Name: Edessa Roberts
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Year: 6th
Face Claim: Jayma Mays
Canon or Original? Original
Facial Properties: Edessa Roberts is like someone trapped in a dream. Someone who is respected because of her face. The first thing you notice about her is her big brown fawn eyes, which are complimented by dark eyelashes. When she is surprised she looks like a deer about to be hit by a car. Her hair, usually curled in the front, is a glowing red and she is commonly found stroking or brushing it. She has a face similar to an upside down teardrop. Her lips are naturally a cherry red. Her little button nose is often tweaked (always to her annoyance) by family members, or guys passing her way. Yes, Eddesa is truly like someone in a dream.
Physique: Often Edessa is told that she must be a great runner. She begs to differ. Her slender legs aren’t suited to running any amount of distance from a mile to an inch. Not to mention she only owns one pair of tennis shoes. The rest are heels. It’s hard for her to gain weight and it’s hard for her to pick weights up. She looks small and fragile and they are both true. She has a weak punch that makes people laugh. She isn’t exactly someone to turn to for a bully problem.
Wand Type: Unicorn hair, Maple
Wand Expertise: Charms
Patronus: Deer
Boggart: Werewolf
Personality: Edessa’s most common trait would be her joy. Almost every moment of her life so far she has been either laughing or smiling. She always has happiness to spare and she could make even a goblin crack a smile. It has always come easily to her. Her joy makes her popular and loved by everyone and she won’t stand for any kind of violence among students, even if she can’t really stick up for them by force. Her joy often melts into optimism as she tries to cheer up her friends. Edessa sees to it that no one is upset when she’s around; she even tries to help when she know there’s nothing she can do about it. And that is how she takes care of things.
For Edessa the only thing that she has a chance at beating was her academic scores. Her classes swept by and Edessa is the only one in her classes to get all O’s. Except for one class, Edessa seems academically perfect. That class is Transfiguration. Other than that, Edessa’s wand is part of her. With it she can do anything, except transform something into another. In her classes without her wand, Edessa was even better, especially Herbology. She just loves to get her hands in the dirt and mix things up a bit. In her opinion getting dirty is really fun and Herbology is the best part of her day. Even the Mandrakes, who at first seemed impossible, didn’t bother her at all. With the earmuffs and her friends nearby, she easily tackles it. The only problem she has with any class is tardiness, considering she likes to take her time.
Edessa may seem perfect at first, but as you get to know her you realize she has a problem with anxiety. She bites her nails down to a stub without even realizing it, and she twirls her hair constantly, causing it to knot terribly, which makes her brush it even more than usual. At meals Edessa nibbles her food and worries. Just worries. Not about anything important, just hoping that nothing bad happens. Like she hopes that a tree won’t fall and crash through a window and demolish a fourth of her house. It was an odd mixture, to always be happy but also nervous at the same time. Telling her friends not to worry about something when in her head she’s thinking, “What if they’re right?!” But it never shows. Besides her knotted hair and her stubbed nails, she looks like she doesn’t have a single care in the world.
Usually Edessa is optimistic, but she is also very sensitive. If something bad happens to her or a friend she just crumbles apart. Even if it has nothing to do with her, like if her friend’s beloved family pet dies, she falls apart and cries on their shoulder, even if they haven’t shed a single tear yet. For her, funerals are extremely disastrous because of the tears, and the sad faces, and that aura of death that just seems to hang around. She wants to avoid them and grieve with family at the same time. She can’t help being overemotional, and if she didn’t have to be she wouldn’t be. She is tremendously self-conscious about being so sentimental. But what she lacks in courage, she makes up for in grades. Which suits her just fine.

History:Edessa’s parents, Anne Gorham and Jay Roberts met at a local hotel in London both seeking a place to stay as they had both recently moved out of their homes. After a couple of months, they moved together into a small house near a vacant farm. But after a year passed Jay realized that his newfound wife was acting odd. After he remarked on this (a little more gently than odd) she was cornered and was forced to tell him she was a pregnant witch. Anne was very astonished that her husband was not angry at all. If anything he was delighted that they were going to be a family. He remarked that she was a bit superstitious to be thinking she was a witch just because she was going to be a mother.
The birth of Charlie Roberts was a huge celebration, and the death was an even larger tragedy. After the labor of Edessa, Charlie got sick. Only after a year of life for Edessa, Charlie passed away. To protect their daughter’s sanity they didn’t tell Edessa about Charlie. Anne knew Jay still didn’t believe in magic, being a diehard Christian and all. It didn’t seem to bother him that she always found an excuse to miss church. Anne decided not to tell Edessa about her heritage scared that if Edessa told daddy she was magical, he would know exactly where she got the idea.
Edessa was growing wildly and by the time she was 7 she was the tallest kid in her muggle grade. At a whopping 4 foot 2 inches she was towering over everyone. But things turned around in third grade when she stopped growing, and all the kids around her grew taller leaving her bumping around trying to see through the moving trees. Being often late and missing the start of the lesson, her grades slipped a little. Her parents were not very happy about this but did not stop to think about how it was unusual for a fifth grader to be as tall as a second grader. She seldom thought of it at home when there was much to do. Besides, her family was always taller than her. No one was quite sure how this happened, but oddly enough right before third grade some boy called her a giant freak. Angry she wished she was no longer taller than everyone else, and the following year she stayed low to the ground while everybody else had his or her growth spurt.
Besides her growth stunt, Edessa seemed like a perfectly normal girl. Then Kris Hildebrand came to her school. Kris was the kind of kid that made you want to punch someone in the face. At the point where he said she was a stupid little midget, Edessa had had enough. She was getting a burning red in the cheeks and her face was scrunched up. Kris laughed at her and told her she looked like a total idiot. At that point the bell hadn’t rung yet, and however hard he tried, he couldn’t get his locker open. Then when he had a supervisor open it for him, when he walked away it slammed shut on it’s own with Kris’s finger jammed in it. The following days she was called a loser, freak, shortie, and a late bloomer, and each day something weird and hilarious happened to anyone watching right after he insulted her. It was these little things that led up to the big one.
One morning after Edessa ate breakfast, she heard a sharp pecking sound. She got dressed and went outside to investigate. A little woodpecker was making a nest on her roof. She sighed, remembering her father’s house and yard protection. This would not be okay with him. She barked at it and surprisingly enough that was all she had to do. That bird fell right off that roof. But it was shocked and being a bird had a heart attack the moment sound flew off her lips. It was dead before it hit the ground. Edessa felt her heart skip a beat or two. She killed an actual living thing! Her mind and body were not capable of doing that on purpose, but if you do it on accident it had the same affect on the victim. She walked up to it, picking up a stick on the way and poking it softly, then a little harsher. Then finally she just cried and fell to the ground next to the bird. For some reason beyond her belief, she actually touched the dead thing right next to her body. All her life she had cried when she hurt someone else, if she stepped on a bug in the park she’d burst into tears. But she always refrained from having any sort of physical contact with a deceased body. But at this moment they didn’t seem to apply anymore (limited time only.) As soon as her hand came in contact with the woodpecker it twitched. Edessa had just touched it for a moment, but that was all it needed. The bird was alive again.
As soon as Edessa had the chance she told her mum about the bird incident. Anne swallowed and took a deep breath. Anne’s thoughts were having a conflict at that instant. If she told her ten year-old daughter that she was a witch, she might be happy about it, or she might not be, and if she is surely the girl would tell as many people as she could. Including her father. In the end her mother decided to explain her heritage. Edessa was excited that she could do things like that, and then she thought of something. She could finally get revenge on Kris Hildebrand.
Unfortunately, Edessa could not think of a plan of revenge by her birthday. Soon after she received a life-changing letter summoning her to Hogwarts.
Sample Post: Edessa Roberts was sitting, staring at her pet owl. It hooted at her. Such a boring day it had turned out to be. Usually her mood was good, but boring triumphs every time, especially when you had no friends around to keep you company. All Edessa’s finished homework was stacked in a neat pile that had been nudged and prodded several times. She didn’t want to, but the only thing she could think of was to check her homework, again. She took the effort to get up but stopped as her foot nudged something. She crouched and lifted the bedspread. She pulled out a book. Groaning she dropped it on the floor again. Leave it to her foot to get her hopes up over a book she read too many times. After checking her homework twice more, it was almost a decent time to go to sleep. She thought of going to the library to hang out with her pals, but then she got a worry. She got them constantly so obviously they had to get a name. They really weren’t much to fuss over but they were enough to make you stop and think. Her worry was, What if I get there and it’s after dark? Then I’d have to sneak all the way back here without being caught and knowing me I’d probably just give myself up. Her friends would be back soon, so it would be wise to wait for them here. As each traumatizing minute passed by, Edessa grew more tired.
It wasn’t long before her friends returned from their late library trip. But astoundingly enough her friends were…tired? They abandoned Edessa in her time of need? Why?! With an inward sigh she reread a random book, which turned out to be the worst book in the world, Transfiguration-For beginners. She was trying to memorize as much as she could without burning a hole in the back of her head. Edessa paused for a moment to restart her brain, then went back to studying. After a few moments Edessa threw the book across the room in frustration. She heard a muffled cry of pain as someone met head to book contact. She wondered if she should check on the mystery victim, but exhaustion won over and she fell to sleep before she could mutter a word.
