{ A B O U T . T H E . C H A R A C T E R } Name: Blair Abigail McKenna Age: 15 Gender: Female Year: 5th Face Claim: Karen Gillan
Canon or Original? Original
Facial Properties: With a round, babylike face the best word to use when describing Blair would be "cute". Despite the copious amount of time she spends outside, she still manages to retain a rather pale complexion, with light freckles spattered across her nose. Not particularly special or attractive, she has a sweet smile and generally friendly face that draws people to her. She has light brown eyes and vivid red hair that falls halfway down her back. Her thin lips give her sort of an awkward appearance; it is the one thing she is most self-conscious about. She prefers to keep her appearance simple and is never seen with makeup on (mostly due to the fact that she does not know how to use it). Her hair is always free of product and more often than not is either left hanging straight down or pulled back in a simple ponytail.
Physique: { one or more paragraphs } Standing at 5'2" Blair has a very petite body, weighing only 105 pounds. With more of an athletic figure due to her high involvement in quidditch, she lacks the soft natural curves most teenage girls her age have. From behind she could easily be mistaken for a boy if not for her feminine attire. She is often seen as too skinny; an attribute she can thank her high metabolism for. Her best physical attribute would be her arms; toned and strong she could rival a boy twice her size in arm strength. Her obsession with constant activity and exercising makes her tough and strong for her size. Blair has a very simple but cute look. Without her robes she is usually seen sporting a very cute skirt with a solid coloured top and a trusty pair of sneakers.
Wand Type: Rosewood, 9 1/2 inches, dragon heartstring Wand Expertise: Charms Patronus: Wolf Boggart: Her gravestone Personality: Raised in a single parent house-hold Blair is immensely loyal and believes strongly in family-ties. Raised only by her father the best words used to describe her would be tough and strong. Although sweet natured, cute and harmless in appearance Blair's personality is far from any of those traits. She is often seen as snappy and sarcastic, making it difficult for her to acquire and keep any close friends. She never puts on a fake smile or pretends to feel anything other than what she actually feels. Blair is unbearably blunt and honest; she hardly ever lies, not even to spare a person's feelings. The only time she would lie would be to keep herself and the people she loves out of harms way. Unfortunately for her, she has no intention of ever being mean to anyone, and is unaware of when she does it. Blair is unable to grasp the concept of sensitivity, never being taught it, and often insults people unintentionally. Though she would never openly admit it, her inability to keep friends hurts her more than she'd like and consequently causes her to be more angry and sarcastic. Blair is highly pessimistic and cynical, and refuses to see the best in people when they refuse to see the best in her.
A huge downside in her personality is that Blair is very defensive, and single-minded; often to the point of recklessness. She rarely thinks of consequences and acts in the moment. She is easily goaded and often responsive to personal attacks and insults. Growing up she's had her share of duels and before discovering she was a witch, Blair would often engage others in fist fights. Her temper is very volatile and it would be in one's best interest to steer clear of her path when she's angry. Blair is very headstrong and is always up for a good argument. She never backs down from a fight and has a hard time admitting she's wrong.
Believed to be abandoned by her mother at a young age, Blair only had her father to rely on. Unable to connect emotionally with her, he raised her to be tough and independent. He made it so she would never need anyone in her life should anything happen to him. He also never wanted her to feel the pain of getting close to someone only to lose them like she did her mother. Blair dislikes asking for help and believes that everyone should be able to fend for themselves. She is by no means a defender of the weak. What her father and biology had taught her at an early age was that life is based on natural selection; survival of the fittest. She works extremely hard to keep herself physically fit and mentally stimulated, and her grades are kept above average in order to ensure a stable career in life.
Blair's trust is not easily placed in people, and nearly impossible to gain back when lost. The friends she lacks in quantity, she makes up for in quality. The best part of her personality would be her loyalty. Although she is not necessarily "nice" to people she considers friends, she is fiercely loyal to them and will do everything in her power to stand by the people she cares about. Once one is able to push past her unfavourable qualities they tend to stick by her because she makes an excellent and loyal friend.

History: Blair's mother, Ceilidh Duncan was born to a respectable and well-known pure-blood family in Edinburgh, Scotland. She was rebellious and disliked being told how to act and how to dress. She was very adventurous and hated feeling trapped. She rarely stayed committed to relationships and hated the future her parents had set for her. Upon her completion of Hogwarts, she cut off all ties with her family and moved out on her own to a little muggle neighbourhood in Dundee. There she met a handsome young man named Charles McKenna. Ceilidh lied about her identity and introduced herself to him as Ceilidh Finlay; she had no intention of staying with him for long. However, his persuasive nature and promises of love and happiness won her over and she found herself growing rapidly in love with him. She kept her magical history a secret from him, afraid that he may not accept her and instead claimed that her entire family was dead. They were married within a year of meeting and after a year of marriage their baby daughter Blair Abigal Mckenna was born.
By Blair's first birthday Ceilidh was starting to feel restless and bored. She grew tired of their marriage and of having to hide her magical abilities so she began numerous affairs with men from nearby wizarding communities. She showed no interest in her husband and even less interest in their daughter. Ceilidh missed many important and crucial moments in Blair's life like her first step and her first words. Still blindly in love with her, Charles did everything he could to try and keep Ceilidh. This only irritated her more and just days before Blair's second birthday Ceilidh had packed all her belongings and moved back to Edinburgh leaving nothing more than divorce papers on the kitchen table.
Around the age of five Blair began showing signs of magical ability. Initially Charles waved it off as coincidences; things breaking when she was angry, or he simply thought teacher would exaggerate whenever they told tales of things floating around her. However, her magic became hard to ignore, especially on days where it was particularly strong. Her teachers labelled Blair a troublesome child, making life very difficult for her and her father. With no mother around to raise her, Blair was often shunned by many of the girls in her class. However, due to her ability to cause destruction without actually touching anything, it was difficult for anyone to place blame on her without any proof. This attracted a small group of boys who liked to cause trouble. They accepted her into their group and formed close friendships with her. They defended her (not that she needed much defending) when people picked on her and they were considered her best friends.
Just after her 7th birthday something happened that made it impossible for Charles to ignore his daughter's peculiar circumstances. For her birthday he had bought her a dog whom she had promptly named Hamlet. One day Blair was leaving her yard to him for a walk when Hamlet escaped from his leash and ran out onto the road. Without thinking she chased after him which resulted in her being struck by a car. Charles had stepped outside just in time to see his daughter's tiny body fly up into the air and crash hard into the pavement. Positive that she was dead he cried out and ran towards her only to find her, sitting straight up and rubbing her head; not a bruise or scratch in sight. She immediately stood up and stared curiously at her father's pale face. Despite her insisting that she was fine, Charles rushed her to the hospital only to be told the exact same things she had said; she was perfectly unharmed.
Bewildered, and to be honest a little scared of his daughter, Charles began his search of Ceilidh, in hopes of forcing an explanation from her. He hired people to search all of Scotland but nobody was able to find anyone by the name of Ceilidh Finlay or McKenna. Eventually he gave up his search and tried to live normally, his only goal in life to raise Blair right. Months before Blair's 11th birthday, Blair and her father had just returned from the grocery store when they found an owl sitting on the windowsill. Attached to it's leg was an envelope addressed to Charles. Inside the envelope was a 6 page letter from Blair's mother with a full confession of who she was, and consequently who Blair was as well; a witch. She explained that Blair would be invited to a school called Hogwarts and that her invitation would come by owl, just as her letter had. The rest of the letter detailed what they needed to do to prepare Blair for her education; how to get to Diagon Alley, where to get her wand and all the needed school supplies, and how to get onto the platform 9 3/4. At the end of the letter Ceilidh stated that she felt obligated to prepare them for the huge change in Blair's life and with that she had done her motherly duty. She then asked to never be contacted by Charles again.
As promised, Blair received her letter on her 11th birthday and together her and her father explored an entirely new world. He bought her everything and more that a first-year student would need, anxious about their 10 month of separation. He knew he had raised her to be strong and independent but she was all he had left in the world. Initially, Blair had her qualms about attending a new school and leaving behind the group of boys she had bound herself to in Primary 1. After 6 years together, they were the best of friends; but the idea of a brand new world filled with magic and new learning opportunities excited Blair immensely.
September 1st came around and Blair found herself bidding her father farewell at the platform. She sat with a group of fellow excited first years, all eager to be on their way to Hogwarts. Some, like herself, had no previous knowledge of the school growing up and shared in her amazement when other children explained the magical world to them. When they finally arrived and had been sorted, Blair tried her hardest to make friends. Unfortunately, being herself and making friends didn't really correlate well with each other. After their first few weeks at Hogwarts she found herself being left out by her classmates and felt that they were purposely avoiding her. Missing her friends back home and feeling more lonely than she would ever admit Blair spent almost all her time studying, sending letters back home to her father and her childhood friends and involving herself heavily in quidditch.
Sample Post:
"Are you absolutely sure you have everything; All your school supplies, all your clothing, enough money for the year?" Her father looked nervously around at all the parents saying goodbye to all their children as he gripped her shoulder so tight that it nearly hurt her.All her things had been loaded onto the train and Blair had just stepped off for a moment in order to say goodbye. It pained Blair to see her father so sad, but she blinked back her tears and threw her arms around him and buried her face in his neck. Her entire life it was just the two of them, she could barely even remember her mother. She wanted to cling to him and never leave, she wasn't sure if she'd survive without him.
"I don't have to go" she murmured into his neck. She heard him sigh and felt him grip her arms and remove himself from her grip. She found herself staring face to face as he kneeled down to look at her. It felt like hours before he said anything, and by then Blair was prepared to gather all her belongings off the train and go straight back home with him. She wasn't ready for this. Saying goodbye to the boys from school was hard for her. She was told by her father that she couldn't tell them the truth about where she was going, that they wouldn't accept her; and for the first time in her life Blair had doubted her best friends. Now here they were and Blair was beginning to doubt her father as well, how could he let her go so easily; ten months was a long time.
"Remember what I told you B," he said to her in an oddly high voice, "You're my tough little girl and you don't need anyone but yourself, not even me." Without waiting for her to answer, he stood up, spun her around and Blair could feel his strong grip guiding her towards the train. She thought about fighting him, digging her heels into the ground and refusing to go onto the train. She knew he could feel her doubt and resistance because his grip on her shoulder became tighter, and his push a little harder. "Don't make this hard on me," he whispered, from the tone of his voice she knew he was crying. It was in that moment that Bair knew, he didn't really want her to go. However, they both knew that she had to go ad be the best that she could be. With this newfound confidence she wasn't aware she had, Blair sucked in her breath, took her first step onto the train, turned her head towards him and flashed him a smile.
"Love you daddy," she said before completely entering the train. She wandered through the train until she spotted an open compartment filled with a couple students who looked to be her age. They excitedly invited her in and everyone began talking at once; about their pasts, their wands, their experiences in Diagon Alley. Instead of joining in on the excitement Blair was content with just sitting and listening to all the stories of the wizarding world. Whenever someone asked her a question, she responded politely with a smile and let them continue on with their conversations. The discussion moved onto the Hogwarts Houses and Blair began to lose herself in thought. She wondered what house she would be in; from the descriptions provided by her fellow first years it sounded as if she could fit in any one of them. Blair didn't exactly care about what house she was sorted to, all she wanted was to be sorted, and to have a place where she finaly fit in.
