Dear Future Claude Jon,
This is why you should never be early.
It's not my fault, though, you know. Berger wanted to get out of the house -- apparently his Tribe is gonna attend some British form of a Be-In. I wish I could be there -- it's been too long since I went to one, myself. Ah well, Berger will have fun. And Jeanie should be there, so he can check up on how Meadow's doing! He told me he wanted to spend more time with his daughter, so this will be good for him.
So I don't blame Berger. I could never blame Berger for anything. But he wanted to get out of the house but he also wanted to see me off, so we got here early. Had some difficulty finding my way onto the funky platform ('Nine-and-three-quarters' - kind of righteous, actually), but we saw some unusually-dressed folks, and we just decided to follow them and see where they led us. I don't think they were used to hippies, 'cuz they kept looking at us funny. But eventually we saw them disappear through the barrier in between Platforms 9 & 10, so we figured that was the right place. Berger ran straight at it head-on a second after we decided to give it a go, so I just followed him. And gods above, we were right!
Already, I can tell this is gonna be radically different than New York. Everyone has English accents! I had to stop and take it all in, of course, so I sat down on the sidewalk and started meditating, right there. The few people there gave me looks, I'm sure, but that's alright -- they've never met a hippie before! Oh, future self, I'm going to have so much fun here, I can tell. The Brits are a very nice, welcoming people, I've found, and I'm sure I'll be able to uncover some kindred spirits in Hogwarts. What a funny name, huh? But I like it. Combine two different words that have nothing in common and make something beautiful out of it -- that's life, essentially.
Berger couldn't get enough of the train station. He was talking to anyone who'd give him the time of day while I was meditating. After a good spell, I loaded my bags onto the train in an empty compartment, said good-bye to Berger, and boarded.
And that's where I am right now, future self. I'm sitting at the window, smiling, because I am perfectly at peace with this path. And while I may look out of place in my white blouse, torn bell-bottom jeans, and mother's beads, I already feel like I'm home.
