Hi guys!
We've got a few little issues to update on, some of which have been discussed recently amongst many of you. Nothing too huge, merely some little changes that we think will be a benefit to everyone.
- One-Paragraph Threads - Many of you weighed in on this, and we're pleased to say that ISS will be allowing more frequent one-paragraph threads. We trust that members will use this responsibly, and we believe that past threads which have allowed one-pargraph posts for whatever reason have shown that the shorter format does nothing to effect the quality of the posts produced, and that it can be an effective tool in certain role-playing situations. That being said, there are some conditions that we are attaching to this ability, to ensure that it does not get out of control:
1. Each character may be involved in no more than two one-paragraph threads at a time. 2. A character that is not involved in any full-length threads at the time may only be involved in one one-paragraph thread until that is no longer the case. 3. A character's first post in a one-paragraph thread must be a full-length post; after that, they may start posting one-paragraph posts. 4. You must notify an admin when you are starting a one-paragraph thread and let them know: the characters that will be involved, and a very brief description of what is to happen/why the thread will be a one-paragraph thread. This can be done, ideally, through firing off a quick PM, but it's also fine if you want to bring it up in discussion in the c-box, or through MSN or any other means of communication, as long as an admin is made aware of those things.
We can't wait to see what this will bring to ISS, and are very excited for the one-paragraph threads that we're sure will be starting up soon!
- The Yule Ball - It has been requested that the Yule Ball run an extra month OOC until November 1st, and we think that this is a good idea that will allow people to make the most of the event, while also making it easier on those who've just started up school and classes and are getting back into balancing it with ISS.
However! We want members to know that at the same time, they are welcome to begin threads set during the holidays whenever they would like, and do not have to wait until November 1st to do so if they are already ready.
Members who have not voted for the Yule Court - and please remember: you may vote for every character you have! - will have until Friday, September 16th to PM their response to Dumbledore's account. After that, it will be too late and the Yule Court will be announced both OOC and IC.
- Do Not Disturb! - A suggestion was made for a sitewide graphic that members can use to mark M-Rated threads, and Didi has been wonderful enough to come up with this:
You may place it at the top of the thread, or at the bottom of a post, depending when things get steamy. You are also welcome to put an '[M]' or similar notation in the title of the thread if you wish, as long as it is made absolutely clear in some place or another that the thread will be M-Rated.
- Supplemental Face Claims - This has been the subject of much back-and-forth and rule changes lately and for that we apologize. We've been examining the situation to try and figure out what would be fairest to members both new and old alike, without letting anything get out of hand as we believe it previously was. We have decided to re-introduce the "extra supplemental face claims", BUT members will only be allowed one extra SFC (that is to say, non-immediate-family). Not per character, per member. We realize that there are some SFCs that fall in the grey area between immediate family or not, and we believe that allowing everyone one "extra" SFC will allow for this to be even across the board. The extra SFC could be a cousin or other extended relative, or anyone else important in a character's life.
That being said, we would also like to clear up the definition of immediate family members. We recognize that some characters live with or have been raised by people who are not their biological immediate family, and we will certainly recognize these claims as being their immediate family instead (that is to say, if they were adopted, or live with/were raised by grandparents, aunt and uncle, or anyone else).
- Diagon Attack - Lastly, this is a slightly more personal issue, but one that I (Kabby) realize affects many characters and members, so I would like to make it clear for the last time. The attack in which Marlene McKinnon was killed took place/will take place in Diagon Alley on December 25th at night (yes, Christmas). There were celebrations occuring in the alley, and a small force of Death Eaters attacked. Aurors/Order Members responded quickly, and Marlene was killed defending civilians from the Death Eaters. Several others were injured in the attack, understandably, and so if you would like to incorporate any of that for a character, you are more than welcome to. This goes for Death Eaters as well, if you would like to say that they were a part of the attack. (If you would like to suggest your character for being the Death Eater who killed Marlene, ideally let me know first, unless of course you've discussed with Skar, because that would be interesting to figure stuff out with.) But before this goes off too much on a tangent of plotting as opposed to site updates, I just want to apologize for any confusion over dates; it became clear that it made the most sense for the attack to occur after the Yule Ball, as it would have surely affected certain characters who have already begun posting for Yule.
Thanks for everything guys, and we hope that the updates meet your satisfaction. If there's anything that you take issue with, please let us know.
Sincerely,
