{ A B O U T . T H E . C H A R A C T E R } Name: Nola Jean Rowan Age: 17 Gender: Female Year: 7th Face Claim: Emmy Rossum
Canon or Original? Original
Facial Properties: Nola is very pale, but not sickly looking with eyes the color of well-brewed tea and wildly curly hair a deep auburn brown. Her teeth, although straight and pristine, are rather large. Her eyes are wide, almost dear-in-the-headlights-esque with thick eyelashes. She doesn't like to wear a lot of makeup, just a bit of foundation and mascara, possibly lipstick or gloss. She has the type of smile that lights up a room and a friendly face.
Physique: She's not tall at all, a little over five-foot. She's thin and possibly underweight, but healthy and even though she's a bit short, she has long arms and legs. The thin and short stature runs in her family; her mother is inches shorter than her but her father is rather tall. As a small joke, she curses her mother's family for shrinking her bones.
Wand Type: Rowan wood, 12.3 inches, Kelpie Mane hair Wand Expertise: Charms Patronus: Manatee Boggart: Needles Personality: Nola is the definition of 'free spirit.' She is absolutely her own person. She's rather a goof and really loves to have fun. But she's not a party-er; she mostly enjoys games and social events. Nola has a very fun sense of humor. Although she is a social being, she can also be quite solitary. Studying is very important to her because she feels that being in Hogwarts is a privilege, not a right. She is generally smart and sometimes like to flaunt that fact but doesn't make a huge show out of it. She is very proud of her grades and know-how.
Because she values her friends, she can kind of be loyal to a fault. If anyone says something rubbish about her friends, she's the first one to sort of get into their face and tell them that they can't say that. She will stand up for her friends and family until she's blue in the face.
Honesty is probably her best--and worst--quality. Nola's philosophy is 'I want to make everyone worth the truth. If I lie to someone it's because I feel that they're not worth my time and efforts.' It can be her worst quality because she's lost many a friend by being far too honest. But she's proud of her razor tongue because if they can't handle the truth, they can't handle themselves.
Because she's so honest, she has the ability to basically tear someone apart without even touching them. Even one look could send small children running for a stranger who looks safe. Her pretty face can turn not-so-pretty very fast. She doesn't use this trait unless she's been hurt or someone's hurt someone close to her.
She believes in herself, as well, which can also go as far as to be a fault. She's not generally full of herself, but she's very aware of her abilities and smarts to a point that can get her into a lot of trouble. But she usually avoids trouble very well just by speaking. She talks a lot.
Likes: + Books + Friends + Music + Cooking + Sleeping! + Learning + Social events + Dancing (although rather badly) + Writing + Art Dislikes: – Stupid people – Liars – Back stabbers – Needles – Blood – Chalk against Chalk board – Egotistical jerks – Neglectful parents – Zombies – Sparkling Vampires
History:Nola was born to Anne and Charles Rowan in West London, England. There, she was put in a private all-girls school and shoved into every beauty pageant imaginable by her mother. At the age of six, she told her mother that she no longer enjoyed these pageants and was sent to perform in the local opera house. She was upset about this at first, being put into something she wasn't exactly fond of because her mother wanted it, but she quickly made friends and sang in over twenty different operas in more than five languages until she turned eleven and received her letter from Hogwarts.
When she wasn't showing her daughter off, Anne didn't know what to do with herself. At a young age, Nola decided that her mother needed to stop living through her. She was very mature for such a young child. But she loved her mother dearly and therefore decided to put up with her theatrics. Of course, it wasn't as though she had much of a choice.
Nola was always most close to her father. She confided everything in him, especially her dislike for the pageants. He tried to talk to her mother, but she would hear nothing of it; to her, her daughter was the most beautiful being to have ever walked the Earth. Nola would do everything her mother never had the chance to. To Nola, she was a child. She wanted to do what other kids did; she didn't see herself as anything special. She won four of the multiple pageants she was in from the age of two to six.
When she received her letter from Hogwarts, her father was thrilled. Her mother was less than because she only child would be leaving. Charles spoke to her, reminded her that it was just like a boarding school for special children, with the emphasis on special because he knew that the word would hook her. It did and Anne threw herself into the preparation with more enthusiasm than what was necessary and for the first time, Nola welcomed it gladly.
Sample Post: The Christmas parties at Hogwarts were always a delight. Clad in a deep Gryffindor red dress with white dress robes over top and her wild curls pinned back away from her face, she looked a Christmas vision. She felt a Christmas nightmare. None of her friends were able to make it, so she stood in the middle of the room, sipping butter beer alone.
Nola ducked and skittered behind a group of her people as fast as she could while wearing heels. Bending over was not an option; her dress was too short. Professor Snape had spotted her; she still owed him several detentions for speaking out of turn in his class. She had somehow avoided all of them and wondered why he hadn't caught her yet.
She peeked out from behind the group of unknown people, probably seventh years, and cringed. He'd seen her and was walking swiftly toward her. She straightened up and pretended to be looking at something interesting on the wall behind her.
"Miss Rowan." His voice was like velvet and she wondered if she was the only one who noticed this.
"Professor," She choked and spin around to face him. He stood several inches taller than her and she had to arch her neck in her order to look at him properly. "I was just looking for you, sir. I--"
"Yes, I'm sure you were, Miss Rowan. You realize that you have managed to avoid three detentions now? And you've earned yourself two more. Every Saturday. Eight O'clock. Do not be late or it will be three more." He spun away from her and she cursed herself for being such an idiot.
