"I really won't be!" he insisted, shaking his head, and didn't stop to think about what Isaac could possibly mean by brilliant at everything else, since the only things he was actually good at were spell-making and drawing, neither of which Isaac had ever witnessed, but he decided not to comment on it, and instead vehemently denied the offer of the rock. Looking up when he reached down, Stefan's breath caught a little in his throat at the touch on his hand, and he froze on the spot, holding his breath.
Touching touching touching contact touching hands.
Lyle was the exception to the rule. Had been the exception to the rule, he quickly corrected himself. Stefan didn't touch other boys. It just didn't happen. Actually, he didn't touch people in general. He wasn't a touchy-feely person and this? It made him go on full alert because he hadn't actually touched another boy's hand since Lyle and no, okay, not thinking about him, not now. Too worried about the fact that Isaac had held onto his hand, he barely even registered the flick of their wrists and the way the rock skimmed out of their hands and across the water, bouncing a little before sinking down.
He flicked his eyes up to his and met his own in a stare that he quickly dropped, dropping his hand down to his lap and swallowing, shifting as he regained his composure. "That was mostly you doing it,
" he said instead, trying to pretend what had happened was totally normal. " And I'm fine with that. I'm a great spectator." [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Isaac could feel Stefan's entire body stiffen as he put his hand over the other boy's to help him throw the rock. Although he wasn't entirely sure why, Isaac felt that it wasn't a good sign- not like one of those girls who went stiff when he was touching them because of excitement and anticipation. No, more like someone who stiffened up because he didn't like Isaac touching him. Well, that would change soon enough. Once he had let go, it was almost like Stefan was still trying to process that Isaac had touched him without warning, but what he said next made Isaac chuckle lightly. "Oh, that wasn't all me- you definitely helped."
He looked at Stefan and smiled slightly before sitting back down next to him on the boulder. Something about sharing this spot with another person made Isaac wonder what exactly he was doing. I'm just trying to get Stefan to trust me so that I can use him. That was the best conclusion he could come up with, and it worked well enough for him. Trying to continue this notion, Isaac changed speeds and spoke quietly. "I know you probably don't want to talk about it and that's fine. But I just wanted to tell you that if you do want to talk about Lyle, I'm all ears."
He was really hoping that talking about his ex-boyfriend, even if for just a minute, wouldn't ruin the fun they were having...

"If I helped it was by not yanking my hand back," Stefan said lightly, shaking his head and looking out to the water, which was still rippling a little from the pebbles. Looking up a little when Isaac moved to sit back down next to him, Stefan smiled back and shifted slightly, trying not to be nervous about this. They were just sitting. It wasn't like Isaac wanted to hurt him; they were just out here having some bit of fun that he hadn't had in so long. He let out a breath and reached up to tighten his scarf around his neck against the wind that had picked up, then glanced at the other boy when he spoke.
The fact that he brought up Lyle made him blink at him in blatant surprise. There was a topic he didn't think would be breached at all tonight, and yet here he was, offering to talk about his ex-boyfriend. To say that it threw him off guard would be an understatement. "Oh,
" he blurted out, closing his mouth and staring at him for a moment, feeling his cheeks heat up a little. " Um..." What could he say? To someone who didn't know them. The way they were together. To someone who didn't know both sides of the story, or what had happened. It was like starting with a clean slate and that was like a breath of fresh air. Stefan smiled a little tightly and shook his head. " No, I'm okay. That's over now." He glanced over at him again and shrugged, giving him a small smile. " But thank you." [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Isaac looked at Stefan- really looked at him for probably the first time and noticed that he sounded different when talking about his ex-boyfriend. He didn't sound as bitter or angry as Isaac would have thought he would. He sounded like he really meant it when he said things were over between them, and that made Isaac want to grin. He smiled and nudged Stefan's arm in a friendly way, careful not to nudge him too hard to the point where he would fall off of the boulder. Looking away, he replied softly, "I'm glad you're doing okay. I was worried about you when I heard about the two of you."
"But enough with that talk. Let's start heading back to the Great Hall, yeah?" He stood up and laughed, rubbing his flat stomach and stretching his arms out above his head. "I am starving!" He added, upon hearing his stomach make a loud gurgling sound. He held out his hand to Stefan, offering to help him up off the boulder and smiled.

Stefan swayed a little to the side at the nudge, and he glanced over at him again, watching his smile and it made him feel like maybe it was okay. Isaac wasn't pressing the issue, which was something he was grateful for. Even though he did need to talk about it sometimes, need to vent and rant and cry, he wouldn't have felt comfortable doing so in front of this boy he was only just getting to know. He definitely didn't want to spill his heart out to him or tell him all the details about everything. So he was glad for the small bout of comfort he offered, and left it at. And even though he couldn't exactly say he was doing okay, he wasn't going to correct him, and instead nodded a little, lips pressed together.
"Yeah, okay," he chuckled a little, looking up at where Isaac rubbed his hands over his stomach, and laughed again at the noise it made. He reached up to tighten the strap of his bag at his shoulder before raising his eyebrows at the hand offered to him, and, after berating himself for looking too much into it again, took it and pulled himself to his feet. "Thanks,
" he said softly, smiling back and watching him for a moment before starting to walk back. " I hope they have those strawberry parfaits tonight," he commented, smiling to himself a little. " They're my favourite." [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Thankful that Stefan had accepted his hand, Isaac smiled to himself and turned to follow the smaller boy in the direction of the Great Hall. "I'm not much for strawberries usually, but those things are delicious. Maybe it's just the way the house elves make them here that make me a fan." He walked side by side with Stefan, secretly amused at how much taller he was than the boy next to him. "Honestly, I love those pumpkin things... What are they called again? Oh, right- pumpkin pasties!" He concluded, snapping his fingers as he remembered the name of his favorite dessert. Just thinking about the delicious food in the castle was making Isaac's mouth salivate and his stomach gurgled a little more viciously.

"How can you not like strawberries?" Stefan gaped at him a little, shaking his head as they walked back to the Great Hall. "I'm not that into pumpkin,
" he said, glancing at him a little amused, though, that he moved his hands a lot when he got excited about something. How expressive he was, actually. There was a reason why people said people were like onions and you had to peel back the layers to find out who they really were. Isaac certainly wasn't what he appeared to be, and Stefan liked it. They reached the Great Hall eventually, as the throng of students moved in from around the castle for supper, and Stefan turned to his new friend, smiling a little and licking his lips, reaching up to rub the back of his neck kind of awkwardly. " Well... I'll see you around, I guess." [/blockquote][/blockquote]

"You ask me how I can not like strawberries and then you proceed to say you're not that into pumpkin..." Isaac shook his head playfully, giving Stefan a look out of the corner of his eye. "I guess that just goes to show how two very different people can still get along nicely, huh?" Turning to Stefan with his trademark smirk, Isaac noticed the other boy was looking at him a little oddly. Must not be used to this side of me yet, Isaac thought. In fact, I'm not even used to this side of me...
When Stefan turned to bid him farewell, Isaac grimly looked at the boy and nodded. He hadn't expected to actually have fun without... well, what he usually did for fun, tonight. He had sought out Stefan Capper hoping to manipulate him into shagging using his raw emotions and anger against his now ex-boyfriend. But, Isaac still had his eye on the prize and he wouldn't forget what the goal of all this was- a nice, long shag and then he would drop him. Quickly and smoothly. No strings or feelings attached. Instead of voicing his thoughts, Isaac offered a small, somewhat timid, smile and replied, "Thanks for tonight, Stefan. It was fun. Let's do it again sometime?" And then he turned and walked into the Great Hall to his table, watching the younger Ravenclaw out of the corner of his eye until he left.

It wouldn't stop striking him how wrong one could be about a person upon first meeting. Maybe Isaac's whole really overbearingly flirty demeanor, bordering on stalkerish, was just an appearance. Just a very small part of him he liked to play with sometimes. Because this guy? Stefan liked this guy. He could see himself being friends with this guy. Who smiled at him like that and thanked him for spending time together?
He smiled back. "Sure," he agreed softly, nodding before he turned away from the other boy, weaving between the people rushing to the food already lavishly placed upon the four house tables and quickly found his crowd of blue, ducking his face and smiling to himself before joining Imogen for dinner tonight, taking a seat and glancing over to the Slytherin table curiously for a while then turning to the food. Because he really was starving.
[/blockquote][/blockquote] THE END.
