I guess it should come as no surprise that Nix was the one who introduced herself to me, not the other way around. I don’t think I would have liked her as much if I’d been the one to approach her. She can be a little bit too personable sometimes. Unless you’re into that kind of in-your-face socialite, I could only imagine how intimidated you could get by this girl. She just doesn’t back down, for hardly anything. That’s why I know her. She heard I was deaf, and was curious enough to ask me directly about it. She was just a First Year then. Had all sorts of questions, like if I dream in sign language, and do I think to myself in pictures, if I was born deaf or lost my hearing over time – all those sorts of questions that I normally get. What made me remember her was how in depth she wanted the answers. Normally a standard, “No, I was born deaf” works for most people. She wanted to know what it was like, growing up deaf. What it was like to never hear a sound. I guess it was just that she genuinely wanted to know, and not just for research purposes. Nix has a huge capacity to care for other people, even if she comes off a bit standoff-ish sometimes. Girl’s just got a big brain; wants to share what she knows with others. I can respect that. She’s definitely one I’ll want to keep in touch with after Hogwarts. That speaks for itself, I think.

Oh, it’s the same old story, boy, girl, same House, girl fancies boy – that’s truly what it boils down to. Not to boast, of course, as that is not my intention. Just relaying the story as is. I met Nix when she first came to Hogwarts. She actually sat down near me after her sorting. I didn’t want to be rude, only naturally, so I stroke up a conversation with the girl. I suppose one could say that my initial kindness towards her is what has caused her to remember me fondly. It’s quite alright with me, though. She’s can be a little bugger sometimes with her insane need to always be inquiring of something, but the girl just likes to learn new things. I’m alright with that. Often we will talk about our studies, or she’ll take a spot beside me over meal times, and you know, she has a love for puzzles, so I’ve helped her do a few of those in the common room. She may be young in her years, but her mind is far advanced. I always appreciate hearing her thoughts on the matter at hand. A new, fresh perspective, if you will. Always a pleasure.

She’s nice and all, but we don’t really get along all that well. I think she’s just a bit too “there” for me. Does that even make sense? Let me explain. Phoebe’s a cool girl, and yes, I admit I’m a little bit envious that she can pull of bright orange hair and I can’t. But she’s always just talking, and always so happy, and takes things in stride – okay, I mean seriously? If there’s such a thing as too much happy, she’s it. I don’t even think I’ve seen her frown before. Would it kill her too at least look a little bit upset when someone’s rude to her? Oh no, she just smiles at them. That’s great of her and all, but I guess I just think she can be a tad…inhuman sometimes. Or maybe I’m just not the person she cares to show emotions to. Either way, it’s not like we’ll ever need to be around each other than so desired. It’s pretty easy to avoid someone who isn’t in your House, and not in your Year. I wish her well – and well without me.

Yes, I know her. I wish I were capable of forgetting her. But then again, whose really doing to forgot a little redheaded fireball with a mouth for inquiry? I will give her the small satisfaction in knowing she’s a catch when it comes to looks, but she had the most ridiculous fetish for just being annoying, and always asking me things that weren’t even relevant to her. Why does she even think she’s allowed to talk to me? I remember one time, she blatantly asked me, “Why do you wear makeup? You’re a guy.” I am aware of what I put on my face in the morning (and/or continue to wear form the day before), and I’m also exceptionally aware of the fact that I am of the male gender. I told her as much and she just mutters, “Fascinating!” What the hell is that suppose to mean? Half the time I felt like I was just some remarkable experiment to her. Whatever the case, she’s stuck at Hogwarts now and I am a free man away from her. Can’t say I’m sad to see her go. She can go pester someone else about their habits and genders.
