→ HANGING BY A MOMENT !
Oh my. Oh my, oh my, oh my. I don't care how biased I am in saying that Marlene McKinnon is without doubt one of my favorite characters ever but there's no way to deny the sheer brilliance of her diary. For one, it's aesthetically appealing - both the layouts of the old and new diary are gorgeous. But the big reason that sucks you in again and again is the words themselves. This girl's diary is so amazingly in-character that it's actually mind-boggling. Not a sentence feels out of place or boring or anything less than, well, Marls. It's purely her voice, all the way, and what a wonderfully entertaining voice that is! And it's a voice that's constant, whether Marls is making a checklist of things to do in life or ranting about ex-boyfriends and other girls, whether she's utterly heartbroken or completely ecstatic. As the avid reader, we get to experience all of that with Marls, we get to laugh and cry alongside her, we get to read all those perfectly phrased lines and it's just so real. Here's a girl who could walk out of the computer screen at any moment, scribbling away in that diary of hers, and I don't think any of us would be surprised. The big differentiation, I feel, the reason why Marls deserves the award above all others, is that Skar's taken it to the next level. She's created more than just a character, she's created a person and that's oh so obvious as you read this wonderful diary. Not to mention, I think everyone squeals a little when it's updated before immediately dashing off to read the new entry ;) Seriously, though. There are no words, Skar. No words ♥
- - - Okay, none of you on this site can tell me that you haven’t at least once read an entry of Liabilities. It’s adorable and funny and cute and heartbreaking and charming and bitchy and just perfect all wrapped into one spiffy little package with cute graphics and a gorgeous format. Her entries are so raw and so well delivered and there are so many funny things and so many sad things and just–– -dies- It’s amazing. There’s already so much range to the character of Marlene McKinnon and you’d think it honestly couldn’t get any better, but then, bam!diary and just... wow. Every single entry is filled with honesty and clarity and excellently delivered one-liners that either make you giggle or make you cringe. We cried along with her at the end of her relationship with James and we rejoiced along with her at the beginning of her relationship with Sirius––we even actually supported her in her ranting about Alice and Cissa and Ludo! Oh gosh, just, the things Marls says. ‘I can now tell you how much 'love' lasts in Sirius Black's world. One month two weeks.’ Hahaha oh my gosh, priceless. But yeah, I mean, a character’s diary is supposed to be the one true friend they’ve got––the one true place where they can open themselves fully and explore their own identities. And honestly, I think we all know Marlene so well now because Skarletta has done such an amazing job with Liabilities. And I am so excited to see what Skar does with Marls’ new diary. Kudos, Skar, you totes deserve this.
- - - I can't explain the fantastical depths of Marlene McKinnon in one whole paragraph. Which is why the way Skar does her diary is incredible. Skar captures Marls so freaking well that it's mind boggling. BAH. And there's only like, what? Twelve posts? In two damn days? Well by now it's probably been a week, but still! Hot damn. I read her diary and feel like I'm actually reading secretly from someones diary that's locked away and I feel super sneaky and like I'm going to get in trouble. That's how wonderful it is. She writes in such a Marlene manner that I can't stand how unbelievably amazing it is! I've loved Marlene ever since I started here and I'm so glad that Skar has stuck around long enough to let her become something so much more! Totes a fantastic character and an amazing journal!
