ABOUT THE CHARACTER Name: Narcisa Black Age: 15 Gender: Female Year: Fifth year Celebrity: Scarlett Johansson
Canon or Original? Canon
Facial Properties: Ever since she was little, people have admired Narcissa Black’s eyes. Their color, which varies according to her mood, is something that makes Narcissa stand out. From blue to slate, it is not difficult to determine when she is in a good mood. People have learned to stay away from her when her eyes are a stormy gray. Though they are one of her most notable traits, they’re not the only thing that has made Narcissa be classified as an aristocrat. Her long, blonde hair, her pink mouth with its full lips and charming smile, her chin…it’s all thanks to a long line of honorable Blacks, and because of that, when you look at her, you know she is a pureblood. At fifteen though, her eyes still have an innocent quality about them that really tell on her experience on life. It is obvious that she hasn’t had to work or toil for what she wants. They give her away as the mimed rich girl she is.
Physique: Tall and slim. Her shoulders are always squared up with rightful pride and her long legs were made for a dancer. “You’ve got what it takes, Narcissa.” How many times has she heard that? What they don’t know is how she slouches when she’s sitting in the common room, how she drags her feet when she’s going in for a meeting with her father, how her small face mars in concentration and frustration when she doesn’t get that potion right and that annoying tic she’s got of pulling on her ear when she feels uncomfortable…Small details that would drive her mother crazy and that are shown by her on a daily basis. “Ice princess.” Didn’t Sirius call her that once—no, many times? Well, it’s not true.
Her ‘fair skin’ has one tattoo, two horrible scars and three moles. The tattoo was made just recently, a lame attempt at rebellion that went by unnoticed in her house. She’s kept the half moon as a reminder that she can do whatever she wants simply because at home nobody is paying attention. And if they do, it’s just a fleeting, superficial glance. The scars are a different story, considering they weren’t self-imposed. One is in her lower back and it was done to her when she was twelve years old. She had sneaked into her father’s study in spite of his serious warnings not to, and had been caught. Her punishment? Dripping boiling candle wax in her back for three hours. The second scar, Narcissa isn’t sure where it came from. Her mother tells her it’s been there since she was two, and she probably got it from one of her runs in the rose garden, but Narcissa isn’t so sure about that after she experienced the personal punishment her dad inflicted on her.
Personality: The Blacks are a wealthy family. Every wizard and witch knows that. So it’s natural for someone like Narcissa, who was born with everything she wanted on the tip of her fingers, to be just a little bit spoiled. Narcissa is used to wealth and glamour, so that is what she reflects. She can be your stereotypical rich girl, but there are also times when she can surprise you. You wouldn’t really call her humble, or even nice, because she can ice you out in less than a minute, but like everyone else, like every human, she has her moments. Like, for example, that one time in third year when there was this Hufflepuff girl crying in the Astronomy Tower because she had just broken her glasses, Narcissa had fixed them for her. Of course, she had left without speaking a word at all, but hey, she’d done the good deed, hadn’t she? These moments are very far in-between, but they do come, which is the whole point. When she is not having these moments, Narcissa is icy, vicious and vain.
As a child, it was ingrained in her that she was superior. Pure blood always wins out in the end. That’s her theory, and she sticks to it no matter what. That’s what gives her the right to feel and be superior, so she doesn’t let anyone contradict it. Her whole life and attitude is centered on the fact that no one will be as good as her. That’s what makes her easy to hate and difficult to forget. As a Slytherin, Narcissa knows very well when to use this to her advantage. The hate people feel for her sometimes can be manipulated into something that will work for her, even if the person who’s being manipulated doesn’t notice it. She knows when and where to strike. Having this innate sense for other people’s weaknesses makes her a difficult opponent. She may not know the other person at all, but she will find the way to read into their expressions what will hurt them the most, and don’t doubt she will use it against him or her. She won’t stop until her enemy is down on his or her knees.
But as easy as it is for her to hurt, it’s not that difficult for another person to chip her in the smallest way. Narcissa’s all time weakness has always been her personality. As strong as it may make her seem at times, it really takes so little to affect her. It can be a comment in the middle of a verbal argument, it can be a jab at her line, it can be everything or nothing at all. No, she won’t necessarily break down and cry; she will fight back viciously, not measuring her words or her actions. When she is in a frenzy, you know she’s been hurt. She slashes out without previous thought and that ends up backfiring on her. Most of the time she gives herself away, which makes her all the more furious. And when Narcissa Black is mad, you better watch out. She’s unstoppable until she has managed to calm down. She will duel anyone or everyone, sometimes using forbidden spells and playing dirty.
Thus, her relationships are either forever or don’t last through the hour. With her volatile temperament, sometimes she’s too much to swallow, and only the real people get through her tantrums. Even her friends sometimes have to take a break from her stormy self. She gives off the impression of being the kind of girl who doesn’t care what anyone says about her and doesn’t give a damn about rules and breaking them, or about the people she hurts and calls her friends, but deep down, she does. She cares for every single thing that goes around her. She may be sending all to hell one moment, and the next she’ll be happy. If bipolar’s the word, then so be it. When she wants things her way, that’s the way it has to be.
Romantically speaking, Narcissa is a contradiction in itself. Her vicious character makes people assume she will be dominant in the relationship, but it’s not so. When she’s dating, Narcissa likes to be treated as if she was made of glass. She’s all in for the expensive dinner dates and the being taken care of. Feeling protected is somewhat she looks for and something that was taught to her in her early years. After all, that’s how a proper lady should behave. And we all know how much Narcissa loves being proper.
As time passes though, Narcissa every day starts to see in herself the beauty for years her mother claimed she owned. At only fifteen, she is a self-assured girl, confident in herself and her skills. She manipulates a subtle seduction that doesn't have anything to do with the physical, but with the mind. A girl who has always focused on the psyche of other people and cultivated her own, she has found the joys of befuddling others, and now she sees her newly discovered beauty as a mean to her goals. She rallies all of her charms and not so indifferent flaws, underneath the standard and clichéd term for 'beauty'.

History: Born in the year 1955, Narcissa is currently only fifteen years old, but…what fifteen years those have been. Born to Cygnus and Druella Rosier Black, Narcissa didn’t know the meaning of the word ‘no’ until she was ten years old. Her childhood was a golden one, as many say. A lineage as old as the Black’s always brought immediate respect, so Narcissa nor her sisters Andromeda and Bellatrix ever had any trouble. Her father was a busy man, but her mother always managed to make up for it, being doting and always there. Sure, that necessarily wasn't a good thing, considering that's where most of Narcissa's ugly traits came from, but at least she only had one parental figure missing and not both of them.
When she was only two, something happened to Narcissa that left an ugly scar, the only reminder she has of the incident today. Her mother tells her she probably fell in the rose garden, but something about that doesn't seem right to the teenager. Whatever it was that happened, was pretty bad, because her back left shoulder blade aches every so often. When she mentioned this to her mother, the nervous flutter Druella was sent into convinced Narcissa more than ever that something had gone on that her family wasn't telling her.
After that, her childhood went by without any major incidents. She started showing signs of magic around the age of five (a crystal vase exploded when she started yelling at Bellatrix). Of course the occassionaly sibling squabble was never lacking, considering Narcissa's explosive temperament, but not anything that wasn't patched up with a simple Reparo or soothing words. Usually, she was always the one to start the arguments, and wouldn't back off until she was sure she was the winner. She never got punished for being the fight starter, because the word no didn't start existing on her vocabulary until later. When she was ten and was curiously exploring her estate, she ran into a door that wouldn't open with a simple unlocking charm.
Dedicating herself to find out what was behind that door, it was long before it was discovered that it was her father's study and that it was strictly 'Off Limits'. Which meant no entering. Which, translated in Narcissa language, meant finding the way to get in there. And she did. But the consequences were not what she imagined them to be. She had always had her daddy wrapped around her finger, but when she saw the rage in his eyes when he found her there, she knew that their relationship would never be the same. And it wasn't. Since then, after having her own father punish her so cruelly, Narcissa doesn't trust her family. One, because nobody made anything to stop him and two, because after that, she made her best to separate herself from them.
So coming to Hogwarts was one of the best things that could have happened to her. It was a year after 'the incident', and Narcissa wanted to forget all about the tense atmosphere at home. Throwing herself into her studies seemed like the appropriate thing to do at that time. She discovered her love for Potions and Astronomy and dedicated herself at being one of the best students in that subject. As much as she loved those two subjects, she soon found out that her skills in Transfiguration were lacking, and deemed the subject below her for her to actually pay any attention to it. She was selective with her friends, and soon she found herself surrounded by only purebloods and the top of Slytherin. That was how she came to know Lucius Malfoy. One of the most promising prospects to her.
