snow day, let's play there's no school today
In the grand scheme of things, it wasn’t like Lucy was being particularly cruel or unfair with her request. And in the grand scheme of things, Caoimhe had accepted the offer and would when the time came (and she supposed during the lead up since she now had… responsibilities of a organizational nature) be supportive and happy of course. Hell, if she was to be honest, when Lucy asked her to be a bridesmaid at her wedding, Caoimhe actually was flattered, honored even, that the girl had picked her out of all her friends to be there with her. She was even secretly somewhat excited for the whole disaster. After all, the only time that Caoimhe had been a bridesmaid in the past was for Kate’s wedding two years ago and, outside the normal amount of fighting and head butting that took place in their family, Caoimhe was thankfully left out of most of the decision making process and left to just show up on the day of. All of this being said, however, the Irish girl still had her very selfish side and she’d be damned if she was going to go through that spectacle alone. And that’s where Aiden would come in…
She sent the owl a few days after going back home for the Christmas holidays. The Yule Ball happened the night before they left to go home and, while that had been decent albeit jealousy inspiring at every turn sort of event, things had seemed relatively normal on the train ride back to London. Well, normal as in they acted themselves but mulled over everything unsaid in the occasional silences. Even if Caoimhe was becoming more jealous by the day of all the girls Aiden associated with, especially the ones he seemed to genuinely enjoy taking care of like Gamp, inviting him to meet up at Diagon guaranteed more than Hogwarts ever did his full attention. Friendly and normal for them, yes, selfish and the best way to guarantee spotlight remained on her, that also was true. Throw in that whole wanting to ask him to be her plus one for Lucy’s wedding and they had a good day laid out before them.
That and she kind of missed the uncomplicated version of their relationship. This was like the old days. And that was a good thing.
Gloved hand lightly pressing against the glass of their favorite shop in Diagon Alley, Quality Quidditch Supplies seemed like a logical place for the two of them to meet up. Caoimhe’s green eyes, reflected in the window as she stared inward, followed along with the very familiar shopkeeper as he reached in to pull out the latest model of the Cleansweep to show to adoring fans. No, she wasn’t inside drooling and flailing like whatever children were mobbing the poor man, but the look of longing in her pink cheeked face was hard to miss. The pining hand dropped back to her side as the broom disappeared behind the display, revealing her reflection in the midst of the other passersby. Her mess of auburn curls were knotted into a high, equally tousled bun, exposing the bare skin between the nape of her neck and her red scarf to the occasional gust of wind. Her open peacoat, soft and dark grey, brushed her upper thighs and the jeans that she rarely got the chance to wear during the school year (or at home, since they were “too sloppy”). Hm, not bad—a hand on her shoulder had Caoimhe’s head flicking away from her own figure and to the person next to her, a grin forming as Aiden came into view. “Fancy seeing you here… the Cleansweep’s already been stolen by some fools inside though. You were too late.” She turned to face him, leaning back against the window as her eyebrow raised conspiratorially. "So do you want to go and beat them up and steal the thing now or do our meandering first and then stalk them down in some dark alley in an hour or so?"
