Isaac wasn't sure what had made him do it, but he had certainly done it. In a moment of weakness a couple of hours ago, he had decided to write a lengthy letter to his mother asking her why she had left them and why she hadn't come back. It had been three years since he had seen her or even talked to her and he wanted to know why. What had his father done to make her leave? What had Isaac done to make her leave? Was she not happy with the way he had turned out? Could he have done something to make her stay? He had never gotten any answers and he wanted them now. Taking a couple of shots in his room before heading out into the common room gave him just enough courage to actually decide to send that stupid letter.
Making sure to avoid eye contact as he left the Slytherin common room, Isaac slipped the letter into his jacket pocket and silently began to make his way to the owlery. Lost in his thoughts of why his mother had not contacted him in three years, Isaac weaved through the castle on autopilot. He was so wrapped up in his thoughts, in fact, that he didn't realize that he was about to run into someone... And that someone happened to be his newfound game player, Stefan Capper. "Shit!" Isaac was jostled but thankfully didn't fall on his butt in front of the younger Ravenclaw boy that he was supposed to look smooth around. Looking into the boy's eyes, Isaac ran a hand through his hair and straightened his jacket. "Stefan, man- I didn't even see you there..." Isaac was still a little dazed from being so consumed with his thoughts so he grinned at Stefan to make sure the Ravenclaw couldn't tell that something was off. "Wait a second. Were you following me?" Leaning against a wall, Isaac folded his arms across his chest and smiled genuinely. "You know, if you wanted to see me, all you had to do was send me a note in class."
He was actually glad that he had run into Stefan because he had been missing him lately. Although he would never admit that to anyone. Not even if he was being beaten up by a Death Eater. It was something about the innocence of the kid standing in front of him that made Isaac want to shag him. Of course, Isaac hadn't forgotten his overall motive for pursuing Stefan, but lately they had just been hanging out and frankly, Isaac enjoyed it. "Haven't gotten enough of me this past week, huh? Watching me practice on the Quidditch field wasn't all you wanted to do this week?" Unfortunately, Isaac was just playing the part of a friendly, easy-going guy to get Stefan to trust him and get Isaac into Stefan's pants as quickly as possible. But Stefan didn't know that, of course. And Isaac wasn't about to tell him. Taking a huge leap of courage, Isaac asked, "Hey, I was actually just about to send a letter... Would you like to accompany me to the owlery, Mister Capper?" Isaac grinned and gave a little bow, not caring if he seemed completely out of character to anyone passing by. Honestly, he hoped Stefan would say yes because he wasn't sure if he could send that letter alone.

It hadn’t been easy.
One would’ve thought that Stefan had already assumed it by now, the fact that him and Lyle were over for good, after almost a month. That he’d accepted it and moved on, you know? Well, maybe moving on was a little too much to expect, at least he certainly thought so, but accepted it? He should’ve done that already. And he had. At least he’d told himself he had. But then he’d ran into him last week, he’d found Lyle in the middle of a panic attack and he’d stayed to make sure he calmed down and they’d talked a little bit, not even anything at all, but they’d actually shared words back and forth, which was something they hadn’t done since Valentine’s Day. And as stupid as it was, as naïve and silly, there had been a moment, then, where he’d thought maybe things could go back to the way they’d been—that Lyle still loved him, too, that they could just forget about everything and fall back into each other’s arms.
But of course, life didn’t work like that.
The shattering reality that it didn’t matter whether they were speaking or not, they were still over, crashed into Stefan a couple of days ago, and he’d buried his face into his pillow and cried himself to sleep all over again. The next day, he’d washed his face and promised himself he’d let it sink in. Lyle wasn’t in his life anymore. He had to stop pretending that he might be. So he distracted himself—something which he’d become rather good at lately. He’d spent some time with Gabby, having her help him out with some Potions assignments, and talked to Emmeline, and after sitting out that one time while Isaac practiced Quidditch, they’d been spending much more time together lately. After ‘The Lyle Thing’, Stefan had asked Isaac to study with him for an incoming Charms test, since he owed that missed class to him, and that other time they’d gone back to the rock near the lake again and Stefan had attempted to throw a stone at the water once more. He’d managed it once, without Isaac’s help. Or when they’d gotten lost walking around the school after classes and had had to rush to make it to supper. He was getting to really know him, and so far, he really liked what he saw. Isaac was fun, and daring in a way he wasn’t. He was cocky and confident and made him blush half the time, and although he’d said over and over again that he needed to stop, and he didn’t understand his compliments and squirmed and flushed…there was something thrilling about it all that he couldn’t quite pinpoint.
Which is why it was extremely ironic when Stefan turned a corner without looking, having been going over some notes from his Defense Against the Dark Arts class and slammed into the very same boy, sending him stumbling back a little, but he managed to catch himself against a wall. Eyes wide, he looked up at Isaac and laughed. “Hey!” he greeted him with a smile, straightening his notes and trying to smooth out the corner that had been wrinkled. His eyebrows raised at the question, and he gave him a look, rolling his eyes. He’d now learned how to deal with things like these. “No, I wasn’t following you. I have better things to do than be your personal stalker,
” he said lightly, flashing him a teasing smile before pushing off the wall and looking around the corridor. He was about to ask where Isaac was going when the other one spoke, and he closed his mouth again, watching him bow a little. He was completely ridiculous. Stefan chuckled to himself. “ You really hate my name, don’t you?” he said, shaking his head and folding the notes before sliding them neatly into the back pocket of his trousers. “ Also, you don’t have to make a huge declaration every time you want me to go somewhere with you, you know.” Waiting for Isaac to straighten up, he fell into step beside him easily, moving down towards the door to the grounds, and tied his scarf a little tighter around his neck as they walked up the path in the grounds up to the Owlery. “ So, who’re you sending a letter to?” he asked once they got up there, and he stuffed his hands into his pockets, looking around at the various owls there, up at the ceiling and turned back to Isaac questioningly.
