It was really nice meeting you this term, and I look forward to spending more time with you after the holidays. I think I'm starting to improve with the happy memories. Maybe when we come back I'll actually be able to produce a Patronus.

Anyway, I hope your holidays are going well and you're getting to spend lots of time with your family. I opted to stay at Hogwarts this year and avoid the drama at home. Plus, it'll give me a chance to read the material for next term and get a head-start in practicing spells. Maybe I'll even get to work on the Patronus.

I'm very sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Thing is, I'm out of the country. A friend of mine came back and I guess you could say she kidnapped me, haha. Don't worry, Dumbledore knows.

To tell the truth, I've sorta been out of it the past few days. Things just went from bad to worse and I guess I hit bottom, so it's a good thing she came and got me, I think. I sent a postcard with the letter of the island we're staying on.

That's not important though. I want to know how you are. Are you all right? Were you in that mess in Diagon Alley? All I know is that there was one casualty. My best friend knew her, and so did this other guy I know who was staying at Hogwarts for the holidays too. I feel bad for abandoning him, but I was really no good to anyone, haha. That's selfish though, sorry. But really, how are you? Are you hurt bad? Your mother wrote and said that she'd pass along my letter when you woke up. So really, are you okay?

Also, sorry about the bird. They don't have owls on the island. Careful though, he can be a bit messy after he's eaten. Watch your feet.

I'm all right. Just got home, actually. Mum wanted to come with me from the hospital, but I told her I could make it on my own. Er, yeah, me and my family were in Diagon Alley when the attack happened. My brother told me about Marlene, I've got a friend who's taking it pretty hard too. Wish I'd seen her that night, maybe I'd have been able to help.

Don't worry about me, I'm healing fine. Just got to take my potions, that's all.

You were right about the bird, he sh made a big mess on the floor before I'd even gotten your envelope open.

Of course I'm all right. And yeah, the island's quite a blast. I learned how to surf, though I'm not that great at it. We're having a lot of fun. The islanders are all very friendly.

I'm glad you're doing okay and that your family is all safe. It's sad about Marlene. I hope you're friend starts feeling better, too. And I'm sure everyone did everything they could to protect others. What happened to Marlene was sad, yes, but no one's fault except the Death Eaters'.

Don't forget to take all of them. Can't heal properly otherwise.

Yeah, he's temperamental. He actually flew away as soon as I got your letter and I had to go get a new bird. This one isn't as messy but she can nip if you don't give her a treat right away.

PS- Haha, I dunno. The only people I had to kiss were either island boys or the girl I came with, so... Anyway, we went na night-surfing on New Years' Eve and watched the fireworks from the sea. It was amazing.

Yeah. This is really a once-in-a-lifetime thing. There's no way I could ever afford a trip half this nice on my own.

Hogwarts has new security measures in place now, so hopefully students don't get hurt anymore.

For nothing? You were unconscious in the hospital. That's not exactly nothing, haha. I'm just glad you're okay now.

I wish I could stay forever, but we're heading home tomorrow in the morning. Actually, by the time you get this, we'll probably be flying over. Might even be landed, who knows. Because it's long distance and we're underage and it's a Muggle resort, we had to fly in an aeroplane and helicopter. Pretty exciting.

Clearly I just want you to get the full aviary experience. This guy is clean and doesn't bite, but he's loud. Also, careful. He learns words really fast. I accidentally swore when I was around him and from the time I did that until he got too far away to hear, he squawked "Fuck fuck fuck" continuously for all the island to hear. So that was fun. Sorry about your finger, though. Murtlap will fix that right up. Even sent a vial in case you didn't have any.
