{ A B O U T . T H E . C H A R A C T E R } Name: Frank Wesley Longbottom Age: Eighteen Gender: Male Year: Graduated last year Face Claim: Chris Pine <3
Canon or Original? Canon, baby
Facial Properties: Frank has light brown hair that he usually keeps cropped short. His eyes are a deep light blue color that usually express his emotions, yet are most of the time in good spirits; these he inherited from his father and his father before that, he's constantly reminded by his family members.
He has a straight, eye to ear nose that wrinkles slightly when he laughs. His smile is winning and bright, and makes his whole face light up when it's present. His teeth, after some modifications at the dentist's, are pearly white and all in a straight, perfect order. Frank has the slight foreshadow of a stubble and a mustache that he keeps shaved, but nothing can be done about the shadow. It gives him the appearance of being slightly older than he would usually look, with his cute, youngish face.
Physique: Tall, and slender, yet with good muscles, Frank has always had the perfect build for a Quidditch player, which is what he became in his third year at school. He likes to dress according to his mood, and it usually reflects it very precisely. Frank's wardrobe varies from button-up shirts to jumpers and T-shirts. He always wears jeans or thin pants that are not too warm, and has a tendency to never be cold. The most he'll wear on a cold winter night would be a jumper and a scarf. No mittens, no hat, no woolly coat.
When he is feeling light and happy, he tends to wear light-colored shirts, in yellows, or whites, which he accompanies with a contagious, side to side smile. Say he is in a bad mood, or just doesn't feel like bothering about anything, he'll wear neutral colors like brown, grey, or black.
His day-to-day apparel would be in the red tones, which happens to be his favorite color, and also Gryffindor house pride, even after having left school, or if the weather is leaning towards chilly, blues or greens. This tendency to dress according to the mood is something that everyone who knows him well can figure out, and therefore know what he'll be acting like before he speaks.
Wand Type: Chimaera Scale, 111/2 Ash, rigid Wand Expertise: Works best for hexes and charms Patronus: An eagle Boggart: A toad; a huge, slimy, beady-eyed toad. Personality: Generally good-natured and bright, Frank has always won every long-distance aunt over. He is usually laid-back and joking, when he is in his comfort zone, and loves to socialize. Frank has an ease for making friends with lots of girls and guys, and is even suave with girls, but only when they're friends-only. When it comes to asking somebody he likes out, he gets tongue-tied and his hands start to sweat and he blushes and can't remember what he was going to say. He's been continuously teased about that by his friends his entire life. One of the things Frank fears most is rejection, which is why he rarely, if ever, asks a girl out on a date, and if he does, it's casual and more friendly than romantic. Although Frank is extremely self-confident and knows what he wants in life, when it comes to girls, he is like another person.
One of the things he most likes to do is read, and act. He has never had much opportunity to act in life, so that pastime is never really put into good use for him, and is just something he secretly loves to do, because, according to his father and uncle, acting is for pansies. It was enough for him never to mention it in public. Ever. Reading, though, was always strongly encouraged by his aunts and mother, and as it being something he likes to do out of pleasure, not obligation, his collection of books at home is large and varied. In classes, Frank was the type of guy to listen to the teacher, take notes when it's important, and do the spells right on the first five tries. He was not an excellent student, but he averages good grades and doesn't feel the need to do more than that. His NEWTS average was an E, with two O's in DADA and Herbology, and an A in potions. Perseverance, though, has always been one of Frank's best strengths, therefore, if he was not happy about a grade he was getting, he'd work until he got better. Most of his teachers liked him enough, and not one did he get on the bad side of.
Frank is an amazingly loyal person, and will stay true to all that he believes in and that he feels the need to protect. If somebody is doing something wrong, he'll usually inform them, and he will never, ever stand and see somebody he cares about be offended or insulted in any way. Apart from his compulsive need to defend himself and his friends, Frank is really a passive person, and his temper doesn't ignite often, which is to say something. He'll usually try to ignore the bad side of things and look at the bright side of them, which is an excellent trait for a teenager to have. His defensiveness, though, has often gotten him into unnecessary and ridiculous fights with his friends, though none have ended up in a physical argument, hence Frank's passive resistance.
He loves a good joke, and exceedingly admires a certain foursome of guys that were in his year, for their excellent pranks and the aura of good humor and laughter that they created wherever they went. Although he does admire them and thinks their jokes and pranks are hilarious, Frank hates any sort of bullying, which is something two of the four exceed at. Usually, though, Potter and Black bully people he doesn't particularly like, and therefore doesn't feel the need to defend them. Frank is also a very impatient guy, but despite it, his lack of bravery when it comes to asking girls out wins over.
Franks' roommates were nearly always complaining about his lack of organization and order in his side of the room. Although he is not irresponsible, Frank tends to lose things in his mess, and he's never really done anything about it, either. His bed always has clothes strewn across, and his trunk used to always be left open at Hogwarts, books and robes and such spilling out of it. Under his bed you could find unused books, scraps of homework that he never found and had to re-do, owl droppings that he has no idea how they got under there, and torn magazines from who knows when or where. Now that he’s living on his own, the place is a little bit tidier than it would have been if he were still seventeen, but just because if he doesn’t place order, nobody will.
Another one of Franks' most enjoyed pastimes is to observe people's characters and personalities. Frank is a strong believer against first impressions, and although it is physically impossible for a human being not to make a first impression, Frank has it decided that he will never judge somebody one way or another before he got to really know what the person was like. Most of the time, he is right in his observations, and has some people characterized spot-on, but other times, when he is not as careful, he ends up being completely wrong about somebody.
Likes: + Quidditch + Reading + Acting (under strong dissuasion from family) + Jokes + People who don't feel the need to attract attention + Herbology + Defense Against the Dark Arts + Observing other people + The fireplace + Swimming (in the great lake or otherwise) + Courage + A good self-esteem + Perseverance
Dislikes: – Oppression – Bullying – Chocolate – First impressions – Two-faced people – Backstabbing – Jealousy - Toads – Shopping for gifts – His own impatience – His own disorganization – Mornings
History: Frank was born on November 20th, 1958, to the loving arms of Augusta and Theodore Longbottom. They had always wanted a child, and when he arrived on their front door, it was a blessing from God, to them. He was raised near Yorkshire, in his parents’ house of no mean size, by a very strict and responsible mother, whom he loved dearly, and who loved him even more. His father, on the other hand, was more laid back than his wife, but made sure that Frank got the education he needed to get into the best school of magic in the world, or so he said, Hogwarts. His first signs of magic appeared when he was only three years old, very early in his life for some of the people in the magical community, but all the better for his overjoyed parents. His father, being a Quidditch fanatic, bought him his first broomstick at the age of five, and taught Frank 'all he needed to know to be the best player on the team'. Of course, as much as Frank always loved Quidditch, he was never as huge of a fan as his father was. He always preferred a good picture book, or staying hours in the swimming pool until his fingers and toes were all wrinkly. Augusta's older brother, Frank's uncle Algie, was Frank's favorite uncle. He made the best impressions of celebrities and politicians, told the funniest jokes, and gave Frank the best presents. It was on Frank's seventh birthday that he met his biggest fear. Uncle Algie gave him a small, square box as a present. Eagerly, Frank had opened it, and had found nothing. He was disappointed at first, but then when he looked up to question his uncle, the man told him to turn around. Frank was still holding his dad's present, the newest broomstick available, when he turned and saw the scariest thing a seven year old could witness. It was a toad. A slimy, ugly, red-tongue lolling out toad, magnified in proportion times ten. The giant toad turned its beady eyes on Frank and with one swift motion of its tongue, snatched the broom away from the boy, and swallowed it whole. Frank erupted into uncontrollable tears, and Uncle Algie had to return the toad to its normal size. Enough said, Frank was toad-traumatized for life, and Uncle Algie returned the toad to the shop regretfully, for he'd always thought it was an excellent pet.
When Frank turned eleven, he got his acceptance letter from Hogwarts. His mother and father could not have been more overjoyed. There were hugs, kisses, parties, whole family celebrations, dinners, and lots of presents. Although the love for him in his family life was overwhelming, Frank never turned out a spoiled child, mostly because his mother forbid him to, and made sure that he knew what was right, what was wrong, and what really matters in life. He went with both of his parents to get all of his school supplies (and had to endure a half-hour ranting by his father when he discovered that the no-broom-for-first-years rule still applied), and returned home carrying tons of new books, cauldrons, quills of all shapes and sizes, and a brand new owl to send and receive mail with while he was at school. Tails, his golden retriever, was not happy at all at the arrival of this new species in his territory, and Frank constantly had to move the owl, which he'd named Hoot, to a higher place every night, in order to keep Tails from gobbling him up. September 1st arrived, and with lots of tears and hugs and promises to write, he boarded the Hogwarts Express alone, with his trunk and his owl in a cage.
He got to the magnificent castle, which turned out to be much more than he'd expected, and was immediately sorted into Gryffindor. In that house, he spent his first six years of Hogwarts being a good student, averaging E marks, and making lifelong friendships. During his last year at Hogwarts...Frank managed to ask out Alice Longbottom, his best girl friend and the girl whom he’d had a crush on for the past five years of his life, and it was the worst date in the history of dating, ever. She tried to kiss him, he freaked out, and she ended up sleeping with Sirius freaking Black (things between him and Sirius were never really the same after that), and dating him. Heartbroken, Frank dated Lucy Murphy for a while, then they broke up, and at Graduation Day of all days, he and Alice got into a huge horrible fight, and they haven’t spoken since. But, like he vowed to himself last year, Frank’s New Year’s resolution shall be to win Alice over, somehow; because he just can’t let go of a love like that.
Frank graduated with grades good enough to be able to fight well, and he joined the Order of the Phoenix, a society of people against the coming danger of You-Know-Who, and he’s willing to stand up for everything he believes in, even if it costs him his life. Some other guys and girls from Hogwarts joined as well, so he’s not alone, and although it’s every day a life or death situation, he actually likes what he’s doing, because he feels proud of it.
