{ A B O U T . T H E . C H A R A C T E R } Name: Amberlynn Nevaeh Alkali Age: 16 Gender: Female Year: 6th Face Claim: Carrie Underwood
Canon or Original? Original
Facial Properties: Amberlynn has a long, beautiful oval-shaped face. Her eyes are often describes as hazel, though misguiding, as her true color is a soft shade of gold. She normally wears light eyeliner and heavy mascara to accentuate her large, inviting eyes. Her nose is wider, and sometimes gives her unnecessary self-esteem issues. Her complexion is fair and smooth with high, somewhat chubby cheeks. Her smile is warm and inviting, and has been the receiver of many compliments. It suits her well, since she has a natural desire to smile often. Her hair is a shade of light blonde with some highlights and lowlights, and just a bit longer than shoulder length. She used to be asked if she was a fake blonde since her eyebrows are a darker, but over time and learning the patience of answering politely, yes she is a natural light blonde with dark eyebrows. She normally just wears he hair down since it’s curly at the tips, and straightens her bangs to fall over her eyes in a side sweep. On occasion she’ll straighten all of her hair, but she normally just lets it style itself. For being pretty on key with her make-up, she tends to not spend much time with her hair, though it almost always looks like she does. Humidity is her hair’s biggest enemy, because then her cute curls turn into frizzy kinks from hell. But since she lives in a climate averaging low in temperature, she doesn’t have to battle that demon often.
Physique: Amberlynn has a very curvaceous body. She has the large bust, wide hips, and skinny waist, but all in a size bigger model. She’s not the biggest girl, but she’s certainly not the tiniest either. She tends to sit on the ’average’ fence as far as body weight and has a more muscular build than most of her peers. She isn’t physically active per say, she just has a larger muscle mass ratio than the string bean girls. She stands around five foot three inches, give or take. She loves her body; her curves, being a ’healthy’ weight as she puts it. Her wardrobe accentuates he body well. She doesn’t have a favorite color, honestly, she just wears whatever fits right and looks good. She’s one to follow trends if she likes them, or start her own if she feels the need to stand out. The spotlight used to scare her, but now she feeds off the positive attention. Unlike most girls, she’s a big fan of dresses and heels, and will dress up for no reason at all. Knowing she looks good in her outfits gives her a confidence boost that helps her be more outgoing. It’s a quality she didn’t always have, but now can’t live without.
Wand Type: 10 ¾ inch : Cherry Blossom Wood : Phoenix feather string Wand Expertise: Transfiguration and Potions Patronus: A peacock Boggart: Seeing Faith alive, and Amberlynn never being born Personality: Amberlynn could quite possibly have the ‘good girl’ persona. Not to say she doesn’t have her bad qualities just any other person, but she happens to just have a naturally pleasant disposition. She’s the friendly girl who smiles at strangers. A sweet, yet dangerous personality. Amberlynn was raised to be modest and courteous, and always put others before herself. She learned the proper etiquette of eating formally and to always say ‘yes ma’am, yes sir’. Now along with all those qualities she was instilled with, she enjoys being somewhat proper at times. She believes in having a time and place for formal and fun. Many would call it brainwashing, but she honestly doesn’t mind. Her sense of right and wrong as well as morals is one of the biggest driving forces for her nature. She believes in doing the right thing, even if it hurts her. This form of self-sacrifice has left her vulnerable to attack from less than noble intentions. She tends to find herself an easy target for rude gossip or pranks. Though they sometimes wear on her, she tries not to think too hard on why some people are just so cruel.
And speaking of cruelty -- when it comes to boys, Amberlynn is a glutton for punishment. Until recently, she had been self-conscious about her body and appearance. But since her ugly duckling to swan transformation, she has found a lot more attention has been directed at her. She was skeptical at first, but with more and more boosts to her esteem, she has become quite the diamond in the rough. She loves flirting (even if she isn’t always aware she’s doing it) and just talking to boys in general. She actually has more male friends than girls, because the girls tend to get jealous of her ability to just walk up to a random attractive boy and start a conversation. She also gets herself in hot water when she talks to taken guys, of course with no intention of theft, but more than one jealous girlfriend has forbade their man talk to her. As much as she enjoys male company, she has only dated a select few. The few that she has been with, she gave her all, and in the end, she was heartbroken. Though she may have gotten scars, she has too big of a heart to become bitter or resent others. Probably the easiest way to cut Amberlynn deep is to make her fall in love, then rip out her heart, because she is most vulnerable when she honestly loves someone. She would throw herself in front of a hex if she truly felt her boyfriend loved her.
So as you can see, she has naïve tendencies. However, it takes a long time before Amberlynn trusts someone enough to say she ‘loves them’. She has layers of her heart, the outermost is saved for friendship, the deeper layers for true friends, and the deepest corners for those she loves. For as soft as she can be, she tends to keep most people at an arm’s length away. She may be warm and friendly to everyone, but she’s not stupid. She knows when she is being used or her kindness is being taken advantage of. Amberlynn doesn’t call people out though, she tries more of the ghandi approach and avoids violence if possible. It takes a good deal of shoving to get her to even show her anger, and a massive amount to make her snap. Her friends have told her on more than one occasion that she’s actually more fun when her temper flares. Speaking of friends…Amberlynn is one of those ‘floaters’. She doesn’t belong in one specific click per say. She has many friends, fewer good friends, and a select few true friends. True friendship isn’t something she comes by easy. Whether her inability to acknowledge female jealously her lack of desire to befriend a bunch of hormone ridden girls, she usually just does what many people have claimed her of doing -- float.
Amberlynn isn’t the most book smart, but she isn’t inept either. She is fully capable of studying long and hard to get the passing score. Because of being home schooled and her mother having a deep south accent, she developed an unusual accent as well. Her use of double-negatives and deep swooning voice has lead many to believe she’s dumber for some reason. These stereotypes grate on her nerves the worst. She has proven herself many times over that her speech capabilities have no bearing on her intelligence. She is a very smart girl, just not one that has numbers and facts come naturally to her like many super smart peers. Her favorite subject at Hogwarts is transfiguration, but more importantly, she has a natural gift with potions. A subject many of her classmates struggle in, which makes her beam all the brighter when she aces the test. It makes the blow of her almost failure in herbology a lot less painful knowing she’s the top of her class as far as potions. She also has a strong desire to sing. Of course it helps that her voice nearly drowns out everyone else. The second she opens her mouth to sing, she takes control. She likes the feeling, but it also intimidates her. Amberlynn is slowly working on the confidence to sing long solos or even in front of bigger crowds.
Even though she isn’t the most trusting, she is only human. She is the type of girl that would spill her guts if the right questions were asked. She has learned the damage this sort of extreme behavior may cause, but it only stops the spontaneous outbreaks for a short while. In a sense, she’s needy. She isn’t the best girl for keeping emotions to herself. She seeks guidance and help from others, but this sort of weakness has put her on the back burner time and time again. You could say she’s one tough girl, or a very dumb girl that never learns, because no matter the amount of pain she goes through, she always sets herself up to get torn down again. She is good at healing her wounds, but is even better when she has someone to rely on. Whether it be a friend, a crush, or a dirty little gossip hound that is hell-bent on ruining her reputation -- she needs human interaction. In fact, she has gotten bolder and bolder with her crowd of friends. The once prim and proper young lady has been seen at crazy parties. Some say it’s only a matter of time before the good girl goes bad. She has gotten stronger through the years, but will always have the pit in her stomach that screams insecurity. Even now, she is viewed as beautiful, outgoing and headstrong, but behind the pretty face, she has much deeper scars. Scars not even she completely understands.

Amberlynn, just like any other teenage wizard has a past. But that’s all it is. Some people hide theirs, others advertise the unusual and alluring. Amberlynn, however, simply embraces hers. She was born into a half-blood family, or however the ‘elite’ tend to describe similar situations. Her mother was a muggle, avid on her religion and the beauty of life as well as being raised in the deep south in the United States. Her father, was a Hogwarts graduate with the intelligence and disposition to win over Miriam. Her life isn’t much out of the ordinary -- except for the fact she was never meant to be born and in a sense was only a replacement for her dead sister. Totally not weird or unusual. So let’s back up to twelve years prior to Amberlynn’s birth. Her older sister, Faith, was born in London, England in a harsh winter. She was premature, but otherwise seemed like a healthy young girl. She had thick blonde curly hair and bright blue eyes with a smile that could light up a room. Life progressed, and Miriam became aware that her perfect daughter showed the signs of being ‘gifted’ as her father was. She was proud of her daughter and wanted the best for her, so she accepted that Faith would one day leave for Hogwarts. The winter of Faith’s tenth birthday brought tragedy, however, as she rapidly became frail and weak. She carried a fever for days and within a week of her birthday passed away. The doctor’s were stunned by Faith’s extreme turn in health, and never found out the cause.
Miriam and Kieran were distraught. She even went through a heavy depression that almost cost her life. She simply could not understand why Faith would be taken from her at such a young age, but tried desperately to find peace in her religion. They contemplated adoption, but the thought of replacing their beloved daughter caused them too much pain. Ironically, to their surprise, Miriam realized she was pregnant two months later. Hesitant at first, she eventually decided to keep the baby, but knew if she lost one more child, it would kill her. Six and a half months later, Amberlynn was born in the middle of spring. The first time Miriam saw her daughter, she nearly passed out from shock…her new baby girl was an exact resemblance of Faith, except for the eyes. The thick curly blonde hair, fair complexion, and soft face was nearly identical to Faith. However, Amberlynn’s eyes were more oval and a light shade of golden-honey. Miriam wanted to call her daughter (she never referred to her as her second), Nevaeh, but decided on Amberlynn to please Kieran. From the day of Amberlynn’s birth, her life was carefully placed in a protective bubble from the rest of the world.
She was literally watched every step of the way, from both a mixture of paranoia from her parents and a deep love that she didn’t understand at the time. Her mother and father saw their first perfect child die before their eyes, now, they had been blessed with a near perfect replica of their past life…but something was off. They knew this from the beginning. No matter how hard they tried, Amberlynn would never be Faith. This unnerved Miriam, but Kieran was able to separate the life of his first daughter, and Amberlynn’s. Miriam was not so giving. She dressed Amberlynn in Faith’s old clothes, fed her Faith’s favorite foods even though Amberlynn didn’t quite have the same love for mashed peas as her sister. She even caught herself cooing to Amberlynn saying “it’s alright baby girl, momma’s here Faith”. As an infant, this had no bearing on Amberlynn since she doesn’t remember the early memories. But the older she grew, the more constricted she felt. It was though she was not allowed to express herself, instead, her mom, whom she loved dearly but didn’t understand, called all the shots. She started to rebel a little, but when she saw how much it hurt her mom when she rejected the ‘ugly red dress’, she swallowed her freedom and put it on. The tortured face of her unglued mother was enough to make her promise herself never to let mom down again.
When Amberlynn turned ten, her mom all but had a mental breakdown. That was the first time she ever found out she had a sister, or rather, was the replacement for a sister she had never known. The pieces started fitting together in a jagged, messed up family picture. After she passed her first week of her tenth birthday, her controlling mother took another turn down depression alley. Suddenly, Amberlynn was older than Faith ever would be. The fear of the unknown scared Miriam silly. Her grip on Amberlynn got even tighter, more controlling. She no longer had a guide to how to raise Amberlynn so she just stepped up the stranglehold parentage skills. When Amberlynn received her owl acceptance into Hogwarts, she was elated as well as her father. Her mother, though deep down was happy, seemed indifferent to the news. This gave Amberlynn a wave of doubt and anxiety, along with the fact she had never really been raised around other children. She had been home schooled up until now, and honestly didn’t have any friends her age. Even her cousins were given visitation hours, so she was undoubtedly socially behind. This scared her, but the thought of leaving her house for an entire school year proved more fruitful than her fears.
At first, Amberlynn’s experience at Hogwarts was undeniably the worst thing ever. She was overshadowed by more boisterous children, picked on for her weight (she was a chunky little girl), and relentlessly chastised for her accent and use of double-negatives. She hated Hogwarts so much, she sometimes wished she could just stay home. She was the good girl with manners that never did anything she wasn’t supposed to. She was a bore and a social misfit. Amberlynn completely dropped off the radar for the first four years of her life at Hogwarts. The beginning of her fifth year, however, she came back to Hogwarts with a complete transformation. Not only did she hit puberty, she also lost weight, built up her self-confidence, and had a brand new attitude. None of this was on a whim either. Her growing tensions at home finally exploded after a fight with her mother. After being told she “would never be good enough, Faith was a far better daughter than you”, Amberlynn snapped. She was tired of being compared to her long dead sister that never made it past ten, so how the hell would her mother know if Faith was the better daughter? The shell she built around herself crumbled into little pieces as she took pride in the way she looked. Her smile widened, and she swore to herself that she was done being a nobody.
Everyone thought she was a new girl and she almost could have passed for one if she changed her name. It was easy to through the awkward past behind though, no one remembered anything about her before anyway. She took up a more fulfilling social life, and even started singing for the school choir. Her passion for music bloomed as she finally found something she was good at. With her sweltering new ego, she even managed to date a few boys here and there, but never anything serious enough to bring up to her parents. Her quick jump to the social network managed to find her enemies, something she was never accustomed to having. She didn’t understand the rude gestures, and found herself the butt of jokes on more than one occasion. Though the ignorance eventually wore off, she kept her head high and pretended not to notice the unpleasant rumors. Now in her sixth year, the girl that was once plastered to the side of the wall is now stepping into the spotlight, and demanding the attention she has been neglected from for so long.

Her fists tightened into small little knuckles of pure white as her eyes danced from the bookshelf to her mother. They moved so quickly, it felt like an uncontrollable twitch rather than a human movement. She bit down hard on her lip, trying desperately to withhold the burning anger growing in her chest. It felt like a rabid bird bouncing off her ribs as they confined it to the deep depths of her body. Her eyes lingered on the face of her mother, noting the details -- the wrinkles under her face, the harsh lines her lips pursed into, the coldness that had once again replaced the kindness she was capable of having. Amberlynn resented the woman standing in front of her. An emotion she rarely felt, but as of lately had been festering in her mind like an infected wound. Why couldn’t she see? Why didn’t she see what she was doing to the family, to her?. She blinked back fiercely, trying to erase any traces of salty betrayers.
”Momma, why can’t you just leave it alone?” her voice pleaded in a soft coo. ”I ain’t like those other girls, I’m not going to disappoint you ‘er do anything stupid, I just wanna have fun…is that so bad?”
The second she asked, she knew she was going to get a backlash. Her mother’s head snapped towards her so quick she was afraid her frail neck might break. ”Don’t you EVER tell me what to do Amberlynn. I am still your mother, even if I rarely ever see you.” Amberlynn recoiled at the heat in her mother’s voice, hurt and stunned by what was being implied. Was she still bitter over Amberlynn going to Hogwarts? After all these years, she was still angry? Or was it because she was able to, and F--, no. She wouldn’t dare think that name. She had no place in her thoughts. She already had to deal with being a replacement in her mother’s eyes, she’d be damned if she’d let a remnant make her any more guilty. With a new wave of animosity, she threw her attention back at her crazy mother. ”I’m going tomorrow ma, I’m almost fifteen, I can take care of myself.” She intended the words to sound final and confident, but they came out more like a mouse on steroids.
Her mother’s hawk eyes burned a hole into her face as she seemed to close the distance of the kitchen in a matter of seconds. She grabbed her Amberlynn by the shoulders and spat the next words, ”I’ll be damned if I see my daughter go hitchhiking around London. It ain’t safe there, too many old men wanting to look at you…” she bit back her words as tears started flowing down her cheeks. For a second, she looked helpless, weak even. Her fingers let go of their grip and slumped to her side as her body heaved from the sobs. Amberlynn felt compelled to comfort her bipolar mother, even though she really wanted to correct her that ‘hitchhiking’ was not what they were doing. Shopping. Simple shopping. ”It’s all right momma, I’ll be safe, I promise” she whispered as she hugged her mother. The second their skin touched, her mother stiffened, but only slightly. Through broken sobs, her mother whimpered ”Why can’t…you…be…like…her. She’d…never….put…through…this. My baby…Faith…baby.” Like a slap in the face, Amberlynn stepped back and broke their embrace.
Anger spilled back into her chest and came up her throat like hostile vomit. ”Why can’t you just let her go momma? I AIN’T FAITH! I’m your daughter now, she ain’t comin’ back! She’s DEAD momma. She’s never comin’ back and I can’t pretend to be her anymore! Why can’t you love me for who I am? I’m your daughter too damnit!” She gasped for breathe as she took another step back. She watched her mother’s body shake violently before becoming deathly still. Her eyes became black coals as she scowled at her daughter. ”Don’t you ever compare yourself to Faith, you’ll never be as good of a daughter as her.” Salty tears poured down Amberlynn’s face as she turned and raced for the door. The screen door slammed shut as she ran as fast as her legs would take her away from their old country house. The sound of her beating heart and the blood pulsing in her ears was the only thing she heard for miles…and miles.
