{ A B O U T . T H E . C H A R A C T E R } Name: Rowan Alexander Avery Age: Seventeen Gender: Male Year: Seventh Face Claim: Chris Evans Canon or Original? Canon
Facial Properties: What a blue eyed wonder he is. Rowan inherited his mother’s eyes. They were ice blue on her own face, with her light blonde hair creating the illusion that evil could not touch her body. His father was quite the contrary. Dark curly hair with bright green eyes made him stand out in a crowd without trying. He held himself with darkness, and together they created a mix of each of them. Rowan has his mother’s pure bright eyes, but also holds the jet black color of his father. He’s an interesting guy. Some say he is beautiful, but Rowan would never admit to that. His eyes make him stand out, something he wished would go away. Besides his eyes and hair, his overall face is pretty ordinary. His cheek bones are more pronounced then some, and his nose is a pointed rather than round. His hair falls above his ears, and his eyes are tilted slightly so he always has that comfortable laid back look on his face. Something unique to him is his talented eye brows. He can be quite expressive with the bushy hairline above his eyes. They can jump up, go right, flip flop, narrow down, and be relax to normal with always a funny little crinkle in them. They’re very much big on his face, but his full head of hair actually tends to even it out on his face. Rowan’s lips and smile aren’t very different than anyone else’s. He’s not really a fan of smiling, so most kids will know Rowan for the smirk on his lips, or the pursed out annoyed face he gives when he’s annoyed or frustrated. Smiling is rare for him.
Physique: He’s a strong man. Muscle isn’t something Rowan lacks. He might not be the tallest kid standing 5’11, but he isn’t short. He holds himself together nicely. At school, he was thought of as a first year for his first three years. Kids passing him by in the halls just thought of him as that young. It wasn’t his fault he was such a small kid when he was little. By fourth year he had hit puberty though, and he grew a few inches and turned out to be pretty average. He’s happy with that. Rowan would rather be normal then standing out. He hated when he was younger and he stuck out so much. But those days of his life were over. He had grown up and was now a very handsome young man.
Wand Type: 11’ Oak with Dragon Scales Wand Expertise: Dark Arts Patronus: Polar Bear Boggart: Weakness Personality: First thing you should know about Rowan is that he’s quite. It isn’t the fact that he’s shy, or that he doesn’t like speaking his mind, no he just would rather listen to his surroundings than contribute to anything that could potentially weaken his status. That was very important to him, and he took pride in keeping himself from saying anything unnecessary. He was a listener and an observer, it fit his life style much better. He was incredibly good at reading people because of this. In classes he would sit in the back and just listen. Not only to the professor but to the kids that were side talking around him. He would listen to their body language and figure out what exactly what was going on inside their heads. He wasn’t really into the whole social thing at school, sure he would go to a few parties and live his life, but you wouldn’t see him dancing on a table in front of everyone. Again, unnecessary things were something he kept himself away from. The temptation of doing something stupid just appalled him. Was it crazy that he had issues with embarrassment? Perhaps. However, a past like his of total perfection would clam up anybody from doing what they want. Growing up in a home of perfection truly shaped the way he viewed the world. There was no room for imperfection. That was what he was taught, and so being surrounded by loud obnoxious teenagers put him off a little bit. But being in a school of imperfection: whether that be muggle born wizards to obnoxious loud mouthed purebloods, he grew up with it, and now that he was in his seventh year, he had loosened up a bit. He decided that it wasn’t about who everyone was and what they did, it mattered what he did. And he was going to keep to quiet side. Simple as that.
Second thing you should know about Rowan is that he is very sensitive. Sweet and sensitive right? No. He could be, to the right people, but as of right now he is hiding from the world his true self. Because of his history, the pain in his life has made him hard to crack. Up front he appears to be bold and could hold his head high and get through the day like any other student at Hogwarts. But when you take away the people, and you see how he is when he is alone in his room, you start to realize that maybe he isn’t who he says he is. Death in a family could do that to a kid. Young as he was when it happened. When he’s by himself he can barely hold onto the fact that he holds a secret that is keeping his family from tipping over the edge. As painful as that secret is, he doesn’t know if he’ll ever be able to tell someone about it. But holding on to such a secret is slowly killing him inside. Without distractions, he finds himself suffering massively. He would never admit to anyone that he is as sensitive as he is, but if you really get to know Rowan, you’d have to be blind not to see the pain in his eyes as he goes through his day. Close friends can see it even when they’re in public, but strangers won’t be able to tell. Rowan knows that. But sometimes he has those days that are harder then he’d hope, and he can’t help but blow up at someone. He regrets it immediately. But sometimes he can’t always be the quiet kid he tries so hard to be. As much as he tries to never embarrass himself, even he can fail. Everyone can fail.
Third thing to know about Rowan is that he doesn’t really care much for the truth. He doesn’t expect it from others nor does he follow through in the honor system. He goes by what his mind tells him to say to protect himself. Whether that be a little white lie or a story about his life filled with complete bullshit, Rowan is that kid. He knows exactly why he’s the way he is too. He has something to protect: His family’s honor. He would keep that honor until his death if he had the choice. So one might ask why would he tell a stupid white lie? Well to be honest, it was pretty entertaining to Rowan to see someone buy his bullshit. It gave him that little smile that could make a shitty day turn right around. Is it fair? Nah and Rowan was fully aware of that. Would that stop him? Probably not. Rowan enjoyed it. Besides, it wasn’t like he was hurting anyone he actually cared about. It wasn’t like he lied to his best friends. He just lied to strangers because it amused him. He didn’t even consider it lying to his friends about his family, because he just stayed clear of that subject. He just didn’t mention it or bring it up. Was that lying? Rowan didn’t really know or care. His friends would be able to deal with it.
Fourth thing to know is that Rowan is actually quite funny. It’s weird that someone holding so much hurt and pain around with him would find time to even smile, but around other kids he can put on quite the act. And sometimes he even is actually truly enjoying himself. When he’s walking the corridors with his friends, he can actually be quite the jokester, and it’s a comic relieve to find himself taking things lightly, but his hilarity only comes in waves. He is definitely not the kid that sits in the back of the room and makes jokes about the professors. No, he spends his class time finding humor in the laid back lives of the teenagers in his classes. It was the small things like that that he would find his humor in. He liked to make things funny every now and again. It made things fresh, and kept him from completely slipping into a depressed pity party that consisted of himself. Nah, there was definitely a part of him that loved to be just an ordinary kid that laughed at funny things with his guy friends. But never in a million years would he admit it. He was too good for random joking, remember? He thought of it as a waste of time.
Fifth thing to know about Rowan is that he isn’t the kid you’d expect when you first meet him. There is so much more to him then just another stuck up Slytherin that thinks he and his pureblooded friends are so much better than everyone else. Yeah, he actually is an ass most of the time, but if you tear off the layers from Rowan there is a decent guy in there. He has his flaws of course, and tends to say the wrong things around the ladies, but deep down. Deep deep deep down, all he wants to be is a normal teenager. Maybe. He still thinks he’s better than everyone else, but he has nothing but his life ahead of him. But the secret that is pulling him back. That is why he has so many layers to himself. To a stranger, he might appear as an arrogant bastard, hell, there might even be truth to that statement, but if you take the time to talk to him, you find out that there is more to him then just that, he actually knows what he’s bitching about. Funny. One might wonder how he has friends. That’s just it, he treats his friends well. Once you peel off the layers he can be quite the trustworthy friend. You might want him on your team because he doesn’t take to enemies lightly. Students need to definitely watch their backs with this one because if you fuck with any of his close friends, he’ll actually come after you. He’s one of those kids that won’t just give you a pep talk to help ease the pain, oh hell no he’ll be the one in detention for playing a nasty prank on the culprit. Basically, to wrap Rowan up in a nut shell; he’ll always take you by surprise. It’s highly suggested you try and get on his good side.
The sixth thing to know about Rowan, is that if you don’t tear off the layers, he’s your typical teenage jerkface guy. With his friends he can be nasty, and can definitely be a bit rude at times. He’s funny, he doesn’t like to be embarrassing and he likes to hold his head higher than everyone else, yet even sometimes you’ll find him being a stupid guy. It’s probably a teenage thing, but pretty much Rowan likes to think he and his Slytherin friends are better than everyone else. He might make an exception here and there, but he’s pretty much a stuck up brat to everyone’s face. If he decides to talk to you. He isn’t one to just blab away about the flaws of other people, but if you poke hard enough, he might let up and let you in and what he actually thinks about people. In his mind he thinks nasty things about people, it’s just if he actually lets it be said aloud or not that makes it interesting. Rowan doesn’t exactly have a problem with age either. He thinks that if a first year is mature and smart enough, why not listen to what they have to say? However, if it’s a Hufflepuff, he might not even turn his head to hear what the kid has to say. But in the Slytherin Common Room you might find Rowan talking casually with students of the younger years. He doesn’t judge by age. He even dates girls that are younger than him. It’s really not a big deal to him, it just matters who they are and what they have to talk about and if he actually wants to listen to what they have to say.

History: Frank Avery was well respected among the Death Eaters. His wife Lenette and him grow up together in the Slytherin house and were Prefects throughout their final years in Hogwarts. It was a love story like any other. They cared for each other, and that was pretty much it. There snarky personalities got them far in the house of Slytherins, but they were well aware of the dislike the rest of the school had for them. They only smirked in their name. Their blood was pure; therefore, they needed no lower class students groveling at their feet. They could get by on their own. That was their moto. If anyone wanted to join them, well they weren’t really asking for followers. Frank was different. He didn’t like strangers, and he was secretive. He was dark and had joined forces with the Death Eaters before graduation. They were anticipating his arrival after his departure from Hogwarts. Frank was anticipating it too. His final months at Hogwarts were spent by himself. He had a strong need for power, and in these months he plotted how exactly he was going to get himself to be a favorite of the Dark Lord. Lenette worried for him, but she never expressed her fear to him, she never told anyone. She didn’t admit to anyone, but Frank was beginning to scare her. Yes, she was on his side and being the supportive girlfriend she was trying to be, but deep down she was scared. Power was something she craved, but being around such violence and torture horrified her. She wanted to be the powerful one; she didn’t want to be groveling at the Dark Lord’s feet. She didn’t like the idea of him holding so much power over her and her small family. But she was in too deep; she couldn’t back away now. Frank would murder her. She knew too much about him. Lenette would hold the secrets until her grave, but Frank didn’t know that. If he was tested in the right way, he would attack. Lenette knew him better than anyone in the world. Call her crazy to be so worried about the future, but she couldn’t shake the feeling. She had to keep her mouth shut too. If Frank found out that she was even thinking about confiding in someone other than him, he would kill her.
And so they graduated. They married soon after as well. They were happy. To their friends and families, everyone was happy. But even in her wedding gown, Lenette felt uneasy about her husband. They were a dangerous pair, she knew that. She was supposed to be the supportive wife who joined in with all the Death Eater business, but she couldn’t. She pretended, and hell she did a fine job of pretending. No one suspected anything. But the fear was rising up inside of her. At night she lost sleep. It was a horrible feeling to not be able to trust the person you’re supposed to love most. As she laid awake at night, she’d sometimes just watch Frank sleep. He seemed so peaceful, like he was still the boy she fell in love with in their 1st year. He was a boy. He was just a boy. Sighing, she didn’t know what was going to happen to them. She hoped that nothing disastrous would ever happen to them, but she couldn’t help the thoughts that creeped into her head. It was a night that she actually got a bit of sleep that the dream appeared in. The Dark Lord was there, hissing at her as she fell on her knees. She looked around to see a familiar face, but they were covered in their dark masks. She hated this, she hated the power they had over her. Quickly, she looked around to try and distinguish her husband from the others. She managed to find him, and as her eyes met his, his mask evaporated. Crying, she pleaded for help from him, but he just smiled and watched. He just watched as the Dark Lord tortured her. That was when she woke up crying. Frank was right by her side to her surprise. He held her while she cried and he kept asking her what had scared her so much, but she couldn’t tell him. She just shook her head and kept mumbling, “Just a bad dream.”
He did appear to be there for her, despite her fears. She couldn’t help that she was so in love with him, so when he appeared to be returning her love for once, she had to embrace it. They began trying for children, and around a month before their first anniversary, Lenette got the news that she was in fact pregnant. Being pregnant surprisingly calmed her. Frank began to show more interest in the little tiny life inside of her, and this gave her hope. They decided that if the baby were to be a boy, they would name him Rowan. If she were to be a girl though, they’d name her Rose. As the pregnancy went on, they prepared for the arrival of their first child. They bought a crib, toys, and bottles. Lenette was very excited. Frank was starting to get uneasy though. As the summer stretch finally came to an end and Lenette was getting ready to deliver, Frank could hardly contain his nerves. He was scared. This baby was going to rule his life for many, many, years. Would he be able to handle that? He didn’t think he would. As he stood pacing outside of the room where his wife was delivering, he couldn’t help but have the urge to run. Run and never look back. But he couldn’t, he loved Lenette. He really did. He wanted his unborn child to be great too. They were to be a family, and he knew that Lenette wouldn’t be able to handle his departure. It would be all too easy though, and without a family he’d be able to get even closer to the Dark Lord. He’d only have to worry about himself. The idea was horrible, but it was filling his head. He couldn’t shake it out either. He was even bracing himself to start running when the doctor came out to tell him that he had a healthy baby boy. That was when Frank stopped. A boy? He followed the doctor into the room and saw his tired wife holding a beautiful baby. This was Rowan. Frank couldn’t believe his eyes. He had a son now. Did things like this just happen?
Rowan grew up a spoiled boy. He always had the best, and attention was always on him. Being an only child suited him, and Lenette knew that he would not make a good sibling. He was greedy, and he would take advantage of younger children, and so Lenette decided it was best to keep him as the only child of their family. Rowan didn’t seem to mind. He had a giant castle to play in and explore, and family friends would bring their kids to play with him. He was a bit of a bully to them, but it was his house, he was allowed to show them who was boss. Besides, he was bigger and stronger, those little brats needed to know that he wasn’t going to be taking crap from anyone. He was the best toddler in the world. He had everything, he even had a personal butler to follow him around and fetch him whatever he pleased. Lenette and Frank had spoiled this kid out of his mind. Frank didn’t seem to mind, he felt his child deserved everything, but Lenette was a little worried about how he would succeed at Hogwarts with the other children. Rowan had already made a bully of himself to the kids who would be in his house, how was he going to win their approval? Lenette didn’t know what to do, but as Rowan grew older, he turned his power into a silent weapon. When kids came over to play at Chirstmas parties and dinners, he would turn his new found charm on them and let them decide what to play or do. He observed them to find out who exactly they were. It turned into his favorite past time and he couldn’t help but smile in delight of the power he had over his ‘friends’.
His first year was a success because of his new way of dealing with his classmates. He was silent, undetected by most. It was such a splendid way to get to know people. He figured out these kids true colors without ever having to deal with being backstabbed or made fun of. It was perfect for Rowan. It was during this year that his father began having trouble with his Death Eater business. Rowan was very interesting in this organization. He had vowed to join as soon as his father first explained them to him. He remembered that night well. They were sitting together in their living room on a cold winter night with the wind howling, and his father had told him a story of great power and magic. Ever since that night Rowan had been intrigued to join. But having to stay at Hogwarts while his father went through trouble worried him. He didn’t like having to stay in protection as his father appeared to be in danger. The owls they exchanged between each other got weirder. Each one was more and more disturbing. Frank was writing things like, No need to worry, everything in the house is alright after the... accident. But everything is perfect. No need to worry about us! Your mother says she loves you. It was the letters like these that began to scare him, but he could never admit to the fear he was feeling. He couldn’t disgrace his family’s name. They were still the powerful force they appeared to be. Nothing could change that. Rowan just wanted to know what the hell was happening. When he went home over the Holiday break, his family finally explained what had happened during those confusing weeks. The Dark Lord had gotten a false impression of the Avery family betraying him. It was soon to be discovered it was a fake, and the Dark Lord terminated the wizard at fault. But nonetheless, he had attempted to kill them. Rowan stared blankly in confusion but Frank assured him that the Dark Lord was right in questioning his Death Eater’s loyalty. Too many traitors are out in the world.
Too many traitors are out in the world…
Rowan kept that to heart, all through his Hogwarts school years.
