Name: Cain Amsel
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Year: 7th
Face Claim: Kevin Zegers
Canon or Original? Original
Facial Properties:
The males of the Amsel line all have one thing in common, their eyes. Cain has clear gray eyes just like his father and his father’s father and so on. His nose is straight and fairly narrow, though still masculine. Cain has pale skin, something from his family’s long line of Irish and English heritage, without freckles or any scarring from acne. His chin is fairly small but still strong, usually covered in a light fuzz of chin hair. Cain keeps his dark brown, fairly straight hair at a medium length and usually untouched by any kind of product. Though, he has been known to style his hair on occasion.
Physique:
Cain isn’t short at 5’9, but he still won’t be the tallest guy you’ll ever meet. His weight is average, making Cain neither over nor under weight. In fact, he has a wiry, thin build and is fairly fit from his swordplay and tendency to explore surrounding areas on foot. A slight amount of body hair covers his chest and marks his so-called ‘happy trail’. Cain’s legs are fairly well defined, as are his arms, though not overly muscled.
Wand Type: 11 ¾ blackthorn, reasonably springy, with a Thestral hair core
Wand Expertise: Defensive Magic
Patronus: Crow
Boggart: Maggie’s dead body rising up and telling him that it’s his fault she’s dead
Personality: Cain is far from being some country bumpkin. Practically from birth his father made sure Cain was getting the best education possible. Inside his head is a library of information, sadly he can only be coerced to access this information when it benefits him in some way. His intense education isn’t being used for heightening the estate or working his way up in the world like his father hoped, but rather for figuring how to cheat others and how to hit seven keggers before he’s expected home that evening. It can be assumed, and is correct if you did, that Cain puts none of his intelligence towards his school work. He barely skims by in all of classes, completing only enough work so that he can pass into the next grade level.
Knowing of his intelligence only adds to his ego. Cain has a superiority complex, strongly believing at this point of his life that his family name, wealth, and blood status make him better than most. He hoards his status and has no problem using it to further himself in life rather than working for it. Cain’s wealth and family open many doorways for him, and as long as they suit his purpose he has no problem with it.
Despite his ego, Cain is still a very social person. His fake charms and good looks make it easy for Cain to make friends. He enjoys parties and flirting with pretty girls. Be wary if you make friends with cain though, he is indeed the worst kind of user. He’s the type that will go to lunch and conveniently forget his wallet every time. If you have something he wants, be it money, boozes, or power, he’ll act as if he’s your most loyal friend… But the moment he has what he wants then he is finished with you. Cain sees no problem is double crossing a, so-called, friend or having an affair with their love.
Women, ah women. They are one thing that Cain enjoys above all else. Especially gorgeous women… But enjoying women doesn’t mean he treats them well. No woman will ever live up to Cain’s now idealized vision of Maggie, and because of that he feels there is nothing wrong with using them and throwing them away once he’s had his fun. While a woman holds his intrest, before he realizes they’re not like Maggie, he treats them as if they’re queens. Once the realization comes though, he’ll cheat on them and do everything he can to drive them away.
Maggie… Maggie… Maggie… She’s the one person in the world that Cain holds above himself. Everything he does, Cain does because of her. Maggie is who Cain judges all women against, but in the time since her passing he’s idealized her so much that it’s now impossible for anyone to live up to his flawless image of her. Her death caused his intense hatred of anyone even remotely related to Muggles, if he discovered his own mother was a Mudblood he’d probably kill himself out of shame. Her death did bring him a certain shame though. Cain lives every day hating himself for not being there. He was supposed to be there the night she died, was supposed to have been walking her home. He believes that if he had been there Maggie would still be alive. It is his greatest fear that in the afterlife Maggie now blames him for her death.

History: The Amsel family has something of a tradition… Only male descendants may be considered part of the Amsel family, the oldest of descendants is the heir, and no man of the Amsel name ever marries. Cain’s father, Addison, followed all of these when it came time to get himself an heir.
Addison searched for days in search of the perfect woman to bear his heir, and at the age of 25 he found her. She caught his eye at Gringotts, her dark hair and eyes, pale skin, and shapely figure was entrancing. He followed her and studied her for weeks before making his move. Her name was Catherine LeVitt, she was 20 and from America; she had just transferred to England because of her new job at a Floo powder production company. She was a second generation witch, had been the lead in all of her classes, and had no living family. She was perfect.
He made his move on a Tuesday, dressing casually and initiating conversation at a bar she frequented. He lied to Catherine, said his name was Tom and he was there vacationing. What would follow that evening was the best year of Catherine’s life, not that he let her remember them once it was all done. After a fabulous three months, Catherine became pregnant. Addison, still until the false pretense of Tom, whisked her away to the countryside with promises of marriage once their child was born. She lived a lavish lifestyle for nine months, and Addison prepared things for his heir.
Finally, the day arrived that Cain Nolan Amsel was born into the world. Addison held his son, and after inspection that the boy had no deformities, felt proud of himself that he brought such a child into the world. The proud father waited only until Catherine had been mended before wiping her memory of the last year and dropping her somewhere in the streets. Now that Addison had his heir, he had no further use of the woman.
This, of course, was not the story that Addison would later tell Cain when he questioned about his lack of a motherly figure. Addison wove for him a story about a beautiful, pureblood woman who died giving birth to her long awaited and deeply cared for child.
Cain was raised to be the perfect heir for his father. He spent much of his days indoors and learning mathematics, literature, history, Muggle sciences, foreign languages, the basics of dueling (both with swords and spells), and proper social skills for a person of his social class. On his few days of freedom, Cain wandered the land that surrounded his family’s estate in search of knightly adventures.
It was during one such childhood escapade that Cain met his soulmate. Magdelina Rose Sawyer was gorgeous to seven year old Cain from the start. He approached the girl shyly, unsure of what to say to such a creature. Maggie, as the little girl preferred to be called, found Cain’s quiet nature strange and creepy. She reacted to his approach as she saw fitting, by chucking a rather slimy frog at face and screaming for her older brother. Osmund Alexis Sawyer came rushing to his sister’s defense and, purely in defense of his little sister of course, broke the stranger’s nose.
Despite this first meeting Cain, Maggie, and Ozzy (as Osmund preferred to be called) became fast friends. The three were entirely inseparable, if one of the children were about you could bet that the other two weren’t far away. It was from his two new friends that Cain learned about the good in Muggles and witches and wizards of mixed blood.
The years flew by, and before the children could realize it Cain was off to Hogwarts. Maggie and Ozzy went with Cain to the platform to wish him farewell, but couldn’t follow him on to the train because their parents had decided to homeschool their little witch and wizard. Cain wrote to his friends regularly, owling them at least twice a week of various things going on at school and how much he couldn’t wait until they were all together again.
Cain matured quickly, growing tall and handsome as he grew from child into teen. It was coming home after his fourth year at school that Cain realized something strange. Maggie was no longer the little tomboy she’d once been. His childhood playmate had grown into a beautiful redhaired goddess. Cain fell in love.
It took half the summer for Cain to get Maggie alone, let alone admit his feelings for her. When he did Maggie wasn’t very surprised, she explained to him that she’d known from the start that they were meant to be. He asked her why she’d thrown a frog at him then, and Maggie explained that she’d been flirting.
Life was heaven for Cain from that moment on, except for at home that is. Addison had barely approved of the two mudblood children as friends to Cain, so the idea that his son was now dating them was completely out of the question in his mind. Addison confronted Cain, telling the younger wizard that if he was going to continue living in his house that he was going to disassociate himself with the two mudblood children. Cain told his father that was fine, he would simply move out and live somewhere with Maggie.
Cain packed his things and contacted Maggie, who happily agreed to live with him. Ozzy was alright with the situation as well, as long as he to could join them in their new home. So, the three friends found themselves a flat and moved in. Everything seemed perfect.
But then, as it so often does, tragedy struck and ruined any possible future Cain had with Maggie. On her way back to the flat from her new job Maggie encountered a homeless Muggle and tried to help him to a shelter. The man, strung out on drugs, saw Maggie as some kind of threat and attacked her with a knife he kept to defend himself. Maggie was stabbed in the stomach multiple times before the man fled.
Maggie’s death affected Cain and Ozzy deeply. Cain suddenly found himself seeing all Muggles and anyone that was part Muggle at fault for Maggie’s death. He hated the and started to see them as less than human, with no more intelligence or worth than a common household pet. Ozzy started to blame Cain for his younger twin’s death, after all Cain was supposed to walk home Maggie after she got off work. It was because of him not being with her that Maggie was attacked and died. The friends became estranged and Cain returned to his father’s home.
Cain became wild after that time, he lost interest in his studies and found he could lose himself in drugs, parties, and sex. No girl was Maggie, therefore it didn’t matter how he treated them. He started to attack and challenge Mudbloods around Hogwarts, showing in his mind his superiority to them.
He decided then that he would make them all pay.
Sample Post: (from Keller)
Keller was impatiently counting down to the time when her shift would end and she could lock up the shop before going off to do some things she wanted to. The day had been hell so far and she couldn’t imagine it getting much worse. When she’d gotten up this morning at some unholy hour before sunrise it had been under the idea that the morning shift would be the only one she’d have to work that day. The shift went as expected, with its usual mix of pleasant and less than likeable customers and a few familiar faces, and she was glad when it ended and she could go off to lunch. No such luck, sadly. Her boss came out from his office in the back of the shop to inform Keller that the employee working the evening shift had called in sick and she would have to cover it. The evening shift had not gone as well as her first shift. Keller could have sworn that every asshole and idiot in all of England had found their way to the shop that evening. She was more than ready for the clock to strike nine-o’-clock so she could go to the Leaky Cauldron for dinner and head back to her flat above the shop for a long evening of sleep.Looking at the clock, Keller let out an impatient groan. “God dammit!” she snapped when she noticed that not even a minute had gone by since she last checked the clock. Keller raised up her hands and wiggled her fingers at the clock disdainfully “Hurry up you!” she urged before letting her arms drop to her sides. “Great, I’m talking to a clock…” she said with a sigh “And even worse, I’m now talking to myself about talking to a clock. Merlin, I’m a nutter!” she whined.
Suddenly the bell above the door jingled and Keller raised her head to greet the customer. Looking at the tall and creepy seeming man, Keller temporarily found herself at a loss for words. Something about the man made her want to hide under the counter with her wand at the ready, but it was reactions like that that made a girl lose a job she really couldn’t live without. “Good evening, Sir. What is that I can do to help you?” she greeted through a nervous smile.
The man looked at Keller and made sure to make eye contact, it was a bit creepy actually how intensely he was staring at her. “Asphodel, wormwood, valerian roots, sopophorous bean.” the man told her, never breaking eye contact. Keller’s eyebrows raised slightly and she looked at the customer suspiciously.
“Sir, you have to have a license to buy those spell ingredients.” She told him slowly, her nervousness starting to become apparent in her voice.
“I don’t got no license.” He sneered and moved closer to Keller “Just sell me the ingredients and I’ll be on my merry way.”
Keller settled her hand on her wand and backed up behind the counter until her back bumped against the wall behind her. “Sir, I’m going to have to ask you to leave now… You’re welcome to return when you have a license though…”
The man moved forwards and set his hands on the counter, one hand tightly gripping his wand. “I said I ain’t got no license, now sell me the fucking ingredients or I’m going to have to take them from you!” he bellowed angrily.
