I have to say it. I just HAVE to. When someone corrects a native speaker’s grammar out loud when they themselves are not a native speaker of that language, what are they thinking? Are they on crack, are they drunk, have they lost their freaking minds? Good Lord you’re a cocky son of a gun. I don’t care if they are right or not (and I’ll admit that they often are correct), you just don’t do that. Ever. Not unless the individual has said, “Hey. Do me a favor and correct me when I say something wrong, since you’re so smart, talented and all-around perfect.” In that case, it’s totally okay for that individual to correct their English/Spanish/whatever. Otherwise, when you correct someone, it says that you not only lack social skills, but that you are also arrogant and fail to remember that knowing perfect grammar does not mean that you speak perfectly. If everyone of a native language in a particular area speaks in a certain way, whether or not the grammar is always correct – it’s right. Do you want to sound like a native or not, buddy?

Thanks guys lol. Basically, I was at work and my foreign co-worker, whom I am not ashamed to say has incredibly good English, corrected the grammar I used when I was helping a student after they left the office. I chuckled a bit and said “okay, sure but it doesn’t really matter.” Then, he continued to correct me. I proceeded to tell him in a rather nice way that I don’t really want my English corrected, and then, I quote, he said: “Well sometimes you just need to be humble.” This comes from the guy who takes pictures of himself and then bothers me while I’m working to tell him which one I like best so he can use it as his facebook profile pic. Come on! So I asked him if he’d like it if someone corrected his Portuguese, and he said “sure” and I said, “like hell you would.” That shut him up, considering the fact that I go to a private religious school and even using the word “hell” is like telling someone they are a motherphucker LOL.
Anyways sorry for the rant but I figured that’s what this board is for and I haaaaaad to tell someone (and finally, with swear words included) love you all and goodnight haha.
