It was almost funny how quickly time seemed to go by, how it seemed to speed past you at faster rates the older and older you got. Had they not just been starting a new year not too long ago? And now it was September all over again and they were already a few weeks into the month. Albus Dumbledore shook his head as he sorted the essays on his desk, straightening them into a neat pile before reaching for his wand. He pointed it at the pile and, with a little swish and flick, levitated it into the air and sent the essays off around the classroom, each one landing on the respective student's desk. He let them continue to talk amongst themselves for a moment before pointing his wand toward the door at the back of the classroom. It shut quickly, with a noise that was enough to grab almost everyone's attention. A faint smile creased his face. "Since you've arrived at Hogwarts," he began suddenly, but slowly, almost as if he was talking to himself, "You've been taught many different spells. But today, you need to rethink everything that you've learned, approach it from a different angle. You're going to be attempting to use magic non-verbally. I want you to pair up and take turns trying to use the Expelliarmus spell without speaking it out loud. You need to be thinking it clearly, perhaps visualization might even help. This will require tremendous amounts of focus and also practice - so don't be discouraged if you don't manage it today." Nodding, he waved a hand at them. "Off you go."
