All the voices in her head are screaming at her to respond with one, short, resounding "no," but her heart is beating at a quickened pace and Serena can't help but surrender to the blush mounting her cheeks. Her fingers tremble as she pens a response, lips pressed into a thin, anxious line. Even from the back of his head, Calixto Bailer is one of the sweetest-looking boys she's ever seen.

I'm sorry I offended you at the Yule Ball and ruined your night. I really, really didn't mean to. I was having a good time with you before I messed it up. I guess I didn't see things through your eyes. I didn't mean for you to think that I wanted to ditch you or that your company wasn't good enough or anything like that. It made me truly sad to think that I upset and disappointed you all.

Well. That is sufficient. She quiets her heart and forces herself to approach this from a logical standpoint. She can't let her feelings run away with her dignity – however much she may like Calixto, she cannot allow him to triumph over her when he is clearly in the wrong. Now that he has made an apology they are on level playing field again, but she's going to make him work for the luxury of her confidence. She will keep mum on practically every subject, barely deigning to give him more than a few words per day, until he is begging at her feet just to hear the sound of her voice.
Apology accepted.

Oh. Oh. He – he bought her a gift. He bought her a gift. Serena's world comes to a screeching halt as she stares at the little box and moves her trembling fingers to open it. Circe, he better not disappoint her with this, or else she'll have almost suffered a heart attack for nothing. Even so, something inside tells her that it doesn't matter if there's a lump of coal in this box she'd still have feelings for Calixto that could never be shaken. But, as she removes the lid of the box and lets escape a tiny gasp, she sees that this is not a lump of coal. It's beautiful, and just her style. Aquamarine has always looked brilliant with her hair and skin, and – Calixto must have thought of that. This is the first time she's ever received a gift from a true Pureblood gentleman and the weight of that achievement sits heavily on her chest. He – he cares for her. He took time out of his day to purchase something (of high quality, as far as she can tell) expressly for her. It feels so wonderful it almost hurts and her heart is beating so quickly she feels faint as she pens her reply.
I'll treasure it always.
