About the Character- -
Name: Jason Kay Nickname(s): J, JK Age: Seventeen Gender: Male Year: Sixth Face Claim: Brendon Urie
Canon or Original? Original
Facial Properties:
. . . the feeling of feeling unique – do you know what i mean ! If you ask J, he’ll tell you he has the face of perfection. Is he conceited? Just a little bit. Growing up the way he did, he just became accustom to thinking he was some of kind of gift to man. Truth be told he isn’t quite as charmingly handsome as he might like to think he is. J’s complexion isn’t anything extraordinary, coming up as quite pale because he spends so much time indoors. If you’re lucky, you might see some red coloring in his cheeks every once in a while but that’s about it. His face itself it rather narrow, following in line with his lanky frame. J would claim his lips are the best part of his facial features – full and uniquely framed – but the most common reaction he’ll get is comment about his eyes. They’re almost like a dark, liquid chocolate, inherited from his mother. The only thing, in J’s opinion, that he gained from his bulky father was his nose, looking almost too big for his face. J’s a pretty boring person when it comes to what he does with his hair – it’s always been in the same cut, draped just long enough around his head and rarely combed. Most mornings he’ll just wake up, maybe run a hand through his hair if he’s feeling particularly productive that day, and then head out the door after dealing with the necessity of a clothing change.
Physique:
. . . he checked in to learn his clothes had been thieved ! Much like his face, J’s description is tall, skinny, and toneless. He hardly ever works out, preferring to get his day’s worth of bouncing around and burning calories through his acting. His figure – if you could even call it that – suffers over the school year because he doesn’t get any chance to perform (not that he isn’t a character in and of himself). J’s far from anorexic but occasionally he’ll get comment about his small body mass, none of which is muscle. He isn’t ashamed of not being some huge, burly guy. Truthfully, he really could care less about that kind of thing. He doesn’t so much rely on his appearance, exactly, to gain attention from anybody even though he thinks he’s quite dashing. J is more of a “inner beauty” kind of person, because his personality is what either makes or breaks any sort of relationship he could have. He is big on fashion however, always wearing something that’s flashy enough to draw eyes towards him. He likes to stand out and be noticed, and outrageous apparel usually will do the trick. Does he walk around Hogwarts looking like a clown? Of course not. He just knows his style and works it.
Personality:
. . . go on, grab your hat and fetch a camera ! Undoubtedly the first thing anyone will notice about J is that he has a very loud personality. Coming from an theatre background has had its effect on him. The best quality to come form such a thing is how talented he is when it comes to the arts. His preferred area is performing on stage – he loves being given a different character and learning to portray them correctly. It has given him a lot of insight to many different roles in life. One adverse side effect of that though is J always being unpredictable. It conflicts with his step-by-step take on life, always needing to have some sort of schedule to follow along with. Without one, he feels lost. The environment in which he grew up in did not do anything good, we’ll say, for him. J has acquired this need to have everything done perfectly and according to plan. Just how he goes about getting things done is where the randomness plays in, but at the end of the day you can trust in him to get it done and to perfect accuracy. While undiagnosed, it’s suspected he has a minor case of OCD. J is used to having things his way. If something isn’t just right, he knows about it. And if something isn’t to said perfection, he fixes it. Even the littlest things – like his fork not being straight and parallel to his plate at the dinner table – will irritate him and he’ll fix it accordingly. For this reason his artistic abilities with sketching tend to frustrate him more then it relaxes him. Like a true artist, he never finishes his work because it’s never good enough in his opinion. He is good with words though, that’s one thing he’s gained from reading so many scripts over the years. He’d like to even write a few plays of his own some day, but for now he sticks with short stories.
. . . oh he’s slightly clever to just a certain extent ! As far as school things go, he’s actually surprisingly smart. Since he is a very observant person and interested in new things, you could call him a teacher’s pet although he doesn’t approve much of labels. Some names you could call J are: bookworm, nerd, oddball, and neat freak. He’s good with the whole “school” vibe, I guess you could say. He knows how to balance out his homework with a social life. He’s a very interactive person and since he tends to keep his grades up he’s actually been a tutor occasionally. He doesn’t really mind helping another out, but he can get frustrated when a person just does not get something. It comes easily for him, so it’s hard for J to recognize not everyone is as intellectually inclined as he is. J would disagree if you said he had a quick temper, but yes, he does have a temper. He doesn’t like dealing with “stupid people.” In his world, you either know what you’re doing, have no clue what you’re doing, or know how to fake like you know what you’re doing when in reality you haven’t the slightest idea. He’d like to think he falls into the first category. Because he believes in this, he’s pretty quick to judge where anybody else should be in the three categories. You might think it’s hard to change his opinion about you – as first impressions usually do stick – but being an actor himself he knows what you see isn’t always what you get. If you can prove yourself to him otherwise, J’s pretty lenient about changes his views.
. . . just for the record, the weather today is slightly sarcastic ! Frankly, he’s a pretty witty guy. J knows how to get his fun in there, but it most likely won’t involve poking fun at anyone else. He doesn’t do pranks or anything to that extreme; he just knows how to find the humor in simple things. It’s been known to get him in trouble some days because he can have a big mouth. J isn’t one for thinking before he speaks, unless he’s out with a specific purpose in mind that requires hand-picked words. One example of his rare take on sarcasm is when he had been talking to his brother, Aaron, about a chance in name. Since he’s initials already tend to be seen as a play on words – Jason Kay, JK…“just kidding” – his brother had suggested he go by Jay. It would keep in theme with the whole “JK” deal, but Jason had laughed and said it sounded like he was a jay bird. Jokingly he’d thrown out the idea of just dropping the last two letters and stick with just calling himself J. No other spelling but a mere, single letter J. Aaron thought it was a funny enough to start calling him Just J. Really, Jason never really decided to go by J – it just sort of happened after that, and now is always addressed as J. It’s something he needs to explain every time he meets someone knew, that his name is not Jay, but rather J. Not very many people know his real, full name under his unique circumstances. He gets strange looks whenever trying to explain that his name really was just J, but he’s just grown used to that kind of reaction.
. . . boy you better put that pen to paper, charm your way out ! He won’t do something unless there is a purpose to it. That sort of attitude has led him to being quite the smooth-talker when he wants to be. Would he really call himself a ladies man? Not so much. He like’s a pretty girl’s attention, sure, but he’s far from being any kind of player. J actually hasn’t had that many girlfriends, about four or five to date, and out of the small select few he’s still on good terms with them. He doesn’t really see it fit to hold grudges or anything, being a generally forgiving person. That does not mean he is a pushover, or anything of that nature really. J is a good person, don’t get me wrong, but he isn’t as spineless as he appears. He knows how to use his fancy words to get what he wants. Call him manipulative if you want, but he prefers the term crafty. Having a decent vocabulary wasn’t a crime the last time he checked. Just because he’s gifted with words doesn’t mean he’s some sort of deceitful villain. Besides, for the most part he doesn’t generally try to play up the trickery unless its for a good reason. Self gain can be all he needs to try and craft someone into doing what he wants, but on a whole J wouldn’t say he’s that selfish. Today’s world is a selfish one, is his defense, and if you aren’t taking what you want then you won’t be receiving anything at all.

History:
. . . i’m the narrator, and this is just the prologue ! Father: Jeremy Kay Mother: Trisha (Stone) Kay, “Trixi” Brother: Aaron Kay
Born: August 7th, 1959 Birth Place: Chicago, Illinois
. . . here’s the setting: fashion magazines line the walls ! Only close relatives and dear family friends ever called her Trisha. To everyone else, the young femme was known as Trixi. Working in the theatre industry had been within the Stone family for generations dating back to Trixi’s great, great grandfather. Michael Stone had first gotten into the arts by his talent for design, specifically in architecture. Slowly but surely his name because something of a legend. By the time of his death his work was definitely something to be sought after. The world saw him and remembered him as only what he showed to the public: a real family man, honest and noble, very giving and filled with love for culture. Ironic he was a liar at heart. Michael’s ability for creating such wonderful pieces of art was not by sheer coincidence. True, he was gifted, but he also had wizarding blood instilled in him from ever farther back in the Stone family. He was skillful and wise with his use of magic just as much as he was in the arts. His most notable creation was the renovating the Closers, a widely known Chicago theatre where generations later Trixi still performs. The love for all arts – Michael’s architecture, her great grandfather’s drawing and painting, her mother’s musical antics – led to Trixi’s immediate exposure to a world of wonder. Even as a baby she was brought by her father to her mother’s shows and allowed access into the infamous backstage area. Theatre was where she grew up. Consequently, it is also where she met Jeremy.
. . . “what a beautiful wedding!” says a bridesmaid to a waiter ! The Kay’s family history is not so colorful. In fact, it’s something of a sob story. The family had never been one for the public eye, more of a behind-the-scenes type of feel. You could even describe them as your basic American family: mother, father, one child – a son – living off a low salary and stuck in an apartment fit just for their needs. Having a good work ethic was instilled in Jeremy soon in life and at the bright age of sixteen he set out for work. The employment field was something new for him but cash was needed and he was more then willing to do whatever necessary to help add to his family’s income. He was finally hired at the Closers as nothing more then an assistant janitor. His job was simple: keep the place clean. Jeremy had a boring job admittedly, but he did it with a smile and certainly did keep the theatre spotless. He would sometimes put in extra hours just so he could get glimpses of the show. And at sixteen, who didn’t want to try and sneak at peak at the show girls? He had a particular interest in Trixi, who unlike her grandfather from year’s ago had only raw talent in performing. It was noticeable and she attracted a lot of attention. You wouldn’t think someone like her would hold any return interest in a mere boy like Jeremy, but fate told hold and allowed opportunity for the two to interact. Three years later and they married young, Trixi insisting on holding a huge, gorgeous wedding for all their family and friends to attend. It was unlike anything Jeremy had ever experienced. But were you to ask him, he would always tell you the most beautiful part of their grand wedding would be his bride-to-be.
. . . and i believe this may call for a proper introduction ! This is where the first of two sons enter onto the scene, the happily wed couple bearing a son. They named him Aaron, after Jeremy’s father. It didn’t take long for them to begin to experience the blessings from having a child. There were hardships at times, Jeremy not wanting to introduce baby Aaron to the show-stopping scene while Trixi couldn’t imaging having it any other way. She had always been outlandish in her ways, going that extra mile to make everything fabulous. If it wasn’t eye-catchy and wondrous, it didn’t hold appeal for her. Nevertheless she made a good mother, trying to keep a balance between her work and her home life. Jeremy did eventually make a name of his own in the theatre, operating as the head management. Together they kept the ancient Stone legacy alive. By the time Aaron had turned three, the couple again was expecting. Trixi wished for a girl and Jeremy wished for a second son. It was Jeremy who had his prayer answered, the Kay’s now parents to two boys: Aaron, and now Jason as well. Aaron wasn’t very welcoming to the newest family addition for the first couple years, not used to having to share his parent’s love. However as the young boys grew into energetic children they started to adjust with the brotherly aspect of things. They could get along just fine, not excused from having a sibling quarrel every once in a while, but as the years passed their differences became known.
. . . oh, we’re still so young, desperate for attention ! Aaron didn’t seem much of a future in the world of theatre. He enjoyed going to the shows and cheering his mother on, or even helping his father out with scheduling performances. He’s even acted as an usher sometimes. Like the rest of the family he had a presence there – but it wasn’t on stage. Jason on the other hand almost immediately fell in love with performing. He was always scouting around backstage and making friends with his mother’s co-workers both male and female alike. His first shot at acting came when he was only five years old. As it would turn out, he had quite a knack for it. Other companies sought after him and offered great amounts of money to get him away from the Closers but his roots were deep and he declined without his parent’s insisting. It was his home, this theatre, and leaving it didn’t seem possible. Jason’s childhood fame grew within the Chicago region, overshadowing his older brother. This added more resentment just like when they had been young. But, all the same, arguments seemed rare. When they did fight it was brutal and all out. One of the biggest conflicts to ever arise was when discovery of Jason’s magical abilities occurred. He hadn’t been very old just yet, only six or seven. While Trixi hadn’t been a witch herself, she still carried the gene. So, born of two muggles Jason had suddenly thrown a curve ball into the family business. Trixi was not a novice when it came to magic, not exactly – she just hadn’t expected it to be in her family. Jason’s grandma (Trixi’s mother), was his closest connection to the wizarding world. His grandparents too were involved with the Closers, but having since retired had moved to the heart of London to better experience the lengths of magic.
. . . from that moment you’ll be out of place and underdressed ! Jason wasn’t allowed to use this new “skill” he had developed at the theatre or within the home. It wasn’t frowned upon, but it wasn’t exactly embraced either. His face so widely known it was hazardous for him to be performing any sort of magic. He stuck with just performing on the stage, leaving the magic behind. It seemed like the topic would never arise again, until he received his Hogwarts letter at age eleven. After many arguments it was decided Jason would go and live with his grandparents in London. By the end of August he was packed, leaving behind his theatre ancestry to his parents and brother. He also picked up a new name – J. It wasn’t likely anyone from this wizarding school was going to know who he was, but he didn’t want to deal with the sort of paparazzi-air that had followed him through the noisy streets of Chicago. What he had not been braced for was being treated as a “regular” person. J was used to feeling special and needed, always getting the best treatment from those around him. He was a V.I.P. star quality – not some normal, average student! Some days he wanted to scream out what fame he used to have, just to see what sort of reaction he’d get. Maybe somebody would recognize him. Chicago was his big base, but he had fans elsewhere. Some had to know who he really was, right? He received only heeds from his grandparents and comforting advice from his parents back home. Over the years he’d adjusted and still not very many know of his background. His big head had definitely deflated a bit, living a “normal” life during the school year and porkey-ing back home to take in what he could of the theatre scene during the summers. Now in his sixth year, J wouldn’t say he ever regretted coming to Hogwarts – magic had its own world, one he was interested in – but given the choice, Chicago was always going to be his true home.
