and she’ll proudly tell you that she’s a dreamer.
On the flipside of this goofy personality is a prideful streak as wide as the Hogwarts grounds. Blythe is proud of her appearance and her abilities and when someone is stupid enough to insult either she kind of snaps at them. This isn’t necessarily a goof thing since she’s teaching teenagers, most of who probably don’t believe at all in the divine arts.
When she’s not trying to be professional Blythe can be very laid back and easy going, or just plan silly if the time is right for her to act that way. But away from all this Blythe has a bit of a dark side, she can after all see into the future and the future isn’t always pleasant…
Blythe is also very fond of flirting, especially with the male staff members but occasionally if she’s bored she’ll tease the 7th years or just walk her way down to Hogsmeade so she can flirt with guys more around her age. She sees no problem with her flirting, seeing as she’s currently single and all, but she never gets serious with students and only flirts with handsome men or cute guys.
Some days though Blythe can be quite irritable from a lack of sleep thanks to her visions… On these days it really is best just to leave her be and let her settle down with a hot cup of tea, her cat, and a romance book. If you are so unfortunate as to have classes with her on these days…. Well just be careful and try your best to stay on her good side.
So yes, Blythe is a bit complicated and probably going to be a handful for any guy that tries to woo her romantically… But luckily for that guy, if he meets her standards that is if not he’s kind of doomed from the start, Blythe will be loyal as she can and will adore him with all of her heart. Lucky guy, huh? But first that guy has to show up, because so far in Blythe’s life her dream guy is MIA. Likes: *-Handsome men *-Cute guys *-A good drink of Firewhiskey *-Romance novels *-Lemon flavored anything *-Tea *-Her tomcat, Hermes *-Wigging people out *-Watching Quidditch *-Phoenixes *-Merpeople *-A good nights sleep *-Sword fights, especially watching them *-Conversing with the school’s ghosts Dislikes: X- Being woken up in the middle of the night X- Non-handsome men/cute guys that try to flirt with her X- Being hit on by girls X- Falling off a broom X- Being called a fake when it comes to her visions X- Conformity X- People talking about her behind her back X- People shouting at each other when she’s around X- People who interrupt her when she’s talking X- Having pranks being pulled on her X- Being ignored X- Having to deal with students serving detentions
History: Blythe’s mother was a Muggle born witch with seer abilities who, after graduating from Hogwarts, married her middle school sweet heart, a Muggle boy named Declan Acry. The two were always together and so in love that it was noxiously cute.
After a year of marriage Blythe’s mother, Emmeline, gave birth to a baby boy and a baby girl. Sadly, there were complications in the birth and Emmeline died two hours after her children were brought into the world. But Declan raised the two children, Aaron and Blythe, with enough love to make up for his wife’s absence through their lives.
When Blythe and Aaron both received their Hogwarts letters Declan felt a mixed rush of joy and heart break. Joy that, like their mother, his children were special… And heart break that he would have to let them go away. But despite his bit of heart break Declan was able to send his children away on the Hogwarts train with smile and a wave.
At Hogwarts Blythe was sorted into Gryffindor and found out she was special in more than one way. Blythe had also inherited her mothers’ seer abilities and was prone to having detailed and intense visions of events ranging from happening in the next day to happening far beyond her lifetime.
Because she had these visions, and they often caused problems during the night or in classes, Headmaster Dumbledore suggested she take Occlumency and Legilimency lessons. Blythe became quite skilled in the arts of Occlumency and Legilimency thanks to those lessons.
After her graduation from Hogwarts Blythe actually decided to take some time away from magic, other than what it took to suppress her visions that is, and went to a Muggle art school for photography for four years. She graduated with honors and several offers from magazine companies and photography studies for her to work there, but she felt Hogwarts calling her back so went to ask Dumbledore if she could have a job as a divination teacher. Dumbledore welcomed her into the Hogwarts staff with open arms and she’s been working there since then, and has also taken up residence until she no longer works there in the tower.
Resume: Blythe Skirrow passed her divination class with an O. Not only that but she has also been recognized as a credited seer by the ministry of magic and is a practitioner of the divine arts. Her specialty is a form of divination which consists of finding shapes in blood splatters from a pin prick to a finger and after finding out what shapes mean put the meanings together and tell a fortune, but Gemma has promised Dumbledore she’ll do no more than explain the idea of this method of divination.
ABOUT YOU Name: Aves Years of Experience: 4 or so… Sample Post: Ornithomancy is the practice of Ancient Greek augury of birds. Though mainly regarding the birds' flights and songs, any action of the bird could have been interpreted as a method of foreseeing or foretelling, or could have been interpreted as a message from the gods. These omens were considered with the utmost seriousness by Greeks and Romans alike. This form of divination became one branch of Roman national religion, which had its own priesthood and practice. One notable example occurs in the Odyssey, when thrice an eagle appears, flying to the right, with a dead dove in its talons; this augury was interpreted as the coming of Odysseus, and the death of his wife's suitors.
Blythe stared stupidly down at the pages of the text book she’d been glancing through. It was honestly amazing that students would even touch this book, let alone read from it… There was no way this text book was going to be used in her class! Blythe needed to keep the criteria interesting so her students would pay attention… And if they paid attention they’d learn… And if they learned they might actually realize what an important subject divination could be!
Pushing the first book aside Blythe reached for another one based around the use of many methods, but especially centering around the use of crystal balls, palmistry, tea leaves, cartomancy, astrology, and the interpretation of dreams. Oh! And there was even a section centering her specialty! And omens to! Now this was a good book…
Grinning Blythe scrawled down the textbook title and it’s author on the list Dumbledore had make about for what her students would need. Glancing over the list to make sure it was right Blythe stood and stretched, disturbing the fluffy orange cat known as Hermes who’d been dozing away in her lap.
“There we go, work all done… Now it’s time for some Firewhiskey and scoping out some hotties down in Hogsmeade!” Blythe yawned out and gave Hermes a loving pat on his head “And don’t worry my baby, I’ll bring you back something special…” she promised her loyal companion as she grabbed up her coat and started to head out of the tower. Now it was time for some fun! Other: Mimbulus Mimbletonia
