I'm just splendid! I want to play in the snow tonight, I think. Just looking out the window at it gets me all excited. How are you?

That's good to hear! Haha, it does look great outside, I have to agree. I don't even remember the last time I played in snow, wow, you've got me feeling nostalgic now. I used to love making snow forts, they were the best.
I'm doing good! Just wondering Can't believe it's already almost Holidays, seems like we were just starting the year yesterday, you know? And now everyone's already talking about Yu holiday plans and all that stuff, crazy.

Don't remember the last time you played in snow?! Simon Thorp, that is positively unacceptable. Come play out in it with me tonight! It'll be lovely.
I know. It's nuts, how time flies so quickly! I'm excited about the break, though. Going home and seeing my grandparents and pets and other friends will be nice. I guess I don't really have any plans other than that - some people are talking about going to warm and tropical places. That'd be fun, but it wouldn't really feel too Christmas-y without the snow and the fireplace and stuff. Do you have any big holiday plans?

Hey, come on now, everyone just kinda stopped at some point, minus the odd halfhearted snowball fight here or there. The good years are behind us, Tink :P But that's actually super depressing, so alright, I'll play in the snow with you tonight, deal.
Oh cool, well that does sound really nice! Didn't get to see much of my parents and sisters on Family Fright Fest so it'll be great to go home for a bit. I don't really have much plans other than that, ha, but I agree, as much as I could use a bit of sunny weather, it'd be too weird on Christmas.

I shall never grow up! Ah, I'm just kidding. But I really, firmly believe that silly, childish things like playing in the snow are good for the soul.
Tropical settings would be so weird on Christmas! I can't even imagine. Does your family have any fun traditions?

Haha! Off to live in Neverland, are we? Nah, I think that's probably true, about it being good for the soul and all that. Wouldn't want to be one of those guys that take themselves way too seriously and act all stiff and boring.
Definitely. But hmmm, not really, I mean nothing unusual. We're pretty average, ha, put out our stockings at night, the girls still leave cookies for Santa, we open presents together in the morning and have a nice breakfast, then usually go to my aunt's, or people come over to our house, and then turkey dinner. What about you?

Oh, I wish. Now I want to watch it! That sounds splendid right now. And no. Nobody should ever take themselves too seriously. And it makes me sad when people do.
Nothing too strange with us, either. Well. Haha. I guess it is sort of strange. All of my family comes and visits at my house. Everyone from both my mom and my dad's side. I don't know why we started that. I think one year my parents invited both of their families over, and then after they died, the grandparents decided to keep the tradition going. It's really quite funny for me, watching everyone interact - my mom's side is all purebloods, so they're always confused at the things my dad's side does, the non-magic ones. And you can tell the older ones are just itching to get out their wands and use them. My grandma and nana and aunts stay in the kitchen all day and drink their wine and cook and gossip, and my grandpa and papa and uncles just talk about sports and beer and strange manly things. And all the cousins - young and old - we all just play games all day. Card games, board games, hide and seek, snowball fights. It's crazy, but it's so much fun. I think you'd appreciate the insanity of it. About thirty cousins all together, so insanity is actually kind-of an understatement. We do turkey, too. One time they tried lamb, but it just wasn't enough to feed all of us. Oh, and the first day I get back for break, me and my grandpa and grandma go and chop down a Christmas tree. We make an epic hunt out of it. And then we go home and decorate it and listen to Bing Crosby all night long, with the fireplace going. ...I'm sorry for ranting. I'm very enthusiastic about Christmas.

It is a pretty great movie. And yeah, exactly, it just seems like they're wasting their time, or missing out on so much, you know?
That's so cool though. Wow. All of it. And haha, don't apologize, Christmas is a good thing to be enthusiastic about! It sounds like you've got a pretty large family, when you put them all together at least. I've always thought that's so cool, like the big family reunions or holiday stuff? I mean, I've got extended family too but even when we're all together there's usually not much of us, and we usually do Mom's and Dad's sides separate, which seems even sillier now that I know your family manages it and half of them are witches and wizards and the other half are muggles. My family's all muggles, except well, me of course. And I guess Gill too, but he's not really fa - I mean, it's kinda complicated there, and it's not like we grew up spending Christmas together or anything.

Hahaha. Haha. Hah. I still think it's completely absurd that you and Gill are related. Just... what? It happens, I guess. Oh, but I love having such a big family. Really, it's great. I guess for some people big families might not be great if you've got a lot of lousy people in your family but most of my family is pretty amazing, save for a few cousins here or there - but they've all got their hearts in the right place.

You're not the only one, believe me. I mean, it's not like we're actually, biologically related, so I guess that could explain some of it, ha, but... still weird. I'm not even used to it, to be honest. He's alright, though, just a bit out there. And yeah, no I think it's great too! I didn't mean to sound like I didn't, I think it's really cool that you've got a big family, I wish I had the same kinda thing. But yeah, I guess at the end of the day, you just have to love them. Mine are pretty alright too, ha. Sisters can be a bit lousy sometimes but that's sisters for you. They've got their hearts in the right places too.

It's entirely understandable that you're not used to it, though. I doubt you'll ever be used to it! I feel being pressured into referring to someone as your cousin simply because it's the social norm of the family structure isn't fair at all. It's a legal title, sure, but I doubt you two have the implied cousinly relationship most people associate with the term. And childhood memories are an integral part of forming that sort of relationship and bond. I think you're doomed to have an awkward "he's-my-cousin-but-not-really" relationship for the rest of your life. I've always wished I could have siblings. Do you think that's odd? I don't know very many others without siblings, so I can't make a proper comparison. I wonder if I would think about what it's like to be a single child if I had siblings... do you ever do that?
