C H A P T E R • O N E


• • • b r e a t h e • • •

- regulus black - regular thread - Claire is out by the river caught up in daydreams when she notices that she's not alone. Of all the people to find on the farm, she never would have expected to see another witch or wizard. And she certainly never would have expected to see Regulus Black. She's more curious than nervous and doesn't think to leave. Perhaps she really should have, seeing as the first thing he tries to do when he sees her is kill her. Realizing in a split second that he thinks she's a muggle, Claire shouts that she's a squib. It's a lie but she's too embarrassed to tell him that she's a Hufflepuff. A furious Regulus decides that if he can't kill a muggle, he might as well torture a squib and Claire quickly finds herself thrown into the most terrifying situation of her life. But he eventually grows bored and leaves, just before her sister finds her. Claire should be scared but she doesn't see him as having nearly killed her. Instead, she believes that as he could have killed but didn't, he has saved her life. And become firmly planted in her mind and dreams.

- illiana rayne - owl thread - Cooped up inside after her family believes she fell out a tree while climbing, Claire writes to her good friend Illiana Rayne to see how the other's summer is going. Though of course, she doesn't mention the whole "falling out of a tree" thing seeing as that's not even the true story. Instead, the two girls talk about how much they miss Hogwarts and everyone and each other and how they simply must visit each other soon. It's just too weird not seeing each other every day!

- rose darwin - regular thread - It's a nice, sunny day and Claire goes to Diagon Alley with her sister, Steffy. After all, there's no way her parents are letting her out alone, still too worried about her after her "accident." So the two sisters grab some ice cream at Florean's - strawberry for Claire, of course - and are sitting about in the shade when Claire spies her good friend from school, Rose! After much wheedling and begging, Steffy allows her to go and spend time with her friend, as long as she's back in an hour. Claire runs to catch up with Rose and the two giggly ramblers talk about their summers, Rose's adorable new haircut, some of their mutual friends, their favorite ice cream flavors, babies, and well, everything really! When you talk so much, it's certainly possible!

- juliette benoit - regular thread - Claire finds herself back in Diagon, this time accompanied by her mother as they head to Madam Malkin's to by some new robes for Claire, who's getting a bit annoyed at not being allowed to go anywhere by herself 'cause her parents are too worried about her health. But she feels too guilty about the fact that she lied to them - that apparently all she ever does lately is lie - so she puts a smile on. She's in Diagon after all, she should happy. Especially when she bumps into another student from Hogwarts, Juliette. Jules seems upset about something and the two girls end up sneaking off to a coffee shop around the corner to chat.

- regulus black - regular thread - Claire does something she knows might be a bad idea but can't help: she seeks out Regulus. For some reason, she just needs to find him, needs to see him. She's spent most of her summer thinking about him, stuck on what happened and what he did to her, but knows almost nothing about the boy himself. So she heads down to the Quidditch pitch, hoping to find him there but still surprised when she actually does.

- professor babbling & other students - regular thread (class thread) - Claire's in a day-dreaming mood as she arrives at her Ancient Runes class, something not unusual for her in the slightest. Nonetheless, she finds herself reminding herself to focus. Hey, it's the beginning of the year and it's always best to get off on a foot by paying attention to what the professor - or at least trying your best? In any case, it's good to see friendly faces like Emme again.

- jonathan dorny - regular thread - Claire brings her work outside on a sunny Saturday morning and ends up doing much more relaxing than work. She's startled out of almost-sleep by Jon Dorny, a fellow Hufflepuff new to the school she's never talked to before, but certainly doesn't mind, as she finds him so interesting to chat with.

- davey fisher - note thread - Claire passes notes in class with another student, Davey, who she gets along with immediately. The two of them share jokes and laugh, making an otherwise boring class so much more enjoyable.

- emmeline vance - owl thread - Claire responds to a sign-up sheet Emme sends out in hopes of recruiting some cheerleaders from the Hufflepuff squad she's the Head of. Claire thinks it's a great idea and would love to join.

- gabriella rivera - regular thread - Claire runs into Gabby in the common room and notices that the other girl is reading a book that she's read before. Without thinking, she comments on how great is is, before remembering a certain part that was a little, uh, mature and both girls find themselves suddenly embarrassed and blushing.
