ABOUT THE CHARACTER Name: Neil Reinard Age: 31 Gender: Male Class: Potions Celebrity: Colin Farrell
Facial Properties: Seemingly young-looking for his age, Neil has constantly been said to look as if he is in his 20s instead of his early 30s. He has a slightly oval-esque face, complete with a strong chin and sharp nose. His eyes are a soft brown color, a quality from his mother, the rest from his father. His hair is black, short and kept in a sort of upswept in the front, and spiky all around. His chin is covered in a light stubble, forming up into a slight mustache, a great pride to the man. Physique: Besides his young appearance, one thing that Reinard enjoys to point out to all who will listen, and even some who won't, is his modestly muscular physique. Now, how is he able to keep in shape with a career in Potions? Well, during the summer, he spends time with his nieces and nephews, playing Quidditch and basically keeping them out of trouble, a job more difficult than it actually seems. Moving away from the talk of muscles, Reinard stands at a slight height of 5'12, sadly just a bit taller than most of his students.
Personality: There are no words to describe the enormous flirt that Neil is. He playfully flirts with any woman in the castle, be it student or teacher, believing his body to be irresistible. In class, he adores blaming his students passing and failing grades on his wondrous face, saying that their constant focus on mans greatest creation was the reason. His narcissism causes him to haughtily walk around the school as if he is some idol and all eyes were constantly on him.
Other than being quite the egoist, Neil is completely serious with his job, finding Potions to be a most wondrous career. Always fascinated with the making of elixirs, poisons (to threaten his nieces and nephews), and other potions, he quickly applied for the job after his years at Hogwarts were finished. He is very passionate about his work, grading his students hard to push them to succeed, though it may not always work, that's when his vanity comes into play.
Another 'charming' quality of our dear Professor is his inability to admit his faults. Unable to admit if he's wrong, he simply waves off whatever was said, moving on to a different subject. His stubbornness usually lands him in trouble with the other teachers and infuriates his students, but Reinard continues to wave them off. His intelligence in Potions leads him to act as such, believing that he is unrivaled by the other Professors since they are not teaching his class. Students who correct get the same treatment, and the fun-loving man suddenly disappears, leaving an irritable, moody teacher.
Reinard could be called 'bipolar', seeing how easily it is to make him angry. Saddening really. All one has to do is contradict something he has said and he explodes, taking marks off students and snapping at anyone he encounters. You could say that his mood swings come from his mother. His temper, hard to control, has earned him a few owls from concerned parents whose 'wonderful' children are afraid that he'll poison them because they contradicted him. These letters simply go into the boiling cauldron, having a calming effect on the man. Another way he Neil calms down is to drink a few Butterbeers in his office, the warm feeling returning him to his narcissistic self. Likes:- Mostly all of the female population of Hogwarts, including those at Hogsmeade and his playful run-ins with the Hogwarts ghosts.
- Drinking Butterbeers and the occasional Firewhiskey with his fellow teachers and staff.
- Flaunting his good looks and wondrous body to all who are around.
- Taking off points and giving detentions whenever his mood changes.
- Walks along the grounds. He enjoys watching the giant squid and watching the Quidditch teams practice.
- Complete and total attention when he is teaching, along with quiet students.
- Trying to form new potions, though he has been unsuccessful thus far.
- Christmas vacation. He enjoys putting spells all through the castle to give it the snowy, Christmastime air.
- Going to Hogsmeade and getting sweets from Honeydukes.
-
Dislikes:- Contradiction.
- Grading work, paperwork, or any type of work that involves him writing on parchment.
- Firewhiskey (to an extent).
- Having students who fail his class or at least are doing poorly.
- Softspoken students (tries to get them to speak up) and noisy students.
- Going to the Owlery to deliver letters. Why does it have to be infested with droppings? Does no one ever clean up there?
- People who complain over small things, such as; homework. (Though he does it when he gets loads of work)
- The dungeons. The dark and dreary nature of where his class is puts a damper on his attitudes in most cases.
- Not looking his best on a daily basis. He spends most of his time on his looks, sometimes falling behind in his work and cramming in like his students.
History: Born into a family of five, Neil being the youngest out of his other two sisters, he was the blessing they had always been waiting for. Their two older daughters were remarkable at their studies, however, the Reinard family had always wished for a boy to continue their line. Aware of his magical heritage, but raised to keep it secret from muggles, Neil spent most of his childhood being taught the basic facts of life from muggle schools (to keep up appearances), and wizarding skills by his family.
Throughout his childhood, Neil slowly began to become sort of a womanizer, adorable at his young age. It began with his sisters, listening to their boyfriends woo them with gifts and sweet nothings. He tried his best to imitate them, only succeeding in entertaining his family and whomever he tried to "make the moves" on. As he grew older, his womanizing only grew, though not to a drastic point. On occasions, he was able to woo his sisters, mother, and a few other women and young girls. Some would even respond to his sweet talk, playfully telling him that he would have to wait until he was older. Sadly, and perhaps for the best, his effect on women slowly began to fade when he became 11 and was accepted into Hogwarts. It seemed that the girls there didn't respond well to having sweet nothings whispered in their ears.
Upon his acceptance into Hogwarts, his sisters already in their sixth and seventh years, it was no surprise that he ended up in the family house of Slytherin, quickly making friends thanks to interference from his siblings. His years at Hogwarts passed by with ease, his grades remarkable, though he excelled amazingly in one class, Potions. Always having had a knack for the class, he became addicted, signing up for the N.E.W.T in his seventh year. His parents were proud of their sons success, sending him sweets for his ever-growing sweet tooth.
After Neil left Hogwarts, he traveled for a bit, still stuck on what he wanted to do for a career. He dabbled around, working at St. Mungo's, the Ministry, and even at Hogsmeade, but none kept him entertained for long. It wasn't until he saw the ad in the Daily Prophet that he decided what he wanted to do. The ad was from Hogwarts, requesting a Potions teacher. Potions! He adored the class back when he was in school, so why not teach it? He applied for the job immediately, finding it to be an even greater joy to teach than to actually learn. Resume: Having no previous experience as a teacher, Neil Reinard has always had a high interest in Potions, finding it to be an astounding class and his academic specialty. Throughout his years in Hogwarts, he received good marks in the class, passing it with an 'O' on his N.E.W.T.S. His other classes were similar, though he was more passionate about his favorite, spending time in the library to study up on potions and mixtures that they hadn't bothered to learn. After Hogwarts, he dabbled around in various jobs, going abroad, working at St. Mungo's, the Ministry, and more, but found them to be a bore. He was astounded to see, on a visit home from Albania, that Hogwarts was searching for a Potions teacher. The ad caught his interest, sending him straight to Dumbledore to request the job.
