{ A B O U T . T H E . C H A R A C T E R } Name: Eleanor Larsella Linwood Age: Sixteen Gender: Female Year: Sixth Face Claim: Alex Bardenfleth
Canon or Original? original
Facial Properties: Eleanor has always had a rather naïve look to her. It would have to be in her eyes. She wishes for the life of her that she could have Everett’s eyes, but she thinks it’s a terribly shame for them to be so wasted. Unlike his, hers gentle and welcoming, but it appears that genes make them seem a bit cold, as if they want to be kept at a distance. From first impressions, just by looking at her, she certainly looks as if she could be quite dim-witted. She hates it about herself. Eleanor isn’t one to annoy easily, but unintelligent people quite often do the trick. She would think it an insult to call her idiotic. She has a rather long and narrow face, and unfortunately for her she has seemed to inherit the Linwood family nose. It could quite possibly be one of the things she hates about herself. She considers herself lucky, however, that there would be only one thing she would change. It has come through years and years of knowing thyself and becoming more secure. Don’t get her wrong, she still has her insecurities. Make any mention of her nose and she immediately becomes sour. She’ll give you one of a number of her faces, and of course this one wouldn’t be pleasant.
And then there is her hair. It would seem that one thing Eleanor cannot keep under control is her hair. She has no inkling of an idea what to do with it. It’s been a problem that has followed her for years though. She was born with the blackest hair anyone had ever seen. It mellowed out when she was a child, but then went right back around and turned dark brown. It was always thick and unruly, never tamable. It is quite possibly the most distinctive aspect of Eleanor. For such a clean and neat, tamable girl, it is a bit ironic, but it’s a piece of irony that Eleanor much appreciates. Cutting it short was never an option. It would, literally, be like having a bush on top of her head. So instead she has insisted on keeping it long, no matter how hard that makes it for her.
Physique: Like her brother, Eleanor has been blessed to be a bit on the taller side. She’s no six footer, that’s for sure, but she isn’t quite at her mother’s lower level. As if it was destined to be in accordance with her personality, she is in the terrible middle of them both. At 5’8” she couldn’t wish for anything better. It was awkward when she was younger, no doubt, but things got better, as they seemed they would. Her mother would tell her over and over again that things would get better, and the boys would one day catch up. She didn’t see why it would have to be that way. She hated the attention, and it wasn’t as if it was all super positive. Being the scrawny, tall girl at fourteen was always what it was cracked up to be. Over the next couple of years she evened out. She still has bit of chicken wing look to her arms, but they’re slowly evening out like the rest of her. However, she wonders from time to time if it’s not just purely fat starting to build up.
Wand Type: Eleven inches, Rowan wood, with a centaur tail hair. Wand Expertise: Absolutely exceptional at Potions. Patronus: A Fawn. By far the best animal to describe Eleanor. She’s rather lithe like they are, and although she wouldn’t think so, graceful. Eleanor could only dream of creating a patronus, and don’t think she hasn’t tried. It’s in her book of goals-which really does exist
Boggart: Eleanor is the farthest thing from fearless. She fears anything from rejection to speaking in public to miniscule things such as spiders. However, the thing she fears most, and the thing that has haunted her for much of her childhood is the thought of being lost. Perhaps it was not only the thought of being lost, but the thought of being vulnerable and alone. She could quite possibly handle being vulnerable, but the thought of fighting her battles by herself terrifies her. Personality:
PEACE KEEPER To be frank, Eleanor suffers from “Middle Child Syndrome”. Between her cold, and unmoving older brother, and her sassy, impertinent younger sister, Eleanor has spent the majority of her time trying to find a balanced middle. Because of this, Elle has always seen herself as the peacekeeper. It doesn’t matter if it’s family, friends, or arbitrary people in her crossing; Eleanor steps in as judge if there is a quarrel. She’s an ambassador of sorts, and she hates messes. And, when asked, she would gladly give her opinion on any sort of matter. Bluntly. For such a sweet, well-mannered girl, she can sometimes come across as brusque, for which she means not. She’ll tell you if you’re wrong and above that she won’t be afraid to correct you. Eleanor does not worry about who you are, or what you’re about. She knows no boundaries when it comes to this. It’s probably one of the many things that puts her in such a vulnerable position, but she would gladly sacrifice for the good of what she thinks she is serving.
MILD Above all though, Eleanor ‘s personality somewhat resembles a mouse. In a manner of speaking. Most days, she’s modest and easy going. However, if you were to ever say that she looked like a mouse she would make the most dreadful, annoying face at you. She wouldn’t ask you to take it back, it’s your opinion, but she would not, even if she could, control her reaction towards it. Not that her reactions are completely uncontrollable, she is in fact a very mild person and her reactions are equally so, but she has a hard time restraining the negative feedback that at times can be completely transparent on her face. The trick to Eleanor is that her first thought is not spoken, but shown. It’s something to look for. However, her reactions don’t matter much to her. They wouldn’t, naturally. The only person who really has to worry about her reactions are the people that experience them, and she’ll spend moments of wasted breath convincing you that what she’s saying is true, not her face.
PASSIVE When Eleanor does get angry, it doesn’t last. She wished that it would, really. It would make things so much more fun if she could have the person beg her for forgiveness. For Eleanor it’s actually not so much a habit as it is a natural reaction. Elle doesn’t have the capacity to stay irritated, nor the time. There is no point in staying angry at someone she says. She doesn’t hold grudges against people, and never will she let things fester inside. She’s a counselor of sorts and she likes to talk things out. If a person has hurt Eleanor, she’ll bring it up because she’s not a afraid to be frank. She would much rather make the person feel bad, if they have that capacity, by “killing them with niceness”. Once again, for a girl so pleasant it would be hard to think of her having a dark side, which obviously if her “meanness” is making a person feel bad by killing them kindness then she clearly has no dark side. Very slowly, she’s starting to get a bit more bold in her speaking and acting. Don’t put it past her to snap though. She has yet to do it, and after sixteen years of being told what to do and not getting angry it’s bound to happen.
REALISTIC AND PRYING Despite being somewhat passive in her thinking, one would think that she is merely an optimistic individual who believes that they good in someone will lead him or her to apologize. However, Eleanor cannot decide if she sees the good in everyone. She’s more realistic about life than she lets on. Some people are incapable of being good, she figures as much, but at the same time a part of her wants to believe that somewhere in a person there is a soft spot in their core. A place where if hit just right, all doors can open. Elle wants to be let inside, and she wants to know all she can about a person. In spite of it being rendered as an act of kindness, Eleanor is generally curious about the person at hand. Elle wants to know what makes a person tick. This peculiarity can no doubt come from the innate nature of wanting to help people with their problems. Over the years, she has taken on the role of listener in her family. She handles the problems and sorts them out. Minor, yes they may be, but at every problem there is a common root. She doesn’t ever expect people to change, that would be the last thing she wants, but if it would help, she would gladly offer her unwanted or wanted assistance.
ROMANCTIC If there is one thing that Eleanor can’t resist, other than a good love story, it’s a sweet talker. Sweet talking won’t necessarily get you into Eleanor’s skirt, but it doesn’t hurt. She would like to say that she’s strong when it comes to men, but in all honesty she melts when she hears a nice string of words complimenting her. She thinks it a good thing for a male to know how to address her. Eleanor isn’t one to fall every time, there are some times when she knows a compliment is being delivered just so that the male can get some. Despite feeling a bit awkward and uncomfortable, she’ll do her best to politely and graciously let him off easy. You have to be smooth with Eleanor. She won’t give in to just anyone. She may fall, and hard, over and over again, but when it comes to her reputation and chastity she quite frankly would rather keep it untainted. But she knows what she likes, and if determined enough, she’ll go after it, no matter the cost.
PRIDE AND INTELLIGENCE If Eleanor ever had a pride issue, it was her astuteness, her intelligence. Eleanor may be pleasant, and nice, and easy going, but if Eleanor thinks she knows it, Eleanor knows it. She’ll take the chance of being wrong for the victory of being right. It’s safe to say that, yes, Eleanor can act like a know it all. But that’s her problem; she wants to know it all. Everything significant that is. She wants to know about everything that can possibly go on in this world, and before anyone else can. She can be a bit competitive inside. On the outside, she would rather not voice it, but on the inside her competitive nature is her source of motivation. She gets very easily annoyed with another person if they beat her at something and she knows very well that she should have been the one to “win” (whatever the winning may entail). For her brother, it’s studying that allows his head to stay above water, but for Eleanor, if she feels she has to study then she cracks and goes into a frenzy. She wants to be able to have to ability of context and anyone who actually has that given aptitude will receive a bit of Eleanor’s jealousy. She likes to think of herself as exceptionally talented in the areas of potions and charms. The latter being her favorite to play with.
OBSERVER Like her brother, she would much rather observe people than interact with them. However, unlike her brother, she would happily welcome the presence of anyone wanting to be in her company. It’s hard to say whether Eleanor will be the outgoing one. As mentioned, she likes to observe, and that can’t possibly be done very well if she’s in the middle of a conversation with people. She would listen to people, than talk to them, help them with their problems. Eleanor has no real experience with turmoil and disappointment because she has had a rather blessed childhood, but one thing Eleanor can do is empathize. She takes pride in her strong empathy. This is probably the main reason she thinks she is so incredible at giving advice.

History: To her, her mother and father’s story is rather unoriginal. He was a muggle, she was a witch and they fell in love and got married. Her father was rather successful at what he did, and the two children, at the time, attended their pricey day schools before they received their letters to Hogwarts. Everyday, Eleanor and Everett would walk to school together and walk home. When they were younger, their mother would accompany them there and back. It wasn’t even a year after they were allowed to go off with one another that Everett received his letter. It was a surprise, not shocking, but a surprise. To Eleanor’s mother, when a witch marries a muggle it’s a gamble. Eleanor has yet to find if her mother’s theory is correct but she prayed that if Everett was a wizard, than she would be too. Everett was always an awkward older brother. And he still is. When they were younger, he would sign her up for the most foolish positions. Eleanor, too naïve to even know what anything meant, would gladly volunteer her services. She was very fond of him and anything to get his approval was necessary. Eleanor still feels as if it’s the same today as it was all those years ago.
It was the same with her parents as well. Eleanor always sought to be approved of. She never wanted to hurt anyone’s feelings or upset anyone. And as mentioned, there were a number of times that she served as peacekeeper. It should come as no surprise, but Everett was rather rebellious when he came home from Hogwarts. It was petty, she would tell him constantly, but at the same time she couldn’t help but feel sympathy for her brother. He was a bit… misunderstood. On top of that, their father wasn’t exactly a family man all of the time, and their mother was extremely needy. It wasn’t that her father was the typical workaholic, but when he was home, there was hardly any laughter coming from him. Eleanor would never say anything to him, but she often always saw Everett when she looked at him. He had the ability to love, but perhaps wasn’t open to it all of the time. She didn’t know. All Eleanor knew was that time after time should would try to dissect her family and she often found herself between all of them. Cal was usually on her own in her own little world. By the time life got hard for her, she would practically be an only child.
From what Eleanor knows of her mother’s parents, they were both wizarding beings. Gretle and Henry Starcher were wizards that could possibly trace their lineage quite far back in history. Because of her grandfather, genealogy has been a pastime of Eleanor’s. She finds every aspect of it quite thrilling. But that is Eleanor for you; the studious girl can find anything thrilling if she wants it to be. When she and Everett were younger they spent a great deal at their grandparents’ houses. On the wizarding side, they were free who they knew they were. It was at their house where each of the children, Everett, Eleanor, and Cal, were able to discover their magic. While Everett was off playing quidditch with their cousins, Eleanor and Henry were off in the library studying up on the family. There was always a story to tell and no matter what, someone always had a rather interesting back-story. The back-stories were all that Eleanor cared for. Her family had everything possibly involved with them. There were volumes on everything from crazy pureblooded wrenches to muggles to family executions because they decided they could.
What they did when they were children was nothing short of prohibited in the Linwood household. Everett, who from the day he was born had a disregard for rules, had Eleanor breaking all sorts of rules for his entertainment. And naturally, as it was set up, she was the one who ended up in trouble. Finally at the age of seven, she had come to an age where his game no longer worked. Still seeking and wanting his approval, she would do whatever he wanted her to do. He would give her the plan and she would act it out. But instead of taking the blame time after time, Eleanor found a way to slink out of the trouble that would soon be hers. It became frustrating to Everett, she could tell, but about that same time he was finding other ways to entertain himself. And also at that same time, they had a younger sister, Calliope. Even now Eleanor thinks that he name is completely and utterly irrational. Cal was born six years after Everett, if her math is correct, and four after her. Eleanor had never been one for attention until that day, when she suddenly realized that she would now be getting none. She always had attention, she didn’t have a use for it. She never resented her young sister, but she knew that, obviously, her days as being the cute youngest child were over. She found herself craving more and more attention from anyone: her working father, her baby-crazed mother, or her distant brother who had once been so dear to her before. One would expect a child to starve and go mad, but Eleanor had never been one for theatrics, and she learned how to entertain herself independently.
By the time her independence set in, it was time for Eleanor to sail off to Hogwarts. She saw Everett leave two years before her, and as any sibling would, she could only imagine the time he was having and what he was doing. Before they were to leave, Everett narrated everything he could to his younger sister. He told her everything from the houses to the professors to her books and subjects. She knew a great deal about the house of Slytherin, naturally (as he was placed into that one in particular) and then the other houses fell in line. While Everett was in Slytherin, Mrs. Linwood was in Ravenclaw. Eleanor felt the pressure to succeed in any of the two. She knew not of the others. Through her mother’s side of the family, she was known, despite being undercover in a muggle world most of her life.
Sample Post: Will any of Everett’s do?
