Name: Alice Jocelyn Prewett
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Year: Seventh
Face Claim:Mila KunisShelley Hennig
Canon or Original? Canon
Facial Properties:
If Alice stared long and hard enough in the mirror, she could probably pick out about ten different flaws from her face alone, if not more; her face is too round, her mouth is too wide, her nose is disproportionate to her face, her ears are too large for her head, one eyebrow is slightly higher than the other, she has the annoying tendency to get bags under her eyes if she gets less than six hours of sleep, she tans too quickly and gets freckles at times, her teeth aren't perfectly straight and her hair has the tendency to frizz really, really horribly if she doesn't use anti-frizz potions (it's even worse during those damned "bad hair days"). And, when she's having worse days, these flaws bother her as much as they would bother any other female. But generally, Alice likes her appearance and knows she's attractive, in a sense. Her hair is naturally dark brown, almost black, although she tends to lighten it with potions and spells sometimes. Her eyes are wide and, in her opinion, unusual in colour, although perhaps not entirely in a bad way. At first glance, they appear green, but look at them long enough and you'll realise that her right eye is actually more blue, whereas her left eye is more green, and both have flecks of brown in them. Her lips are full, her teeth, although not perfectly straight, are white thanks to magic and her nose is slightly larger than average. Overall, she has a very expressive face; she wouldn't know how to hide her feelings even if she wanted to.
Physique:
Alice has never been exactly skinny. As a matter of fact, she'd actually been quite chubby for most of her life, up until the summer between her third and fourth year, which was when she decided it was time to focus on being healthy and lose weight, since, until then, she'd felt pretty terribly about herself. She wasn't exactly obese, but she was definitely heavier than most of the girls in her house. Now, she manages to maintain a fairly healthy weight by trying to keep her sweet consumption to a minimum and jogging a few times a week around the lake. She's curvy and sometimes she thinks it's overly so, but she's grateful anyway because she wouldn't want to feel like an absolute stick with no meat on her bones. Like her mother, Alice is fairly short, having stopped growing at 5'3. She's hoping she'll gain an inch or two in the next few years to bring her height from "short" to "average", but she read somewhere in a muggle science book that, apparently, after the age of twenty, a person becomes a quarter of an inch shorter, so unless she has another growth spurt in the next three years, she might as well give up all hope and embrace herself as the little person that she is. As for what she wears, Alice is fairly conservative, having grown up with the belief that "less is more". She doesn't have any particular dress style, and pretty much wears anything – dresses, skirts, jeans, t-shirts. Basically, as long as it looks good, she'll wear it.

{ f e i s t y }
Alice is feisty without being aggressive in the sense that she'll argue her point of view until she's blue in the face because she sees it's right, but won't insult the other person's intelligence by trying to point out all the holes that are in her opposition's argument (unless they're gaping holes) because she strongly believes in the whole "everyone's entitled to their own opinion". It's why, as much as she enjoys debating, she generally wouldn't start them unless provoked. She's also the type who, once she sees that she is the one with the wrong point of view, she'll graciously accept her mistake instead of feeling bitter about it. It was really just easier to let it go rather than hold onto something weak. Still, she'll always stick up for her rights - and for other people, if she believes that they need it - even if it does mean she'd have to confront people. She can't stand the idea of anyone being wronged, especially if that someone is her; she'd just never get physical about it because, despite how fiery she might seem, she likes to believe that she's generally a peaceful, non-violent type of person, unless she's smacking someone upside the head for doing something incredibly foolish. She's not afraid to speak her mind; if she thinks her friend is doing something wrong, or something that could possibly end up hurting them, she'll immediately tell them how much of a bad idea she thinks it is, according to the situation, although she'd never actually stop them because she's a firm believer in "everyone should do what they want to do, no matter what". If they still want to continue making their mistakes after she has attempted to show them the light, so to speak, then she'll let them be – oh, she'll worry about them in the process, and she'd make it clear she doesn't approve, but she won't physically stand in their way, because she wouldn't want someone to stand in her way, either.
{ g e e k y }
You wouldn't think it, upon meeting Alice, that she would be a dork, but she's a true geek at heart. On the academic side of things, she has the natural smarts that got her an impressive handful of O's in her fifth year report card. Fact is, she likes getting good grades, she likes seeing that "O" (or, all right, it's sometimes an "E") at the top of an essay that she'd worked ages one (if a few hours or so counted as 'ages', right?). But Alice is a geek in every aspect of the word, so besides being so academically inclined, she enjoys things like comic books and Star Trek. The latter was thanks to her father bringing home a muggle television that had been tinkered with; since he's head of the Office for the Detection and Confiscation of Counterfeit Defensive Spells and Protective Objects, he gets to bring home several objects from that office. At least, that's what Alice always assumed. At any rate, during the summer of her first year, she was introduced to the show, and has been hooked ever since, becoming what is apparently known as a "Trekkie". Her inner nerd was fed further in her second year, when she met Aidan Donnelly, who turned her to comic books. Before long, she was begging her parents to take her to Muggle stores so that she could read more and that was how she started collecting them – she has a special bag for them that she takes with her to Hogwarts every year (just in case something bad happens at home, like it burns down or something; the thought of losing her collection is almost too much to bear; she's always been overly possessive and protective of them). It's not her whole life, though and, although Alice isn't ashamed of it, she doesn't exactly go around talking about her comic book addiction to everyone. Just those whom she's closest to and thus are privy to her oddities, really.
{ d r i v e n }
Alice knows what she wants; she has goals that she's set for herself and she knows them well, even though she's never exactly written them down because she's not that organised. But as soon as she has a goal, she has to achieve it, no matter what. She wanted to get at least five O's in her OWLs – with a minimum grade of E in the rest of her classes – and that was exactly what she got, because she worked hard for it. She's determined to have the largest collection of comic books and, although she might not achieve it, she'll still try to make it come true. She throws herself into everything she does whole-heartedly; she refuses to do anything half-assed. If she's dedicated two hours to spend on her homework, she's going to use every single one of those one hundred and twenty minutes to get it done, and she'll get it done properly so that she doesn't have to go back and do it again. When she's in a relationship, she's in it - the relationship might not be a serious, I'm-going-to-marry-him-and-have-his-babies, but it's still going to be serious in the sense that it's exclusive; no seeing other people, no snogging other people and certainly no sleeping with other people. If there's one thing she won't stand for, it's being cheated on, because she knows that she would never do it herself, and she expects the same from her significant other. Unfortunately, her drive doesn't translate entirely when it comes to pursuing a relationship with someone she has feelings for, which will be touched upon in the next paragraph.

The year Alice came back about thirty pounds lighter was, conveniently, the same year she became genuinely interested in the opposite sex as more than friends and she discovered that she was actually a natural flirt. She's always been a playful soul who liked to joke around with her friends, and that kind-of ties in with her "flirting technique". Almost all the time, she's not very serious about it; she's just doing it for laughs, or to make the other person uncomfortable (once again, for laughs). She'll flirt with her guy friends for fun, she'll flirt with boys she thinks are cute because she wants their attention (it's always nice to have an attractive boys' attention on you, even if you didn't have feelings for them) and she'll even jokingly flirt with her female friends when she's feeling particularly frisky. It's usually just for the sake of harmless fun – actually, usually is an understatement because, to be completely honest, as much of a natural as Alice might be when she's just playing around, when she's around someone she's genuinely attracted to and/or has feelings for, all her flirting talents go right out of the window and you're left with a stuttering mess who blurts out the wrong thing at the wrong time – or, worse, she'll say something completely off topic, or completely awkward, end up embarrassing herself or her crush and then stumble through an apology and run off. This is why she tends to avoid her crushes for long periods of times, to save herself the mortification of going through…well, that. Still, she's managed to get quite a few boyfriends over the years; definitely not a shabby number, considering she's never one to make the first step.
{ m a t e r n a l }
Alice isn't really maternal in the cuddles-and-pets-you-until-you-feel-better way. Oh, she's an excellent listener, and she's more than happy to lend you an ear when you're feeling down; in fact, she's always the one to encourage her friends to talk about their problems, and she's always the one who's there to listen to them. And then, once she thinks she has a good grasp on the problem, she'll start doling out advice – and she doesn't want to toot her own horn here, but Alice knows that she gives pretty darn good advice, and she fully expects people to take it, especially if she's just spent the last hour listening to you moan about it. As aforementioned, though, she won't tell you what to do since she is a firm believer in people having their own free will, but she'll still strongly suggest that you take her advice. If you do, good for you, you can come and rag on her if it turns out to be bad advice and she'll take it, but if you don't, then that's fine, too, because she'll still be there for if things go horribly wrong, and while this time her comfort might not be quite as gentle as it might have been originally, it'll still be there. Alice will still put her arm around you and tell you it'll all be okay – and then, as soon as you're feeling better, she'll give an "I told you so" jab, just because she can. Alice is also extremely protective of her friends, and tends to generally fuss and mother over them if they get hurt. She has a sister, Beth, who's three years her junior, and Alice was like a second mother to her. When Beth joined Hogwarts, Alice took it upon herself to continue looking out for her, much to her sister's annoyance. Beth often complained about Alice constantly shadowing her, but the older sister easily ignored them, telling her that she was only "looking out for her" and that she "ought to appreciate having her big sister around to take care of her" – which, of course, was met with plenty of eye-rolling and huffing. Alice isn't quite so overbearing with her friends, but she does have a tendency to worry about them more than is deemed normal.
{ c l o s e d - o f f }
As much as Alice loves to listen to people's problems, she has an issue with telling them her own. It's not that she has trust issues or anything like that – oh no, she has a lot of faith in her closest friends, and she doesn't have a difficult time trusting someone, although she's reasonable about it and is wise enough to know the different between someone who's trustworthy and not. It's simply that she doesn't like to talk about them because she'll always feel like she's bothering them, or that her problems are insignificant and thus don't need to be told. If a friend pries then she'll eventually give in, and if she's particularly angry (which isn't very often, since she's generally a very calm and peaceful person) then she'll end up venting to anyone who's willing to listen, with large, alarming gesticulations and everything. Otherwise, she keeps pretty mum about her bigger problems, although, strangely enough, she has no problem sharing the little things – like news about her latest crush, or the occasional piece of gossip. She's not unsociable or completely shut off, she just likes to bottle things up instead of burdening others with it. Thankfully, it's not too much of a strain on her at all, since she's been lucky enough to have a fairly smooth life so far, so there hasn't been anything too stressful or heart breaking that she would need to talk over with a friend. Fact of the matter is, she much prefers to be the listener and the advice giver, rather than the talker, the advice taker.

There are still quite a few little parts that make up what Alice Prewett is like. For one thing, she's pessimistic. Personally, she hates that word in reference to her, because she doesn't believe that she is – she likes to think she's realistic in the sense that she'd rather not set herself up for disappointment. But fact of the matter is, she sees the glass as half empty. She doesn't exactly run around saying that anyone could die at any moment; it's just the way that she approaches things sometimes can come off as quite pessimistic. She likes her feet firmly on the ground, and she's definitely not the type of person who spends her days daydreaming about a Prince coming to save her – instead, she works towards her goal of graduating from Hogwarts with decent grades and becoming an Auror. Of course, it's not all serious!time with Alice; quite the opposite. Alice loves to have fun. She doesn't do much drinking (she's usually just a social drinker, and always makes sure not to drink enough to become completely smashed because loss of control is not something she enjoys), but she just likes to have a good time. She likes partying it up with her friends, and she'll be the first to grab a friend's hand and pull them out on the dance floor. She's not scared to make an absolute fool of herself in front of good company, because there's no use being a straight-laced bore who isn't willing to sacrifice some of her dignity for a good laugh. And that's really what Alice enjoys looking for; a good laugh. She's pretty simple like that.

History:
The joining between Joseph Prewett and Isobel MacMillan was not one out of love. It never was, and it probably never will be, sadly enough, even after having two children. But I'm getting ahead of myself here. Joseph Prewett grew up with a younger brother and sister. He was the oldest one of the family, and thus immediately expected to be the most successful. He managed to somewhat fulfil that expectation – after graduating from Hogwarts (he was a Ravenclaw), he managed to obtain a job at the Ministry of Magic; quite a feat, since normally they didn't recruit fresh graduates unless you had serious connections and, although Joseph was a pureblood, he didn't exactly have strong associations with the employees in the high offices of the Ministry. He likes to believe that he got in by his very own abilities, his intelligence and knowledge and other skills that he had refined during his years at Hogwarts. And although he started off as a lowly employee in the department of Misuse of Muggle Artifacts, it wasn't long before he was moving up the ranks and the pay was getting better and better – not that that was much of an issue, since his mother had a pretty hefty sum of money to her name and the family lived pretty comfortably (although at first Reginald Prewett had been iffy about relying on his wife for much of the spending, seeing as the Prewetts were not a very wealthy family, he got over it soon enough). Even so, Joseph knew he'd be expected to marry well. Although the Prewetts were generally pure-muggleborns, and you would never find the word "mudblood" on their lips, they were still an old-fashioned family and it was expected of them to marry a pureblood; Joseph was no exception, and he had been perfectly okay with that decision…until he met co-worker Clara Johnson and fell absolutely head over heels for her. She was beautiful, funny, magnificent, polite, genuine, down-to-Earth; everything he had been looking for in a woman. To him, she was perfect in every sense. There was only one problem:
She was a muggleborn.
When Joseph tried to plead his case to his parents, telling them how much he adored her, that he would literally die without her, that he needed to make her his, needed to marry her and have her children and live with her happily ever after because it was the only way he could be happy, his parents were unimpressed. His mother claimed he was sick with something she called "love fever", told he was sounding like someone who had had a high dosage of love potion, and that there was no way in hell he was going to marry a muggleborn. See, Reginald and Elizabeth, as pro-muggleborns as the rest of the Prewetts were, were still extremely proud of their blood status, and the thought of her eldest son mixing their line with different blood was horrifying. Their arguments became so heated that it came to a point where Reginald was threatening to disown him if he disgraced the family in such a way. Finally, loyalty to his family overcame his desire to marry Clara, and he was forced to break it off, once and for all. He tried to explain that it wasn't his fault – that his parents were forcing him to do this, that he didn't want to break up with her, that he wanted to marry her and live happily ever after with her, but he couldn't because…well, because he loved his family more than he loved her. The latter was left unsaid, but they both knew it. At the end of the day, Joseph would do anything for his parents, and he couldn't stand the thought of being disowned. He'd grown up with the idea that you had to please your parents, no matter what. They always sacrificed everything for you so that they ensured you could have a good, healthy life so, sometimes, you have to return the favour. You had to make them happy. And if marrying a pureblood was what made them truly happy, then that was what he would do. He wouldn't love her as much as Clara; that much he knew for sure. But he would marry her to please his parents, have children that would, hopefully, carry on the Prewett line. Perhaps the love he would surely have for his children would somehow transform into fondness for his wife; at least, he hoped so.
It was a false hope.
* * * * *
For as far as she can remember, Isobel MacMillan had been prepped for marriage. Her mother instructed her first in how to be a respectable pureblood and, second, in how to properly run and maintain a household. She was told the third one – how to please her husband, both in and out of the marital bed, was not quite as important, at least not after a few years. So, even from a young age, Isobel never thought she'd marry for love. She wasn't expecting it. Oh, sometimes she allowed her mind drift to the possibility of her actually loving her husband, but then she looked at her parents and how they weren't in love; you could tell that they weren't because, while they remained friendly, they acted more like they were friends or cousins that had to spend time together rather than a happily married couple. So she knew from the very beginning that chances of actually falling in love with her husband to be were pretty slim. And maybe she was being pessimistic, but wasn't it better to not have much hope for something rather than be hopeful and then have your hopes dashed when faced with bitter reality? If Isobel had had a feminist bone in her body, she might have thought she was being treated like a thoroughbred, getting ready to be saddled and then to breed. But it wasn't the time of the feminist movement, and all of her friends were getting married and bragging about their large mansions and sprawling grounds (why they were bragging, Isobel had no idea, because they'd grown up in similar houses anyway). As the years slipped by without any possible suitors, Isobel's mother began to grown nervous at the lack of prospects for her only daughter. It was strange, because the MacMillans, while not nearly as wealthy and powerful as the Blacks and Malfoys, were still pretty well-to-do on the social ladder. And while her daughter wasn't classically beautiful, surely someone would want to take her off her hands? But it didn't seem to be the case, and Mrs. MacMillan was growing desperate; and that's when she met Mrs. Prewett, who was equally distraught over her eldest son. It was almost too perfect (it was).
There's not much to tell about what happened after that; the wedding was a rushed affair, although it was still lavish and had more guests than they recognised. By the end of the month, twenty-six year old Joseph Prewett had married twenty-five year old Isobel MacMillan – now Isobel Prewett. They moved to a lovely house in one of the more luxurious suburban areas of London after returning from their too-fast honeymoon. Just as Isobel had suspected, she did not love him; hell, she barely even liked him. Joseph hardly looked her in the eye, and the consummation of their marriage seemed more like they were sealing a business arrangement. Which, she supposed, they sort-of were. At any rate, Isobel hoped that that one night had been enough to get her pregnant; thankfully, it was. Nine months later, on the eve of the 22nd of July, Isobel gave birth to a beautiful, bouncing baby girl whom they named Alice Jocelyn. In that instant, Joseph and Isobel became closer; they didn't fall in love, per se, but the love they shared for their daughter was more than enough to overcome the original indifference and they became somewhat friends.
The two of them doted on Alice as much as they could without crossing the "spoiling her" line – although, sometimes, Joseph went a little overboard with certain gifts. But in general they managed to raise her to be a polite little girl. When Alice was three years old, her little sister, Beth, was born – named after her grandmother, who had, sadly, passed away the previous year. At first, Alice didn't take well to having a younger sibling. She wasn't used to sharing her parents' love and affection, and she couldn't understand why this bundle of screaming, smelly flesh was deserving of so much of it. The childish jealousy period didn't last very long, however, and, thankfully, nothing bad came of it. Soon enough, Alice found that it was now her duty as the big sister to look out for Beth and make sure nothing bad happened to her. And so, from the tender age of three and a half, Alice was already giving into her maternal instincts and occasionally peering into her sister's crib to make sure that she was okay. Joseph and Isobel found it to be quite adorable; Alice thought it was her duty and, as they both grew older, Alice's protectiveness of her sister grew even stronger, to a point where she was almost as overbearing as her parents. The two got along quite well, however, and the family was generally happy. Joseph and Isobel easily kept up pretences of being a happily wedding couple; Joseph pecked Isobel chastely on the cheek every morning before he headed off to work, Isobel cooked him his favourite meals, they went out as a family together; no one would ever suspect that, when night fell, they performed a quick spell on their bed to split it into two twin beds and each spouse slept in their respective bed. They knew that a divorce would be out of the question – for one thing, they couldn't possibly put their girls through something so traumatic at such a young age and, for another thing, they could only imagine what a scandal this would cause. So they co-existed as peacefully as possible for the next few years.
Alice, of course, was completely unaware. She believed her parents were as in love with each other as any other of her friends' parents; they doted on each other enough, after all. And thus her childhood was completely normal – aside from the occasional magical accident – mostly just moving stuff around, and once she'd accidentally broken her mother's favourite vase and magically repaired it while she had been panicking about it. The summer of the year she turned eleven years old, she received her Hogwarts letter and, after hugging her sister tightly and telling her she would write to her every week ("well, I can't write every day, I'm going to be busy with school and my friends!"). Over the next six years, she's made friends, broken up with boyfriends and even made a few possible enemies. Now, she's almost halfway through her seventh year, and is just about ready for her schooling to end. Oh, it's not that she didn't enjoy the years she's spent year; on the contrary, she enjoyed them very much, and she knows Graduation with be quite emotional for her, but she's excited for the future, too. She already has plans of what she wants to be; she's going to train to be an Auror and start fighting against Voldemort and his followers as soon as she leaves Hogwarts. Naturally, her parents have not heard of these plans, but she will tell them. Soon. Eventually.
Until then, though, she's going to enjoy the rest of her days as a Hogwarts student to the fullest.
