a b o u t . t h e . c h a r a c t e r ! Name: Lilah Marie Jackson Date of Birth: June 30, 1962 Gender: Female Year: 5 Face Claim: Lauren Conrad
Canon or Original? Original
Distinguishing Physical Features:
face! There is nothing particularly unique about Lilah's face. Her skin is a naturally ivory shade, but she tans easily over the summer months because she’s outside so much. Above Lilah’s eyes are a pair of light brown eyebrows, naturally arched, not too thick or thin. Her eyes are round in shape and are a mix of different colors – dark blue around her iris, then a lighter shade of blue that almost looks grey, with specks of gold here and there. If there's anything interesting about her face, it's her eyes - although they're not as stunning as big baby blues, there's something about them that pulls you in. She uses make up regularly – moderate amounts because she doesn’t like feeling like a clown - but doesn’t mind going with out it. Her nose is small and from a certain angle, you can see a little bump on the bridge. She has quite a few freckles splattered across her nose and under her eyes, which becomes more noticeable in the summer time after she’s tanned. Her cheeks are often a light pink shade because she blushes much more than she likes. She has white, straight teeth, and a nice smile – which she actually doesn’t like, but that doesn’t stop her from grinning ear to ear anyway.
hair! Lilah has nice hair. Really nice hair. It's naturally a light brownish, dark blonde color, somewhere in between, a fair mix of both. If you look close enough, and if it's sunny, you'll probably even see some reddish, more auburn hair. Her hair is considerably thicker than normal, which makes it a bit of a pain to style sometimes, but she's learned to work with it. It's long, falling just below her shoulder blades, and she wears it in all sorts of different ways, whether it be up or down or straight or curled, Lilah loves doing her hair. She is strictly against the use of hair spray, though, because she doesn't like her hair feeling clumpy. She also uses different natural hair treatments to keep it healthy, shiny, and strong. And she never goes without a little ribbon. Ever. Wearing a ribbon in her hair is her trademark, and you should see her ribbon collection - if she had the choice, she would probably pack an entire trunk's worth of ribbons and haul them with her wherever she went.
petite ! Lilah wasn't exactly gifted with long legs. She comes in only at about 5'1/2", making her one of the shortest girls in her year - something she's actually okay with. I mean, being short has its advantages! You can curl into tiny places, and hide a lot easier than big people, and since you're so little you can always count on the guy being taller, which she loves. She likes tall guys, especially the ones over 6' - what, she likes having to get up on her tippy toes for kisses, or having to grab them by the shirt and drag them down! Or, even better yet - getting picked up. She loves that. Lilah has little everything. Little boobs - maybe 34B, to be precise. Little feet - size five. Little hands - well, we don't do sizes for hands, but when she shops for gloves and mittens she has to go to the kid's section. Her ring size is a measly 3 (...that is, on the only finger that really matters). She's just a very tiny person. In terms of physique, her body isn't perfect - but she's still rather happy with it. She's not too skinny or dainty, nor is she too toned or athletic. She still even has some baby fat left over from her earlier years. Hopefully, she'll grow an inch or two more and her womanly curves will set in, but she is not particularly impatient for that day to come. She's content with the way she looks; she may not be particularly curvy and desirable like other girls, but she wouldn't know what to do with herself if she were. Hug-able and approachable suit her much better anyway.
Wand Type: Rowan, Fairy Wings & Unicorn Hair, 7 1/3 inches Patronus: African Pygmy Hedgehog Boggart: Being locked in a room full of moths with no way out Personality:
social butterfly ! Who doesn't Lilah want to talk to? Basically no one, really, unless they don't want to talk to her. No, she'd never want to get into a conversation with someone who didn't feel comfortable or didn't like her, mostly because she'd feel bad for putting a damper on their day. A great conversationalist, Lilah can talk to pretty much everyone and always keep the conversation moving, leaving no room for those pesky awkward pauses. She's really genuinely interested in people's days and their lives in general, not for purposes of gossiping or spreading rumors, but simply because she enjoys people. She has no problems making new friends and always puts out the effort to do so, complimenting people in the hallways and smiling and saying hello to absolute strangers. In class, she's a bit of a chatterbox, but only when they have free time. It's one of her biggest pet peeves when people talk when the teacher is talking, so she avoids it. When she sees anyone doing anything that catches her attention, she'll say something about it; really, she has no boundaries when it comes to talking to people. During meals she generally flits around from table to table, making conversation, before returning to her seat next to her best friends. And even if she does talk a lot to basically everyone, she always saves time for those closest to her.
caring ! Lilah puts effort into being a truly good human being as much as she possibly can. She jumps on basically every single opportunity to help people, whether it be handing a girl in the stall over some toilet paper when the roll runs out or volunteering her time working in soup kitchens. It really yanks her heartstrings to see people sad, or unloved, or unwanted, or uncared for, so whenever she sees any indication someone is having a lousy day, she'll do whatever she feels necessary to help. Whether it's just smiling, giving a hug, sitting and listening, or doing something more personal that would really make that person happy, she'll do it. She's very open-minded and empathetic and she tries to put herself into other people's situations to better understand the way they're thinking and why they act the way they do, so it's rare for her to get mad. Even if there's someone she doesn't really like that much who's in trouble, she'll still help. She’s very maternal, and is deeply concerned with the well-being of her friends and family. She’s patient, almost excessively so, and would do anything for the people she loves.
emotional ! Lilah is a crier. She'll admit it. All of her friends know. She just...she cries! Things move her a lot easily than they might other people because she's such an empathetic person. And she obviously can't cry when she gets hurt because of her congenital analgesia, hah, and she doesn't really cry when sad things happen to her, but when sad things happen to other people? Oh, she'll get teary eyed. Sometimes she reads articles in the newspaper, or sees things on the news or in the paper about people dying – such a common occurrence – but she still cries. Sometimes reading the short little obituaries, she cries. Not full-on crying, mind you, just... a few silly little tears. Actually, the things that make her cry don't even really have to be sad - just emotionally moving. Like weddings. Those are beautiful, and so happy! She's at the point that she laughs about it now, because really, it is hilarious, but it annoys her just a little bit too. She feels awfully pathetic a great majority of the time.
responsible ! She's not really uptight or prudish or anything, but she thinks situations over and if her friends are going to run off and do something really stupid, she'll question them, just to be sure they know exactly what they're getting themselves into, and then she'll be the one to follow behind to be sure they don't do anything too rash. She's the friend who'd be the designated driver all the time at parties – only I guess at Hogwarts, she's the one who makes sure her girlfriends don't sleep with boys when they're completely sloshed and holds their hair back when they're puking. If she senses trouble, she'll ask people to put an end to things and proceed to do whatever she can to get them out of said trouble, and if they do get in trouble, she's always the one to talk, explaining the situation [sometimes she lies, even]. Don't get me wrong, Lilah isn't always the poster child for responsible actions. She's not that much of a hard-ass when it comes to rules, as long as people are being safe and not getting hurt, but when it comes to flat out reckless behavior, she's ready to stop it. She's gotten herself into a few sticky situations, but when other people are on the line, she's always looking out for them and using sound judgment.
forgetful ! Lilah is the girl who puts her pencil on a the bedside table, goes to pee, comes back and spends fifteen minutes searching for it. She could really benefit from a Remembrall, because sometimes she thinks she forgot something even though she really hasn't, but she'll spend an entire afternoon wondering about it. Because of her evident forgetfulness, she tries to be as organized as she possibly can to prevent any homework-misplacing incidents. Everything in her bag has its own place, and she automatically puts everything where it goes, no matter what kind of rush she's in. She keeps her trunk organized as well, and never puts anything under the bed or in some mysterious place she'd probably forget. She sometimes forgets conversations, and even though she'd probably never tell someone's secrets, she sometimes forgets those, too. It's not because she doesn't care or because she wasn't listening – she's a great listener, really! - it's just that her memory sorta hates her. That's okay, because she hates her memory back, but it's really aggravating sometimes! Especially when she's trying to study for tests.
confident ! ...Sometimes. I mean, she really has no problem talking to people. Not even a little bit. Sure, she'd probably be a bit intimidated if she was meeting the Queen, but still! Why would she hold back in a conversation with the Queen, think of all the interesting things the woman has done and experienced and seen! She's happy enough with her appearance and isn't afraid to show it off - but never anything too showy. She's great with boys and flirting. She knows what she's good at, she knows what she could improve on, she knows her positive personality traits and she knows her flaws and she embraces all of that and takes it for what it is, but that doesn't change the fact that she is absolutely terrible at standing up for herself. If someone's being a bitch to her, she won't say anything. She just thinks there's something wrong with her, maybe she's having an off day, so why would she blame that and say mean things to another person? When it comes to sticking up for herself, sticking up for her own happiness? She is terrible at it. Plain and simple. And regardless of how hard she works to maintain passing grades, she can't help but feel her efforts are in vain; generally in class when teachers ask her questions, she chokes up, automatically assuming she's wrong. It is, funny though, because even though she has troubles standing up for herself, she can't stand by and watch other people be mean to others. She generally doesn't react negatively towards the person being mean - she just pulls the other person away from that conversation and takes their mind off it.
hard working ! When she wants something, Lilah will definitely do whatever it takes to get it. She really follows through with her goals and works toward them, not only because she views them as a challenge, but also for the satisfaction of actually achieving something. She really believes in the “if you fall, get up and try again” philosophy, and always perseveres. Lilah always works to improve things she knows she can improve on to make herself more versatile, more useful, more helpful, more...well...intelligent. This hard-working side of her can really be a pain in the butt when she gets bad grades [which she does, often] in class, and she spends ridiculous hours studying for the next test and faces disappointment when she does badly again, and then she's just sad. Lilah has never exactly been a great witch, and most of her grades aren't quite as high as she'd like, but she tries not to let it get her down. On a happier note, she's thankful for the side because she knows it'll come in handy for when she tries to get a job in the fashion industry or in journalism one day. She doesn't take the competitive nature of either jobs lightly and knows she'll be faced with disappointments, but she also knows she'll be able to pull through.
loyal ! Fiercely loyal. She's faithful to her friends in every way possible. She doesn't tell their secrets (knowingly, at least), she doesn't back-stab, she doesn't gossip about them behind their backs (well...not bad things), she doesn't hold grudges...well, she doesn't do these things most of the time. It's only something really rare that she lets something slip, but other than that? Lilah is the loyalest of them all. Her friends mean the world to her, and in order to let those relationships flourish, there definitely needs to be a great deal of loyalty involved. She's willing to sacrifice things in order to keep things going smoothly in her relationships with people. She would never, ever, ever give up on a friend, nor would she abandon one, nor would she shut them out or shun them or anything. She'd sacrifice her happiness, her pleasure, her amusement rather than do anything to upset them or hurt them. She generally expects the same behavior from her friends as well, and if she doesn't get it...well, she's a bit of a push-over. She probably wouldn't say anything. ...Which is something she's working on! ...Hah.
pacifist ! Confrontation is probably one of Lilah's least favorite things on the face of the planet. She just doesn't see the sense in meddling around with things and people's happiness just because you're being selfish and want things your way and only your way. She avoids confrontation when possible. Now, don't get me wrong, Lilah isn't afraid to be honest with her friends and tell them how she really feels. She knows her closest friends won’t be upset with her for telling the truth. Lilah isn't the sort of person to start drama just for the sake of starting drama. She's not the person who'd say something mean and hurtful to someone just to say something mean and hurtful. She wouldn't devalue anyone's prized possessions or abilities by scoffing at them and bragging about her own much nicer, fancier, more expensive belongings or abilities, and she wouldn't egg on a fight. People could probably say something really upsetting to her quite a few times and she wouldn't say anything about it, which could be seen as a problem because, well, yeah, there are some girls who have their bitchy moments and Lilah's the sort of girl who'd hold her tongue and not stand up for herself.
creative ! Lilah loves art. Loves, loves, loves. She'd probably live in an art museum if she had the choice. She's an artist herself, and even though she doesn't think she's very good or anything, it's still something that's fun for her so she does it. Her interest in fashion from an early age led her to ask for a sewing machine for her eighth birthday; she got it, and she's been sewing clothes ever since. And even though this isn't necessarily always considered an art form, Lilah also loves to write. She's very creative, her mind always exploring and bursting with ideas, things to paint, story lines to write, dresses to sew. She's innovative and experimental, but not just for the sake of being so – her mind just generally comes up with weird stuff anyway, and she's young and she's not famous so it's not like she has anything to risk, right? Now might as well be the best time for her to do experimentation anyway, because that'll help her when she's older.
cautious ! Lilah can't feel pain. She has an extremely rare condition called congential analgesia. Her nerves - pain receptors, to be exact - didn't form quite right when she was in the womb. She can feel things, just not pain. Which means she could put her hand on a scalding hot pan and have absolutely no idea. She could sit down in a field, right on top of a shard of glass and have no clue it was poking hard into her skin. She could be passing a kidney stone and be clueless. Her appendix could rupture and she'd have no idea. As children, we learn so much about what we're allowed to do based on pain. You touch the top of a hot stove when you're four and don't do it again because you know it'll hurt. Lilah's case is different, obviously, because to her, touching the top of the hot stove is just...touching something. There was nothing wrong with that in her little four year old mind, so her family had to drill into her that stoves were bad, that jumping from the tree branches or swing set could hurt her legs, that even harmless wrestling with her brother could easily go wrong. She constantly checks her body for injuries or swollenness or bleeding. She has to see Madame Pompfrey every week, just for a general checkup. She could have a raging ear infection and have no clue, which could lead to deafness or a number of other awful things. It's gotten easier to deal with – for both her and her family – as she's gotten older, but she's still scared. She tries not to show it. Deep down she's terrified her own carelessness will end up getting her really sick. Lilah also prefers to keep this on the down low – only her best friends know about her condition.
flirty ! Lilah likes boys. ...Lilah likes boys a lot. Lilah thinks boys are cute and handsome and nice to talk to, so she will. She's a bit of a natural flirt, so sometimes she flirts without really even knowing about it - her way of speaking naturally has a bit of a playful banter to it- but other times she flirts just to flirt because she's interested, and that normally works out pretty well. She doesn't really have any commitment problems and she'd have no problem with dating boys for an extended period of time, but if it's not working out, she's not going to stay in the relationship just so see how long they can last. It can get a bit difficult sometimes for her when she likes boys but she doesn't like them quite enough to want to go out with them, but sometimes they ask and she says yes anyway, but that's just the way Lilah is. That's not how it is all the time, though; sometimes Lilah puts on her determined face [probably only after much encouragement from her girlfriends] and says no. She's a hopeless romantic in every possible meaning of the word, but right now, she's definitely not looking for love. She doesn't think the word love is something you can just throw out there after dating for a week, and she'd probably never say it in a relationship unless she knew for sure she loved him. The funny thing about Lilah is that she's so very sweet, but she has a bit of a thing for, um, “bad boys”. Not that they're the only kind of guy she crushes on, but she finds them particularly endearing. Not that she'd ever have a chance with any one of them, but she definitely has her crushes.
calm ! She's really not a hyper human being. Sure, she has her moments, but she doesn't bounce around attacking people with hugs and smiles and rainbows and butterflies and cakes and nauseatingly overwhelming happiness every chance she gets. ...Okay, maybe her close friends every now and then, but certainly not complete strangers! She's more of an internal person, really – ha, as if that actually made sense. How should I put this? Lilah....Lilah doesn't run around excitedly, freaking out about news that one of her girlfriends finally got together with this cute boy she's been swooning over for months. I mean, yeah, she'll be really very excited, but this doesn't necessarily go on display in a loud, obnoxious fashion. She's very expressive with her face, and she's sincere with her words, so there's really no need for a happy explosion all the time like you might think. She's completely content with just sitting around quietly, she loves to read, she draws and she writes and she doesn't always have to be talking. She'd laidback, you see. She's pretty much up for anything.

History: Brogan Avery Jackson (April 14, 1917) Melanie Ava Turner-Jackson (July 18, 1928 - September 3, 1967) Elizabeth Eleanor Jackson (December 1, 1958) Jonah Turner Jackson (November 19, 1959) Lilah Marie Jackson (June 30, 1962)
him ! Brogan Avery Jackson was born into a family that was well off - but only just recently. His father started a business selling yachts, and by the time Brogan was born, it was quite a success. The family became acquainted with quite a few upper-class members of society, which got them in to a few parties every year, and Brogan was exposed to the lavish lifestyle of the rich. At a young age, Brogan knew that this was the sort of life he wanted to maintain for himself. Being the youngest, he knew the chances of him being charged with carrying on the family business were slim, with four brothers before him, so he pursued a career in the sciences, something he'd always been passionate about. He attended a small private boys' school in Scotland, made excellent grades and was eventually admitted to King's College London at age sixteen, where he got a his bachelors degree in chemistry. He went on to study microbial biochemistry at the University of Bristol, and got his PhD a week before his 26th birthday. He worked with a number of pharmaceutical companies and was a leading chairman in the British Science Association by the time he was 30, and shortly after, he was invited to join the Royal Society as a fellow. He took up a position as a Professor at Imperial College London, and at age 56, he became the Rector of the College.
her ! Melanie Ava Turner was the only child of Sir Henry David Turner III, the British Ambassador to the United States. His wife, Alexandria, had tragically died when Melanie was just two years old of cancer, so wherever he went, he had to take Melanie with him. By the time she was ten she'd seen six continents, she'd only ever stepped foot in a school once, and she spoke four languages. She was a very special girl indeed, rather beloved by her father's co-workers, incredibly independent and very easy to manage. Although she was tutored all her life, she mainstreamed at age eighteen and attended the Royal Imperial College, where she studied pre-med. She eventually became a Medical Doctor, specializing in pediatrics, and used her skills in countries such as Kenya, Ethiopia and Sudan, where there was scare quality medical care. She was also a surgeon at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. At age 39 she contracted the Marburg virus while in Uganda, and passed shortly thereafter.
them ! Melanie and Brogan met when Melanie was in her fourth year of University. He was teaching one of her classes, and she was interested in Brogan immediately; he was, however, rather determined that he not get in a relationship with a student. He found himself intrigued by her, though, after a few after-school encounters that brought them a bit closer than he originally intended (more emotionally than physically), so as soon as she completed her final exam and brought it up to his desk for grading, he quietly asked whether or not she would like to go on a date with him the next night. She declined, because it would be in her best interests to study for her other exams, but requested the date be on the weekend when school was out. He blushed, ashamed he hadn't realized she had other classes to study for, but obviously accepted her offer. From then on out, they were inseparable. After two years of dating, Brogan went to Melanie's father and asked for her hand. He asked Melanie shortly thereafter, and she accepted, and the two were married on a snowy day in December 1952.
babies ! The next few years for the couple were stressful and busy, but good, nonetheless; they continued moving up through London's upper crust society because of all the connections Brogan was making at the school and the various foundations, societies and charities he was getting involved in, while Melanie worked toward getting her medical degree. They both had long hours, on top of social engagements, which didn't leave a lot of time for personal time but they made the best of it. Eventually, after they got more accustomed to their life together, and Melanie got her MD, they decided they wanted to start a family. Elizabeth Jackson was brought into the world in late 1958, Jonah Jackson a while later in November 1959, and Lilah Jackson in summer of 1961. They were a happy family, no doubt. They spent a lot of time traveling - Paris, Cairo, Johannesburg, Frankfurt, to name a few cities. The couple built a big house outside of London to settle down in, a much better alternative to their inner city apartment they'd been occupying before.
lilah ! Melanie, naturally, had a feeling there was something wrong with Lilah from the beginning. Brogan typically laughed it off, saying she was just a trooper, whenever she'd hit her head and not wail. But then when she was teething, it was uncomfortable for her so she'd gnaw on her hands so much they'd bleed. After a series of tests, it was evident Lilah had congenital analgesia, a rare disease that made her insensitive to pain. Her nerves that received signals of pain never developed properly, so, as you can imagine, she grew up incredibly sheltered. Her mother only took on a few patients so she could spend as much time with Lilah as possible, and when Melanie wasn't around, they had hired a certified nurse to be her nanny. When Melanie died, Lilah's part-time nanny became her full-time nanny. Her grandparents visited often, to check in, and to give the nanny Rosie a bit of a break, to be sure everything was okay. Taking care of Lilah got easier as she got older; she learned to carry around a little mirror, so she could be sure she didn't have something in her eye. She always knew to check for bruises and bumps and lumps. She took a lot of vitamins and minerals to keep sicknesses away, and she never stepped foot in the kitchen until she was fourteen, but that was to get Jonah out of there (although it is important to note that they had a kitchen staff). She was never really a normal kid; her dad felt uncomfortable sending her to school, so he brought in a tutor for her when she was four. Honestly, her best friends were her tutor and Rosie, the nanny - and her siblings, of course. She became friends with a few of her dad's co-workers' and friends' kids, but not a lot of them were her age, and she could never play with them so that took the fun out of everything. Honestly though? When she was little, she didn't really notice she didn't have any friends. She still wouldn't say she was a loner when she was little, either. She was always perfectly content.
hogwarts ! The day Lilah got her letter to Hogwarts was literally the best day of her life. Literally. Her siblings had gotten theirs, but for some reason she always doubted that she was a witch. Everyone was always making a fuss about how she was different, and different in a bad way... she thought because she couldn't feel things like her big sister and brother, she wouldn't be able to do magic like them, either. She was so excited about being a witch, she jumped around the living room for about three minutes until Rosie got a hold of her shoulders and asked her to stop because she might hurt herself. The happiest moment of her life, however, turned into one of the saddest moments of her life rather quickly because her father said she wasn't going. Which was an unwise choice of his indeed, because at that moment an antique vase sitting behind his chair in his office shattered into pieces. He stood by it for a rather long time, up until the middle of August, when he'd finally had enough of Lilah's stomping around, crying, and disobedience. He arranged a meeting with Dumbledore, informed him of the circumstances surrounding Lilah's medical condition, and Dumbledore assured him that regular check-ups with Madame Pomfrey would be possible. On top of that, of course, as they always had, Jonah and Lizzie would keep track of her to be sure she didn't get herself into trouble. They'd been doing that since she was a baby, though, so it wasn't going to be anything new.
life ! Getting used to being at a school wasn't as hard as she thought it was going to be, honestly. She was legitimately terrified at the idea of constant interaction with all those people, but turns out she was just being paranoid. She fit in quite well and made friends with ease - she could probably thank her father for that, what with all the parties he brought the kids to. She does have a tendency to get a bit homesick sometimes, but having Jonah and Lizzie around helps, and of course she always owls her father. Right now she's just focusing on school and...well, like any other fifteen year old girl, boys, and mostly just getting through Hogwarts relatively unscathed. ...Might be hard considering she can't feel pain, but a girl can try, can't she?
