Being a ghost can get pretty tiresome. You would think it would be great - having the chance to live forever, be able to continue seeing the world even after you died. But it really wasn't all that swell, and quite frankly Professor Binns was getting tired of teaching. Especially since it wasn't like he could retire. What would be his excuse? "He's getting too old"? He was a ghost for Merlin's sake, he couldn't use that excuse. Unfortunately. Although he was sure the students would throw some sort of celebration if he did just leave. But then what would he do? It wasn't like he could just float around the castle like Nearly Headless Nick and entertain people with his botched up beheading. So, really, the only thing he could do was teach. And even that he probably wasn't all that good, since he couldn't seem to keep his class awake long enough to teach them anything. He'd given up pretty much after the first few years of trying. And now he had to teach a bunch of Slytherins and Gryffindors. They were the worst, really, since they didn't really care much for the subject. At least they were sixth and seventh years since it meant at least some of them genuinely liked the subject and so actually tried to concentrate. The rest took it because they didn't know what else to take. How lovely, right? At least it meant the class was small. Sighing to himself, Binns floated into the classroom through his black board and surveyed the class, who already looked bored. Once again, it was hard to care. And so he jumped right into it.
