He learned Defence, along with a myriad of Charms, and he became rather good at it. It is only logical now that he wishes to continue this education if only to further that explicit purpose. Why Are You Interested in Charms?
The subtleties of the subject have always attracted Vonna. And the fact that it is one of the requirements for the Ministry's Official Auror Training Scheme which she wants to get into after Hogwarts and pursue her ambition in her chosen profession. Plus, the subject is almost therapeutic and very practical, many of the charms picked up in class are useful to life in general especially to her career, i.e., the Disillusionment Charm. Why Are You Interested in Charms? Almost all every-day spells are 'Charms'. Severus loves the subject and because it's so important he feels it would be stupid not to take it.
