Name: Maylene Iria Bell
Age: Seventeen
Gender: Female
Year: 7th
Face Claim: Emma Watson
Canon or Original? Canon
Facial Properties:
• AS A BLONDE •
Coming from a family born in Britain, May’s skin is quite light, and sometimes rosy if she’s been running or sitting next to a fire for long, which happens quite a lot, to be frank. She has small freckles covering her face, especially on her nose -that she actually thinks looks kind of cute- which is small and dainty. May’s most prominent feature is, of course, her hair. Born blonde, it has darkened with the years as is the case with all hairs, but remains a natural honey-blonde color that she loves. It’s also somewhat wavy, falling down to just below her shoulders, never more, never less, and she has a cluster of bangs that fall over her forehead on the right side of her face, a little below her eyes, which she usually keeps out of the way so she can see. Although she does straighten her hair from time to time, on special occasions, she much prefers it natural. However, her hair has always given her loads of problems, as it tends to become bushy in the wind, and is kind of dry. This she fixes with a brush when she has time, but due to the fact that she’s not one to really care much about her appearance, if she doesn’t have time, she won’t bother.
• BROWN EYED GIRL •
Sabine Baptiste’s brown eyes were inherited flawlessly by her only daughter, although the shape and smallish size is more like her father’s. Above them are May’s eyebrows, which are thin and a darker brown than her hair is. Her eyelashes are longish, and frame her eyes nicely. May’s lips are a darkish pink, and when she smiles they crook sideways, unless it’s not a toothless smile; in any case, she has dimples on the sides of her mouth when she does so. Her face is slim and her chin is neither protruding nor inverted. May doesn’t really like to wear makeup, and goes for au naturale look most of the time. If she does apply some, it’ll be some clear gloss on her lips, and cover up of course, but that’s it. She really hates girls that wear tons of eyeliner and bright colored lip-gloss that makes them look like zombies or something. Earrings she usually wears studs if any at all, and from time to time dangling ones, but it’s not very comfortable, so she’s not a big fan of them anyway.
Physique:
• TALL AND SLENDER •
May isn’t a ridiculously tall girl, but she does have her height going for her, especially something good for when she plays Quidditch. She has longish legs, or so her mother always told her, that would come in useful all her life, and she loves them because she can run faster, jump higher, in general, move better, freer. She doesn’t tower over people her age, and definitely not taller than the boys, though, so that’s good, because she doesn’t really like dating guys that are shorter than her. Then, because she’s constantly exercising, moving around, and she does eat healthy foods, May has always been pretty slender. She’s not ripped or anything close to it, but she’s perfectly happy with her body. She’s never been on a diet and she never plans on being on one. Her secret is eat healthy, stay active, be happy. She has smallish breasts, but not being a girl to obsess over her body, she doesn’t mind them, and definitely doesn’t think they’re useful or anything other than practical purposes. Her hands are medium-sized, although her fingers are pretty long, which helps her with a bat on the Quidditch field, and playing tennis or any sport, really, and she’s always been pretty flexible.
• COME ON VOGUE •
May’s preferred style of clothes is always proper and elegant. She likes dressing in blouses or long coats and scarves. She loves dresses from time to time, but only when she’s planning to walk places or sit down, because they are the most uncomfortable thing of life for playing sports or running around. Terrible. Although she doesn’t love clothes, she does like fashion, and her clothes usually are that. She likes wearing sneakers all the time, and they’re super comfortable for being active and all. She usually hates pink, unless it’s a really light, toned down version of it, but she’d never be caught wearing hot pink. Her favorite colors are more neutral, dark blues and greens, although in general, not necessarily for clothes, would be purple.
Wand Type: 12”, Willow and Dragon Heartstring, springy.
Wand Expertise: Best for Transfiguration.
Patronus: Wolf
Boggart: A really small, tight box that’s trying to swallow her up.
Personality:
• TALKATIVE •
One of the first things you notice about May when you meet her is that she talks. May isn’t very fond of silences and likes to break them all the time. Even if she’s just met the person, she’ll start up a conversation about anything and everything, and if the person is her friend, she goes crazy. She’s also really, really random and will burst out laughing in the middle of a serious conversation about something that happened the day before or make a really strange comment. May can have a conversation with anybody, really, She tends to interrupt people when they’re talking because something has popped into her mind and she needs to get it out there, which comes off as rude sometimes, but she’s not doing it on purpose. Also, May is very outspoken. She likes to voice her opinion all the time to anybody that’ll listen, and sometimes she talks to herself, or thinks aloud more like it, since she’s not entirely crazy. She loves a good argument or friendly debate, because she’s really good at convincing people that she’s right, and she’s always been very interested in studying how the teenage human mind works when trying to decide something. Because of this, May also has the problem that she’s a really bad listener. Even if she’s talking to somebody she’s actually interested in, while the other person speaks, she’ll already be thinking about something that she has to say next, and doesn’t devote one hundred percent attention to what they’re saying; this is why she’s not very good at giving the right advice, and why mostly she’s not her friends’ first choice to go for if they want a concrete response. However, if they need to vent and just rant about something, May’s the one; she gets heated up really easily, as well.
• HONEST •
Another thing that’s very characteristic of May is that she’s downright honest about everything. She hates lies, and doesn’t see the need for them, when it’s so much easier to live by the truth. For this reason, May almost never lies, and if she does, it’s for a vital reason or a white lie or when planning a surprise or something like that. Unless she has a really good reason to do so, she always speaks the truth, or what she thinks is the truth, anyway. Because of this honesty, May has said some tactless things in the process, although she tries not to be harsh or mean to people even if she’s being truthful. Also, whenever she’s interested in a guy or something, she’ll usually tell them straightaway, or won’t try to hide it anyway. When she’s angry about something, May goes up directly to the person and talks it out with them; she doesn’t mind fighting from time to time, she believes it’s really healthy for a relationship to fight, because it shows another side of them, and if you can get past the fight, then it proves the relationship’s worth it. Now, she’s not exactly naive about the idea that everybody lies all the time, but she absolutely hates the fact, and will try to convince people not to do so. Being honest all the time doesn’t mean that May can’t keep a secret. She’s actually really good at that, despite her overly talkative nature and her straight to the point honesty; if somebody confides in her, she’ll keep that to herself unless the person tells her it’s okay to tell. The whole honesty thing started around the time when May was eleven, and her parents got divorced because they were being dishonest with each other, and from then on May vowed never to lie to anybody; not her family, not her friends, not her future husband, or anything.
• EASILY AMUSED •
May is one of those girls that laugh at anything, however stupid or immature or plain not funny it may be. She loves to laugh, and she loves to make people laugh, and the sound of laughter, and tries to do so as much as possible. Not only does it provide extra exercise, but it feels so good and liberating of stress, that it’s just great. And the best laughter is the one that’s from deep, deep down, gut laughter, she calls it, that’s contagious; or the one that’s uncontrollable and leaves you out of breath and tears streaming from your eyes. This is one of the reasons why she sometimes looks like a freak in front of her friends by bursting out laughing in the middle of nothing – if she has nothing to laugh about at the moment, she can just remember something hilarious from some other time and laugh again. People have commented that May’s laugh is contagious, and it may be, for her, all the better. She’s not a goof overall, nor a joke or anything, in her quest to make people laugh, but she does crack some jokes once in a while, and if she succeeds, great.
• CHARISMATIC •
Something that is really important to May, and that she treasures is her charisma. May is a very charismatic person; she can have a conversation with anybody, and she can relate to anybody, or at least find something in common with them to talk about and like each other with. May likes making people happy, she likes being liked and she likes liking people – so she always finds something that she can talk about and form a relationship from. When she wants to, May can get along with many completely different people in different situations. This she prides herself for, because she thinks friends are wonderful, and she doesn’t understand people that dislike others for some sort of prejudice or another before having even met them. That’s not to say she isn’t prone to slight prejudices from time to time as well, but she tries hard to fight it. She thinks everybody deserves a chance, and that if both people try, it’s possible to like each other as different as your views are. May also gets along with most teachers, not because she sucks up to them like she hates when people do, but because she’s generally a friendly person. She doesn’t seek trouble, and isn’t rude to adults; she loves to smile as well, and it’s hard not to like somebody that’s always smiling.
• GULLIBLE •
Because of May’s honesty policy and blind eye to liars everywhere, she is constantly a victim of those lies, because she is the world’s most gullible person ever. She believes almost anything that she’s told, as ridiculous as it may be, whoever it be that’s saying it. Her first thought would be that they’re telling the truth, otherwise why would they be saying it, right? She would never immediately think that she’s being lied to, no matter what reputation the person has, no matter what everybody else might say. Gullible has gotten her into trouble in the past, and most undoubtedly will do so again in the future; she’s been hurt and she’s hurt friends because she’s believed something that isn’t true. However, she also has a reputation for being gullible, so her closest friends know not to blame her entirely for saying something that she honestly believes is true. And even though May knows that she’s gullible and knows that people don’t always tell the truth, she doesn’t want to become one of those people’s that’s always distrusting others, being suspicious of everything all the time, so she goes along with it, and hopes that she’s not being deceived.
• TOMBOY •
Having grown up in a family with two older brothers that were always having rough fun and treating her like a baby, May has always wanted to be a part of the ‘in’ crowd, which consisted of her two brothers. Naturally, she’s always admired them and respected and looked up to them, being older than her. She saw the things that they did as the most fun you could have, and that never wore off. Since little, she was in the middle of war games, and rolling around in the mud, and swinging off trees, and playing tackle football; and she loved it. She went to the beach and saw girls her age lying around on towels soaking up the sun and felt sorry for how lame their lives were, when she was building sand castles and having sand fights with her brothers. That isn’t to say that May doesn’t like girl things; just not overly so. She hates makeup and heels and gossiping and drama, but she does like to have slumber parties and talk on the phone until late hours of the night with her girlfriends, and talk boys. But even at seventeen years of age, May would much rather be swinging a Quidditch bat or running around the grounds or exploring the Forbidden Forest than braiding each other’s hair or planning outfits for the next party. She does like to get dressed up from time to time, and she does like to look pretty and be called so, it’s just not her main priority. The same goes for the food issue; May loves to eat. It’s fun and satisfying and the taste of food in her mouth is awesome; luckily for her, she also loves to eat stuff that’s actually healthy, as well as the non-healthy stuff, so obesity has never been a problem for her, because of the whole ‘can’t sit still’ thing she has going for her. She doesn’t understand girls that are always freaking about how many calories each item has and whether or not they should eat it, or how many sit ups they’ll have to do after doing so. For her, it’s: want and do.
• DARING •
Somewhat related to the fact that she’s kind of a tomboy, and growing up with two older brothers, is the fact that May never hesitates to take a risk. She adores challenges and adventures and would never turn down a dare. She’s careless in that sense, and never stops to think about whether it might be dangerous – just goes right for it. Yes, she’s gotten in trouble and physically hurt because of this many, many times in the past, and it’s not an issue of pride or wanting to prove herself that she does this – well it was, in the beginning with her brothers, but as she grew up she just kind of got used to taking the risk, seeing what might happen instead of not doing it and then regretting it for the rest of her life. She hasn’t set any limits for herself, and her answer to most questions is ‘why not?’ which is another policy she lives by as well as the honesty thing. Being daring, though, got her into a complicated thing for the rest of her life, though. Once, when she was five, her brother Prosper told her she probably couldn’t fit into a cupboard because she was too fat. To prove him wrong, May did, and barely fit, but did. Prosper shut the door on her and leaned against it for more than a minute. May felt like she was suffocating, like every corner of the cupboard was pressing in on her, like she couldn’t breathe or move, that she’d never come out alive. She didn’t speak for the rest of the day, and was a claustrophobic the rest of her life. Something else is that May is completely against mushy romance. She really doesn’t like corny or cheesy or when guys are all gooey and saying cute things all the time or stuff like that; romance novels and movies, totally not her thing. She’d much rather do action or sci-fi. As for relationships, she likes a guy that’s spontaneous, that can come up with original ideas and stuff for her; that’s not repetitive, stuff that she doesn’t expect. She likes it when she’s surprised, when someone’s unpredictable; it keeps her interested. And her ideal idea of a date would be a walk somewhere or maybe even a picnic; nothing too mushy.
• INDEPENDENT •
May has always been and still is entirely independent. She hates relying on people to do stuff for her, and although she doesn’t think that ‘if you want the job done right you have to do it yourself’, she loves to figure stuff out on her own and the feeling of accomplishment that she did it herself with no help is very satisfactory for her. She detests people that think she can’t do something because of her age, gender, or whatever it may be; to be underestimated is something she honestly despises. Because of this, and the honesty thing, May never cheats off people; if she didn’t do an assignment, she’d rather brave the consequences than pretend to have done it. Also, she doesn’t like receiving help from people; advice, physical help, whatever it may be. She’s not the kind of person to go to somebody else when she’s in trouble, or having some sort of problem; she’d just keep it to herself and try to figure out a way to face and overcome it. Self issues are the only things that she’s not always honest about, because to her, it’s a good reason not to get other people to worry about her or appear like she’s weak in that sense, and she’s not hurting anybody if it’s she that’s having the problems in the first place. ‘I’m fine’ is a phrase commonly heard from her. But because, again, of the honesty policy, she’s a terrible liar, so even if she pretends she’s fine, people can often tell that she’s not. May hates guys that think they have to do everything for the girls; pay, open doors, help off cars or whatever, carry a purse, please. She’s sort of a feminist in that sense, and will straight up tell the guy that no, she won’t let him do that, thank you very much, she’s good.

History:
• SABINE BAPTISTE – mother •
• TYBALT BELL - father •
• KYLE BELL (20) - brother •
• PROSPER BELL (19) - brother •
The story of Sabine and Tybalt’s romance is quite a tragic one. Sabine’s older sister, Camille, was in Tybalt Bell’s junior class in college. They instantly fell in love with each other and started dating. They dated for the entirety of their junior year, their senior year, and when they graduated, Tybalt asked Camille to move in with him, which she did, and they lived together for one year and a half. It was during this period of time that Camille came up with Leukemia. Neither Tybalt nor Camille’s family knew what to do – at the time, there were no cures for it, and she had a pretty bad case of it; incurable. Camille was gracious about it, though. Although she wasn’t happy, of course, she understood that she was to die, and being extremely selfless, only wished the best future for Tybalt. He was devastated. He didn’t know how he could go on with his life after Camille, and mourned for months after she’d died.
During that time, the only person that was constantly by his side, helping him, taking care of him and mourning along, was Sabine. Sabine was Camille’s younger sister by four years. The two had never been exceptionally close, but enough so that Camille’s last request from Sabine was to make sure Tybalt would be alright. Sabine did so, and she kept Tybalt company for the whole two years after that. Is it wrong that they fell in love? Tybalt relied on Sabine for everything, and she had all the care that her sister had for him herself, and she got to know him, and see him every day and fell for him as well. Tybalt’s proposal wasn’t very official per say; he asked her to keep him company for the rest of their lives, and she accepted. They got legally married a year after that, and although her parents weren’t happy that their other daughter was getting married to Camille’s ex-boyfriend, there was nothing they could say to persuade her to change her mind. Sabine believed that she was destined to be with Tybalt. And so they did.
One year later after the happy marriage, Sabine gave birth to a beautiful baby boy that they named Kyle; Tybalt was joyful with his son and the proudest father ever. A year after that, Prosper was born. Tybalt and Sabine went on living happily together, building up their family and future; they both got jobs and had a good income to support the family. After the birth of Prosper, they moved to a larger country house outside of London, where they planned to have a third child. However, when Kyle was two and Prosper one, Sabine had a miscarriage, and lost her other baby. Both parents were too devastated to try again that year.
So it was the year after that, when Kyle was three, and Prop two, that Sabine managed to get pregnant again, and after a healthy pregnancy, Maylene was born on April 15th. May grew up always looking up to her older brothers, wanting to be part of their games, their sports, and always treated like the baby girl that she didn’t want to be treated like. Her parents loved them all and went out on family activities, raced around on bikes, and stuff. When she was six years old, Prosper told her she probably couldn’t fit into a cupboard because she was too fat. The year after that, May turned seven and in her birthday party, something strange happened. She was extremely proud that she was a year older, closer to being grown up like her brothers, so when Kyle walked up to her, towering over her and told her she was still a baby, May got so upset and disappointed that she ran to her room and started crying. When Sabine forced Kyle to apologize, and May came out of her room, she was half a foot taller. Nobody could explain how it had happened, and they were all very freaked out by it. May on the other hand, thought it was awesome, even though she had no idea what happened, either. She was as tall as Prop, and she was happy. That was her first sign of magic.
Events like this happened all through the next three years of her life, until her parents were convinced that the girl had some sort of powers or weird something. They weren’t too happy about the idea, and they were worried that something was wrong with her, but they took her to doctors and nobody could find anything wrong with the girl. Sabine was the one that was most scared by this development, and when May was ten years old, an argument started up between her and Tybalt, which became more heated than usual. The fight lasted for nearly a week where they didn’t speak to each other, and things were never the same after that. About two months later, Sabine said she’d had enough, and that Tybalt needed to go. Tybalt still loved Sabine, and he loved his children, and he didn’t want to leave the house; when he told Sabine this, she was furious. That night, she left May a gold bracelet that had been hers as a girl, and a note to each of her children, and they never saw her again. Sabine and Tyler signed the divorce papers that year, and aside from a few letters from their mother, they never heard of her again, either.
Tybalt was left with the full responsibility of a witch in the family, of whom he didn’t know what to do. Thankfully for him, the day May turned eleven, Professor Dumbledore showed up at their doorstep. And the rest is history.
