Why thank you, although I must say, my lineage is partly pure as you would consider it. My mother traces back a to the finest; but those kinds of things seem less important to me than the actual person I suppose. To each his own, more or less.
And I must whole-heartedly agree, Hogwarts should be a little more peticular about their entrants. I've seen some that I truly wonder if they think of it as mearly a game to play, wasting their talents.

Exactly. Beliefs are just that: beliefs. But then again, you must be careful wat you believe in. You do not want to fall off the edge of foolishness. You never know where you'll find yourself.
Sadly, I don't think Professor Dumbledore shares our same perspective.
Oh, things can get worse. For there are people who aren't even aware of what they have, and the greatness they could achieve if only they cared. It's frustrating and infuriating. But see, you've just discovered why, sometimes, you can find me hexing someone without an apparent motive.

Foolish things to one person are like treasure to others. I don't think it's for one person to judge - but there are definate fools and intelligent people. You just have to know which is which.
I think Dumbledore tries his best, but in doing that lets some people slip through that don't appreciate what they have. I can honestly say I hate some people with a passion.
Ah, a small glimpse of Narcissa's mind. It does humor me with some things, but I can also find venturng into other people's craniums is often very dangerous. I suppose we both share that easy button that gets pushed when someone wastes what they have.

Which is which depends on the perspective of the person. Certainly Potter doesn't consider my cousin a fool as much as I do. It's all a vicious circle really. Because the perspective depends on their beliefs, and their beliefs depend on who they spend their time with and who you spend your time with depends on who you think worthy & so on & so forth. Are you seeing a pattern here?
No comments on the Dumbledore area.
It is only dangerous if you're afraid you're not as sure as yourself as you pretend to be. Venturing into another person's personality by observation or confessions only gives you knowledge. And isn't knowledge powerful? How can you fear such a thing?

Potter eh? Quite a few comments could be said on that matter - but one is for certain, he is a fool. I think he often corrupts those around him. Although I do share some of the same ideals as he, and thus, I don't think your cousin is too far lost. Without individual freedom, we would all be slaves to the same ideas. It would be a communist world, that I sure as hell don't want to live in.
Knowledge is very powerful, Narcissa. And power kills people. That is why I don't like it in large doses, because it only goes to your head. People can be ambitous and dedicated for more - perhaps more power, more strength, more anything. But they have to know when enough is too much.
Of course if you know how to use power for something more than yourself, or even not at all - then it's a good back-up if ever you needed it. I much rather know more and keep it to myself, than know little and wave it around for everyone to see.

A fool? A cunning fool indeed. For he knows what he's doing for all his pretenses of having no clue. He can be Gryffindor's pride all you like, he still has too much of other Houses for me to be comfortable without knowing what he's up to. My cousin is a double fool for allowing himself to be manipulated as nothing but a mere puppet. Nothing good will come out of that, I assure you.
It only goes to your head if you allow it to permeate your senses. Anyone knows that. It's about control. So do you fear your self-control more than you do knowledge? Or you fear knowledge because you fear you don't have enough self-control?

I'll leave any comments to myself on that matter.
I do not fear either of those. I fear what other people do. I know I can control myself, but what about everyone else? People are reckless, and because of that, I trust few. It's self-survival.

Then you should embrace knowledge. As simple as that.
There's no reason for you not to.
