So I don't know if I posted something like this before, but since I've been playing Regulus I've gotten big into theorizing about his life, as some of you have probably realized. So you already know about how I figured Reg would have gotten into being a Death Eater at such a young age. He tried to date someone the family didn't approve of, disgraced the name and nearly got himself kicked out of the family and only got back on his families good side by joining up with the Death Eaters as his parents (specifically his father) had always hoped he would.
Also if you've been reading the note thread I have going with Indigo you some more of my theorizing that he was really forced into being something he wasn't. For example the over decoration of his room with Slytherin memorabilia and a collage of articles about Voldemort, I just don't see Regulus being that completely obsessed which is why I think his father compiled the collage for him and also had a large hand in decorating his youngest sons room, and Regulus goes along wit it because all he wants is to make his father proud.
Plus there's the whole fact that I've been playing Reg's guilt for Sirius' dissent. Sirius' middle name is Orion, so from birth it shows that connection Orion Black was trying to make with his son so the more Sirius pulled away the more pressure was put on Reg. It was bad enough to have one son become an embarrassment, but both would be horrendous. So in away both Orion and to some extent Regulus himself felt it was Reg's job to redeem his immediately family and alleviate them of the shame of having Sirius disowned.
Then there's also the curious fact that Orion Black dies the same year as Regulus. Orion was only 50 at the time which is young for a muggle, let alone a wizard who should have been expected to like much longer. So I thought that it seemed likely that he kill himself out of guilt for his sons death. After all it's believed that Regulus was killed for deserting the Death Eaters, and Orion Black would feel responsible for forcing his son into the Death Eaters and effectively causing him to be killed at the tender age of 18.
Another theory I've been working on recently, that I've also started playing up, is that Regulus had a plan to overthrow the Dark Lord and that in all likelihood the Dark Lord knew it. I know it seems strange that Voldemort would allow someone who wasn't truly loyal to him stay in his ranks (or even stay alive) but Sirius says that he doubted Regulus was important enough to have the Dark Lord kill him personally, yet in his note Regulus signs using only his initials expecting the Dark Lord to recognize who he is. Not only that, but the entire note has an heir of arrogance to it. "It was I who discovered your secret" as if the Dark Lord would have thought Reg capable of coming to such a conclusion. And I'm wondering if perhaps Regulus even made an attempt on the Dark Lord's life since he ends with "I face my death in the hopes that when you meet your match you will be mortal once more" so he did know that the Dark Lord was "immortal" either because the dark lord told him so, or because he himself tried unsuccessfully to assassinate him.
((I'm not so sure about this but it kinda fits I think))
Of course after trying to kill the Dark Lord I would think reg would have to abandon the Death Eaters...which could possibly make sense because then Regulus is gone so he goes to the Blacks to take Kreacher as payment for Reg's disloyalty. Kreacher escapes and reports what happens to Regulus who is in hiding, but still in touch with Kreacher since he'd rely on the elf for money and food. So when Kreacher tells Reg what happened Regulus knows exactly what the locket was because he has been studying on ways to become immortal and finds out about horcruxes.
So yea, those were just some things on my mind that I felt like sharing.
