It wasn't a chance encounter that we met, by all calcuations it was totally probable that we'd meet each other. Same house and year, and those are just the basics. I met him in our second year, and we immediately had this connection. No I can't exactly explain it, but I trust him. This isn't logical if you know me at all, but eventually as our friendship expanded I learned a secret about him. In return? I shared with him mine. He's the only person now living who I've told, and so he's really important to me. We knew the others' dirty little secret, and if we had to we'd take it to our graves. I like him because he isn't one layered, there's so much more about him than what you first see. Although I'm a judger, he doesn't judge me. It's...different from anything I've ever had.

It feels like I've know Jake for aaaaages. Honestly, though, I think I've known him since my very first year? Whatever. Anyways, we started off as just being casual friends. You kind of can't not be friends with Jake, see. He's just this really nice guy, quiet and we don't really end up in the same space together so I guess you could say we've never really gotten a chance to be that close? Of course, and then we both ended up on the Quidditch team and I guess you could say that brought us a lot closer. Kinda hard not to, you know? And then I suddenly decided that I wanted to try dating him. Okay, so I had alternative reasons at first, as well as that. But anyway. In the end he asked me out! I'm not quite sure how that happened, either he guessed or he always wanted to, not sure but whatever it is I'm glad it happened. He makes me happy, and we really...understand each other. In more ways than one, what with my knowing a bit of sign language and all.

Did someone bite him in the rear or what? Seriously, and he thinks I’m the tense one in this relationship. Mostly I just kind of stay away from him since he’s always such a downer. All I ever hear are good things about him, how he’s so nice and can communicate really well and it’s like he just knows you even if you’ve never spoken before and that he’s really sweet to his sister and so on and so forth. I, apparently, am an exception to the Edwards’ hospitality. Oh how I wish it weren’t so! I’m a bit interested in seeing this perfect side of Mr. Edwards. The fact that he won’t show it to me almost makes me want to try and be his best friend. Just so I can see what all the hype is about. Really, he doesn’t look so terribly special to me. But, whatever.

"I admit a Gryffindor's hardly worth second glances, as typical as that may sound, but there's something about Edwards, even I have to admit, that draws you in. It could be his ridiculously blue eyes...or the fact that he's not afraid of - figuratively - speaking his mind. He's determined and so damnably stubborn. It's the Gryffindor in him, I tell you. He draws you out. He makes you talk, he makes you dance and he keeps you on your toes. The boy sure knows his parlor tricks. And fine. He's attractive and I'll be damned if I admit it to his face. What can I say? He's my little bro, I'd do anything for him. Of course, we get on each other's nerves every once in a while, we are siblings after all, but it's been way better since we got out of the house. Now that dad's not constantly ragging on him and I'm not forced to put up with him either, we kind of lean on each other for support when we need it. We've always been pretty close, even when we were little. I always felt like I had to defend him, take care of him because he was deaf. I can see myself still doing it even now, though he gets really annoyed with me when he notices what I'm doing. He hates it when people think he can't do things on his own, especially me, so I've backed off in the last few years. It's harder to hang out with him now, because he's so much more social than I am, way more outgoing, so I kind of faded into the shadows and let him live his life. It sucks, but it's good that he has friends at least, and isn't treated like an outcast or something. I miss him a lot though when we're not hanging out. I'll have to start pestering him again.

I don't think you'd believe me if I told you, just how Jake and I first met. Well, that, I suppose, is a bit easier to explain. We met in the library, and bonded over muggle literature. The rest of the story gets much more complicated, and I don't feel like explaining it to someone who would not understand. All you need to know is that I feel safe around him, and I'm not about to give that up anytime soon... at least, as long as he'll have me around, anyway.
